Kevin Kolb on trading block? (1 Viewer)

Sal Pal was on Mike and Mike and reports that a possible destination is Cleveland.

Cleveland front Office likes Kolb, considering one of the suits drafted Kolb when he was in Philly.

Can't wait to see where this goes.

Geez, if true Kolb would go to the future of the franchise to traded out of town in a matter of a few weeks. How could the Eagles go all offseason proclaiming this guy is the future and then just drop him like a bad habit in such a short time frame. Seems pretty impulsive if it all goes down like that.

I was waiting how long it would take for the Kolb Trade Rumors to start.

The Eagles drafted Kafka this offseason and have been lauding him to a certain degree. Perhaps moving Kolb is the fair thing to do for Kolb, like trading McNabb into a 'good' situation.

At this point, I can see the Eagles riding Vick, while Kafka matures (and they fix that OLine) and god only knows what future signings/drafts bring to this position for the Eagles.

Vick at age 30, buys the Eagles another 3 year window at minimum to find the next future QB.

If these reports are true, this qb issue in Philly sure is one helluva roller coaster ride. I don't think I can recall when a head coach ever spoke with such conviction one day that a player was his guy (Kolb), only to the next day, completely bail on that player and go with another (Vick). Andy Reid is looking a bit wishy washy in his decision making regarding this qb issue of his.

If they're going to embrace Vick this much after one and a half good games and some situational play, they should go all the way. Put up a wall of fame of superstars they've run out of town on a whim. Tell the world how the only thing missing in their offense all these years was an inaccurate but mobile quarterback with a winning record. Change the team logo to an Eagle carrying a poodle in its talons. Let Lurie (

) and Reid keep telling you that they got rid of Owens, after he risked his career to play hurt in the Superbowl, because they believe in character, but then embrace ex cons if they can have a good game and a half against middle of the road competition that didn't gameplan for Vick. I like Philly as a town, I liked Iverson and the Phillies and I used to enjoy watching the Eagles. But this franchise is just getting worse and worse.

I remember when they were still debating what to do with Donovan that Kolb to Cleveland was a popular rumour. I'll believe it when I see it.

I was just thinking last night that the Eagles should sell high on Vick, thus ending the whole damn QB issue!!! I guess that sounds more like FF thinking than NFL thinking but it sounds like a better idea than trying to trade Kolb, at least it does to me.....

Sal Pal has some pretty good sources inside the Eagles organization. He's had stories before that I thought were BS that ultimately were true. This might have legs. If so, this organization is a joke. Trade away my favorite player in McNabb to a division rival because you had me believe that Kolb was the future. Wonderful. We could have kept Donovan for another 3 years if this was the friggin plan.

perhaps Kolb has shown something to them in this injury they dont like...

Kafka is no where near ready to step in if Kolb got traded and vick got hurt, right?

This seems too high risk for this organization.

Just seems so out of character for Andy. Howie Roseman I'm not so sure about. Still reeks of upper management involvement. Andy usually has well thought out plans and is very meticulous. To completely discard the entire offseason planning after 1 great game is very impulsive, imo.

No doubt. This does have Howie's finger prints all over it. I think he's paving the way to move Andy out of town. Either Andy submits to his will or he's gone.

This is not happening. Not with Kolb's salary being 12 million or something this year.

I just can't believe that they gave him all of what 12 minutes and then decided he wasn't the future? Seems like a pretty knee jerk reaction and very un-Reid like.

Vick is a decent QB but a very poor fit for that offense IMO. Let's see how he does against teams besides the Lions.

He did look terrible all pre-season. I imagine if training camp was ugly as well, its better to just cut your losses.

I hate when people say things like this. They've seen much more than 12 minutes of him. Just because we as fans have only seen him play a few quarters, doesn't mean that's all the team has seen. They see him every day. I'm not saying whether I believe the rumor or not. But, if it's true, there's more to it than the brief time he saw against GB.

So did Michael Vick, and we saw how that translated to the regular season...

I doubt they really are, but if they are, I could understand it. $12 million guaranteed this season to a guy who's not really that young, yet has only played one quality NFL game (against a horrible team)? Good luck finding a buyer.

This is true, but this logic also makes the Eagles and Reid look that much worse. You've seen him for three years and proclaimed him the QB of the future after seeing him every day. Now you change your mind? This is a big reason why the Eagles will never win a Super Bowl any time soon.

Makes sense to me and no better time to do than now.

Kolb would probably embrace it. I'm sure he has to be pretty upset right now to prepare all off season and get pulled after a half. I even saw his family sitting in a luxury suite in game 1. You think he bought that for the year so his family could come watch him play? That's got to be pretty bitter.

Kolb is only signed this year and next. Easier to deal him now than before he enters the last year of his deal.

Also, and I think this is key, with Locker, Mallett and Luck coming out it's a strong QB class. Better to make a deal with QB needy team like Cleveland now than waiting until the off season and allowing them a chance to acquire a guy like Luck. After this off season 3 QB needy teams are going to be taken out of the market.

I know for a fact that CLE and PHI discussed a trade for Kolb this offseason, so there's definitely interest with CLE. I really doubt Philly is looking to trade him now unless we're talking about a 1st and 2nd round pick.

Yeah, this move would pretty much spell the end of the Reid era methinks.
No chance
I didn't really understand that post originally, but it could mean the end of Reid if he still believes strongly in Kolb and Roseman/Banner are completely overruling him, as others have suggested in this thread. If Reid doesn't have the power to keep the franchise QB he really wants, then his time may be done.It does seem like a power struggle is a plausible explanation for what is going on here. Maybe Reid floated the story on Sunday that Kolb would start vs. the Jags to try to get ahead of it. Upper management didn't like that and called him out, leading to his wishy-washy comments on Monday. Now Vick is the starter. The only other thing I could think (which is in a similar territory) is that Reid is generally feeling a lot of heat from them and thinks that he has to have a winning season this year and does not have the time to let Kolb develop or he will be out of there. Though I would think that he would be confident enough that he could easily get another job, so he would just do what he thinks is best for the overall franchise this season.

Huh? That decision was purely medical. Why would he be bitter at the Eagles about it?

Did you think it was impulsive to (seemingly) change entire direction of the franchise based on 1 game in 2009? Besides, I don't think anything is being discarded. This is the NFL starting jobs have a tendency to change alot. Just 4 days ago, I was told by some on this board that, since Reid announced Kolb as the week 3 starter, this matter was closed. That clearly wasn't the case. This thing is fluid and if/when Vick struggles, Kolb will certainly get a shot.

I'm not sure why so many people find this to be an odd decision. The Eagles have 2 QBs. In the eyes of almost everyone, they overpaid both of them. They have shown great belief in both of them.

One is 26 and has essentially done nothing. The other is a 30 year old that's played 4 full NFL seasons and made the Pro Bowl in 3 of them (pretty impressive), won 39 of his 68 NFL starts, is playing out of his mind right now, and most impressively, made Jim Mora Jr. look like a decent NFL coach.

Assuming they really see something in Kolb (and I'm not sure why yet), then it makes sense to have a fluid QB situation right now.

If Vick lays an egg, you throw in Kolb and see what he's got. No harm done.

(Oh, and I, of course, say all this with the assumption that there's no way in hell the Eagles trade Kolb. Nobody's taking that contract. If for some reason they did, I'm sure they could find some other "young" QB who's never done anything)

Kolb no longer being the starting QB for the Eagles has nothing to do with anything medical.

Someone's head will roll. You trade your starting QB, in your own division yet, and come up with this. The only way the Eagle's hierarchy looks smart is if Kolb was there only as a buffer to get Vick through the public/media backlash, so he could be the starter. So your choice; they are either geniuses or idiots.

Why do you and other people think heads will roll and would not look smart by doing this? Trading your QB inside your own division may not be smart but did they not get a second pick for Mcnabb? Not lets' say they get a second round pick for Kolb and continue with Vick as the QB. At the end of the day they would have got two second round picks and still have a QB that is arguably every bit the QB as Mcnabb at this point in their careers. That does not seem dumb to me. Seems smarter than letting Vick and Kolb leave as free agents and hitching your wagons to an older QB while you get no draft pick compensation.

I don't think they really care how they look in all of this. I think they're doing this crazy thing where they make decisions based on what they think makes them a better football team. They've been doing that for a while. And, while they haven't won a SB, they've been one of the most successful franchises the last 10 years.

And what if Vick is better than McNabb over the next three years?

I don't know how I can stomach rooting for my team with him as QB.

McNabb knew the offense. He played in it for 10 years. Vick has one year of practice with it and the most success he's had is running around improvising. Do you really believe that Vick will be better than McNabb if McNabb was still here?

We have a former #1 overall pick that we didn't give anything up for and has been playing great. He is 2-3 years your than McNabb who we got a 2nd round pick for. The guy made idiotic decisions and he paid his time for it and has been given another chance. Get over it. When was Kolb ever good or prove anything?

Whay has he done to prove he is the future?I've never been high on Kolb, and quite frankly don't know why anyone is COMPLETELY sold on him being the future.

I was all for giving Vick a second chance. He paid his dues and all that. What I'm worried about is him reverting to Superstar Vick from Atlanta where he runs up a storm but ultimately goes no where. McNabb is the better QB of all 3 of them NOW and would have been for the next few years in this offense. We finally get him some weapons and then ship him out. Eagles make me sick. Eagle fans make sick that they will vilify McNabb but embrace Vick after 1.5 games for doing the same things.

A Push? :goodposting: The guy just threw for 420 yards with Joey Galloway and Santana Moss as his WR's and about the same O-line in Washington. Really? A Push?

We must have different views of success.

Is this situation that different than the Matt Leinart/Kurt Warner scenario?

In '06 the Cards, desperately in need of a young QB for the future, drafted and gave a lot of money to an unproven Leinart. They did already have 35 year old Warner, who hadn't mattered at all in about 5 years, but used to be great. The situation was fluid until week 7 of '07, when Warner took the job from Leinart, for good.

Leinart got more games that Kolb has gotten so far, but I'm sure Kolb will get plenty of opportunites. Leinart essentially got a rookie season plus 2 games to prove himself. Warner got back in the mix a week after Leinart threw for 299 yards in a win over the, then very good, Seahawks.

We don't look back at that situation and think of how wrong it was for the Cardinals to not to give Leinart more of a chance. Most probably think Leinart got too many chances and applaud the Cardinals for eventually playing the best player and trying to win some games.

Like Leinart, Kolb will have plenty of chances to prove himself.

:goodposting: Super Bowl = Success

Everything else is window dressing. We haven't had Success in 50 years.
