Very funny.

Has some hilarious lines and scenes, but as a whole, cannot compare to older classics like Caddyshack, Animal House or The Holy Grail, or newer classics like 40-Year Old Virgin, Dumb and Dumber or Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
People found Forgetting Sarah Marshall funny?
Humor is always subjective, but I laugh my ### off every time I watch that, and it's very quotable, which is always the mark of a great comedy.

I really like this movie the first time I saw it. At the time I would have said it was one of the best. However, it isn't a movie I watch when I see it in the guide now. It isn't one of those comedies that I can watch over and over again and still enjoy almost as much as the first viewing, like a Caddyshack or Animal House. It just hasn't held up over time as well as other classic comedies.
I think I am the opposite as you. I didn't love Kingpin the first time I saw it, but got a lot more out of the movie the more and more I watched it.

IMO a big part of what makes a movie hold up over time is the ability to introduce new and young people to the movie now and they still love it. I have told a lot of people to watch this movie and just about everybody seems to love it. From my small sample size, Animal House and Caddyshack are pretty hit and miss when judging by this criteria.

Would you be willing to hold onto this until after the tournament?

Come on. What are we going to do with a rubber hand?

####. I was just about to watch Caddyshack for the first time in my life, and now I've got Kingpin on the brain.
Skip Caddyshack and watch Kingpin again.
Heresy.
I know. I watched Caddyshack for the first time about 5 years ago and didn't like it. I missed out on a lot of those movies of the era and haven't found very many of them funny while watching them for the first time in my 30s.

WTF?

I love this movie. Great one liners, but I also like the way they craft humor on top of itself to build a flowing comedic scene. The one that comes to mind the best is after he throws his hot coffee on his buddy. When they're in his apartment, the guy starts complaining about it being hot as you hear the tea kettle whistle. He takes a sip, burns his lip and says, "Now that's hot!" Then she walks in and he throws it on the guy again.

It's all very simple, but they do it so well.

This is Animal House for me. Sat through the whole thing

Love Caddyshack though. I mean, Rodney and Ted Knight come on!

Problem? If that doesn't float your boat, take that one out and put in Anchorman. That blows Kingpin out of the water as well.

I love how they revisit the whole disco inferno entrance at the end, but it falls flat.

Hilarious movie.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall was cute; I'll give you that.

Anchorman was pretty damn funny, but not as funny as Kingpin.

Roy Munson: "Yeah, well, he blessed you too. And I'll give you a clue what it is. It's round. It has three holes. And you stick your fingers into it."

Ishmael: "You leave Rebecca out of this mister."

Always used that one when we went to bowling tournaments.

So hard to rank the comedies but I'd have to put Caddyshack at the top by itself. After that, there's a lot of really great ones that I'd lump Kingpin in with. In no particular order:

The Jerk

Airplane!

Animal House

The Blues Brothers

History of the World, pt1

Vacation

Monty Python's Holy Grail

Office Space

The Big Labowski

The Hangover

Ted

40 Year Old Virgin

Spinal Tap

Slapshot

Tommy Boy

Slapshot

Tommy Boy
Good list. I really appreciate you including the bolded ones.

For Mel Brooks representation, I probably would have gone with Blazing Saddles or Young Frankenstein over History of the World.

Don't get all the love for 40 Year Old Virgin. To me it was a typical modern comedy. In there with stuff like Wedding Crashers, Meet the Parents, 22 Jump Street, etc...

I agree with all the bolded.

Both are great movies (and part of my dvd collection) but I like History better than either of them.

Almost forgot about one of my all-time favorites:

Grumpy Old Men 1

Grumpy Old Men 2 (NSFW, language)

Agreed. Although 'hurtin for a squirtin' slays me every time.

All right, now check this out. You're throwing a lot of big words at me and because I don't understand them...I'm gonna take them as disrespect. Watch your mouth...and help me with the sale.

Today's forecast: dark and cloudy, with chance of drive-by.
