Keyshawn rumors (1 Viewer)

Keyshawn still draws interest

Keyshawn Johnson might have to put his television career on hold. Word is there might be a pretty good market for him. The Eagles, Chargers, Giants and Titans are rumored to be among the teams that are at least thinking about pursuing Johnson.

Good move if the Chargers grab him.
This would make too much sense. Plus, they are too cheap.

 if the Titans get him - and this from someone calling him Meshawn

I wanted the Eagles to grab him a year ago, and would be happy to have him this year. However, if the story about McNabb being pissed at Reid is true, the last thing we want is another ego that might ruffle Donnie Mac's feathers.

Chargers wont grab him. PLus he cant wear #19 here
Sniff, why don't you think so?
#1 - AJ does want any problems in that locker room. This move doesnt fit his MO. #2 - they have two long, tall young receivers in VJax and M.Floyd, plus they just drafted C.Davis and have EParker and dont forget Gates and LT are passing options #1 & #2. Really I just dont see the need that everyone else does for the position now, especially after the draft.

All that being said, IF Key comes to SD at a reduced rate, AJ might change his thinking

Can't see the Eagles signing him. They already have more WRs then they carry, and if they brought him in it would mean as a #3. That or Curtis would be #3, equally unlikely. Just as unlikely is Hank Baskett being the number 4and Avant being number 5.

I think he'd be a good fit but roster wise I'm not sure how it would work. They have Vjax, Parker, Floyd, Davis, Naanee and Osgood as their current wr's. Osgood is a good special teamer so he's probably safe and they just drafted Naanee/Davis so it would come down to cutting Parker or Floyd which I don't think will happen.

1 - I don't think he's been a locker room problem since leaving TB. The only problem he had in DAL was when he wanted a new contract. This being his last contract I doubt that situation would repeat itself in SD.2 - Parker just wasn't very good last year as much as I expected him to play better. We may have already seen his ceiling and if that's his ceiling he'll have trouble holding onto the #3 WR role. Davis is a rookie and Floyd was only a situational WR last season. He only had 15 catches. If Key came to SD I really think he'd lead the WR's in receptions and maybe even TD's. Jackson will get more yards and have a much higher ypc but Key could certainly contribute in a big way.

I said this in another thread, and I'll say it here - Good God please no.Why on Earth would they want another big, slow wideout? They are full of those. What they need is speed. Not exactly Keyshawn's forte....

Seems like he would provide a pretty good outlet for VY...Plus Fisher should be able to put a thumb on him (please don't even bring up PacMan...the lesson has been learned...). :(

Maybe you are suffering from what-have-you-done-for-me-lately-itis. I don't remember anybody complaining about Parker at all last year until that crappy playoff game. I think he had a pretty decent year, but you might be right about that being as good as he is going to get.

Tough call. Not sure which is better starting set.......but my gut says KJ + VJ > EP + VJ.

Not a big fan of Parker anymore since that playoff lost. Would lose speed by cutting Parker, but the new rookie could add the speed element.

I will admit leading up to last year I was a big fan and had higher expectations than most. While I have no idea what others projected for him I really thought he'd eclipse 900 yards and at least get a few TD(Yes, I know he wasn't part of the big goaline package WR's..... but being the starter for an entire season you'd think he could score a TD from outside the 10 yard line). He fell well short of my expectations. You can't really point to any one game during the regular season where he was just awful(just the playoff game!) but it's more the fact he had a perfect opportunity to excel and didn't. I don't think he ever gets as good an opportunity as he had last season again and I honestly don't expect him to exceed 500 yards/3 TD's with SD now that Vincent Jackson looks set to emerge and after drafting Davis.

link? not on blogger

would be a great fit for the Titans considering how many young guys they have, he'd be a good mentor for those guys plus a very nice target for VY.

he could also sign with NE for their 9 WR, 1 TE, 1 QB set

He would be an excellant addition to teach the vikings young wrs
Exactly what I thought also. With MRob gone, KJ could mentor the younger WRs on how to catch the damn ball. Miami, Hou., Wash., and Atl. seem like they could use a player of his caliber. Overall, I don't think there is a big market for KJ.

Reggie Brown 1, Curtis 2, Keyshawn in the slot sounds good to me.... better then Greg Lewis in the slot!

I am afraid I have to disagree, but not strongly.Although I woud like speed, I think the Packers could use a receiver with good hands as a red zone and third down target. Someone Favre could develop a quick trust-based relationship that the WR is going to be where he is supposed to be and going to do his best to bring the ball in (and not leave Brett hung out to dry). So either Wes Welker (speed) or Keshawn (tall with hands) wouldhave beed fine. Are the other WRs really that "big"?How just getting rid of TEs running routes since none can catch and have Keshawn line up there...I DEFINATELY think their needs to be a 3rd receiving threat that is totally absent right now.

Chargers not interested in WR Johnson

UNION-TRIBUNE FROM STAFF AND NEWS REPORTS

May 3, 2007

Receiver Keyshawn Johnson wants to play for a contender at this point in his career, and his agent expressed Johnson's interest in playing for the Chargers in a phone call to the team yesterday, sources said.

Sources also said the Chargers told agent Jerome Stanley they are not interested in Johnson.

Johnson was released Monday by the Carolina Panthers. With 70 catches for 815 yards last season, the 34-year-old former No. 1 overall draft pick is seemingly still a capable receiver. But the Chargers already have multiple receivers of similar capabilities.

Also, while Johnson has seemingly mellowed over time, his penchant for being the center of attention would not seem to fit the type of players A.J. Smith has assembled over the past four years as general manager.

Neither Stanley nor Smith would comment.

If he wants to win something, maybe the Steelers would be a good spot. Keyshawn brings a lot of toughness and is a great run-blocker. I think he could find a role on that team - Ward is obviously a great WR, and Holmes came on late, but apart from those tow, there isn't great talent on at WR.

IIRC the Steelers have virtually no cap left...

I totally agree with Z-dog in terms of Keyshawn's blocking. He is one of the best and an asset to any team that breaks it to the outside often.

I was thinking that the Titans would be a good place for him to go. Although, if he wants to play for a contender then this would be out.

Depends what he wants to contend for. I think the Titans could be a playoff contender, but a championship contender seems to be a bit out of reach.

His run blocking ability is why I really hope the Titans sign him. He would be a nice complement to their young WRs and their desire to feature the run, and he would be great blocking on those broken plays when Vince takes off and runs.

Yeah, the Packers could really use someone like Keyshawn to....stretch the field? Wouldn't be terrible if they signed him for an affordable price, but if Keyshawn ate up much of the cap room, it would be wasted money.

Giants please.<-----Eli owner
Hmm I don’t know if young Eli will be able to handle Shockey in his face, Plax in one ear, and Keyshawn in the other all screaming for the ‘damn ball’
Eh, he'd be good for a year. If he does end up in New York, I know I'll be rooting for the Giants to take a WR in the draft next April.ESPN 2006:"And the Panthers select......Dwayne Jarret! What do ya think, Keyshawn?"Keyshawn: :lmao:  :lmao: :lmao: ESPN 2007:"And the Giants select.....Mario Manningham! What do ya think, Keyshawn?"Keyshawn:

I really doubt the Redskins sign him. That said, he'd be interesting for a year there as their tallest WR is Lloyd at around 6'. Aside from Cooley, they have no big receiving targets. Plus, Gibbs comes from the same school that Parcells did in terms of loving WR's who can block, which is a strength for him.

Still, I don't see that happening.

Another factor is if you ask Key and his agent how many years Key has left I'm SURE he'd say 2-3 years. That's standard for all players that are past their prime. Brad Johnson said before last season he thought he had 203 more years left for crying out loud. If Key went to a team like TEN he could probably be their leading receiver the next two years. I think he want's the chance at another SB but if he can't find the right fit with a SB contender then he'll probably look at an opportunity for playing time and production.
