Keyshawn to the Panthers? (1 Viewer)

Free-agent wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson said twice Wednesday afternoon he'd like to play for the Carolina Panthers. The bigger question might be if the Panthers are interested in Johnson. The team has a long-standing policy of not commenting on free-agent interest and a history of not pursuing players who have had trouble. Maybe it's wishful thinking on his part, but Johnson told the Fort Worth (Texas) Star Telegram he had spoken with the Panthers. On Sirius NFL Radio an hour later, Johnson said he had not talked to any teams.

Key is trying to drum up interest. He's been heard talking about Philly, NE, Carolina, and Seattle. Oh, and he would not be opposed to returning to Dallas.

He's representing himself. So of course he is trying to stir up some buzz in the media.

At his age he would like to play for any FRIGGEN team at this stage of his career!

If he would learn to quit crying for the ball and start helping the youngsters develop he still could be an asset somewhere.

But isn't that a big if?

Panthers dont need him.

Colbert will get the job done , did you read a few weeks ago that Colbert had a foot injury ( bone chips i think ) all season last year

and the Panther doctor could not understand how he did to actually play in games .

Panthers | Team not interested in K. Johnson

Steve Reed, of the Gaston Gazette, reports the Carolina Panthers have no plans to sign free agent WR Keyshawn Johnson (Cowboys). On Sirius NFL Radio, Johnson listed a number of teams he would like to play for, including the Panthers. Panthers general manager Marty Hurney said, "We like our receivers, and we've always said that."

Key is just a role player now who wants to be paid elite money. The Panthers won`t pay an aging WR big money.

Role player? If the role is possession, run blocking WR, sure.He wants to play for a contender. Chiefs should be high on his list.

Key's ego outweighs his actualy value these days. He is a role player now. Maybe he can start for some teams (Philly, Miami, KC) but he wouldn't be their #1 guy.

Only in meshawn's dream world.

He wants too much and too much guaranteed. I'd say there's a 50/50 chance he either retires or signs for less later this summer when somebody's starting WR gets hurt in training camp.

Colbert will hold down the the WR4 role quite nicely.

Just heard him said that he thinks he's worth a lot more than $2.5M a year. Not in any world I live in.

Carter and Prohel (assuming he returns for one more year)The Panthers don't need a WR. What they need is a tackle, center, linebacker, and safety.

I am sure he'll want a nice contract, but I think Keyshawn might be willing to play 2nd fiddle to a star like Steve Smith. Carolina is probably the best fit for Johnson, but I had my doubts whether he'd be a "John Fox" kind of guy. From all the reports I am reading, I tend to believe that may be the case. I can't think any team would be happy entering the year with Keary Colbert as a starting WR.

I know NE really needs guys right now, but I sure hope they hold out long enough with this Key situation that they dont give him more than the $2.5mil he would have gotten this year on his previous contract. That is FAR too much money to pay a WR with sbsolutely zero speed. Nice role player....for somewhere UNDER $2mil/yr.
