I was looking at that thing on nfl.com where you watch the games. I saw Kirk Morrison got a tackle or two early in the game. Ricky Brown didn't till later in the game. Did anyone actually see the game? I didn't get it, I got the Pitt vs Wash game. Was Morrison starting at MLB?
Not sure, but looking at the box score, it seems like Ricky Brown did pretty well 3 solos, 2 assists, and an INT.
returned the INT for a touchdown to boot
Huh? He did get over 40 yards, but he then got bodyslammed by Alex Smith well before the goal line.

I do not care if this was preseason or practice, if you give up 300 yards rushing in a game at the NFL level, you are in deep crap. That may be one of the most embarrassing performances we have put on in some time. Not knocking that Coffee has some talent, but please, 130 yards in a qt and a half and Robinson, that slow cow couldn't run that well against a good college team and he had almost 100 yards in a qt. Very sad and discouraging performance by our defense, not that my hopes are that high to begin with, but that was a real kick in the nuts.

49ers/Raiders Postgame (AP)

AP reports that Morrison had a sling in his arm. He started the game, but apparently left with the arm injury. Didn't see the game so have no idea exactly what happened. Hopefully someone who saw the game could add some more insight on this situation and injury.

Raider beat writers are reporting something is dislocated, and Morrison is out a few weeks.

Some confusion on elbow or shoulder.

Twitter:

bydavidwhiteKirk Morrison dislocated left elbow, out at least a few weeks.

JerrymcdWord from the locker room _ Morrison said he suffered dislocated left shoulder, will be out at least a couple of weeks.

PFT has this:
Morrison Dislocates Elbow

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on August 23, 2009 8:58 AM ET

Oakland's leading tackler for the last three seasons, linebacker Kirk Morrison, will likely miss the team's regular season opener after dislocating his elbow Saturday.

Initial reports say that Morrison will be out "at least several weeks," opening the way for Ricky Brown to start the season as the team's middle linebacker.

In one of the most surprising position battles in the league, Morrison was fighting off Brown to keep his job despite his productivity in recent years.

The Raiders didn't look any better without Morrison against the 49ers, at least defending the run.

49ers rookie Glenn Coffee ran wild, rushing for 100 yards on eight carries against the team's first-string defense. (Coffee added 29 more yards against backups; the 49ers rushed for 275 yards in all.)

Before we kick off our next series of "Raider hater" comments, we're happy to point out Oakland led 7-3 at halftime before the reserves took over. Now have it.

What a run defense disaster after he left.
So they did bad because Morrison was out? That has to tell them something.
No, they just continued to do bad. The D-line is the issue. For fantasy purposes, it's kind of tough, because Brown will be the MLB now, but there's no guarantee Brown keeps the job, and owners will have to draft without knowing who the MLB will be down the stretch. My thought is that Brown isn't good enough to hold off Morrison, and I think he takes the job back. Between his injury and the well-publicized job battle, Morrison might represent value, if he falls significantly.

Music to my ears!! The Morrison owner was talking trade before the injury. Now he has no leverage in the deal.

The question is how long Kirk will be out?

i probably won't protect morrison now. the position battle started to worry me, but i would probably have wound up keeping him until this. in my league, if people paid attention, he would go undrafted ater all this.

now i will probably keep farrior over him. morrison was 8th last year, farrior 17th (separated by 8 points) in my scoring system. a healthy dj williams will also help make this decision.

"several weeks" is the word. Sure there'll be an update tomorrow.

Just saw this on Roto:

Kirk Morrison-LB-Raiders Aug. 23 - 8:18 pm et

Raiders coach Tom Cable said MLB Kirk Morrison's elbow injury is a two-week deal.

Cable also added that Morrison was ahead of Ricky Brown in their battle for the starting middle linebacker job. Assuming Morrison gets back in time for the preseason finale, which Cable said he could, we expect Morrison to be the Week 1 starter.

Recovery time on elbow dislocations are dependent on whether there's an associated fracture or nerve injury and how soon strength and range of motion can be regained. I think Freddie Keiaho returned within a month from an elbow dislocation in 2007.

** Middle linebacker Kirk Morrison is expected to miss two weeks with a dislocated left elbow. That means he will play in the season opener, with an outside chance of playing the exhibition finale at Seattle.

Of greater note, Cable said Morrison was leading the starting competition with Ricky Brown even though it often seems Brown is making more plays.

Even if Brown loses out, he is still a strong candidate to start at strongside linebacker.

– Linebacker Kirk Morrison’s elbow dislocation was described by Cable as “a two-week deal.”

Morrison was injured during the first series of Saturday night’s 21-20 loss to the 49ers. Cable said Morrison would definitely miss the New Orleans game and possible the preseason finale in Seattle, but would be ready for Week 1.

He also said Morrison was leader to start at middle linebacker at the time of the injury, so it’s anybody’s guess how that will affect his competition with Ricky Brown. Brown remains a candidate to start on the strong side, although it seems likely most of his reps will now be in the middle with Morrison out.

Raiders sign Napoleon Harris.

Maybe this is an indication that Morrison's elbow is worse than advertised? Stay tuned.

Brown was making a lot of players against San Francisco. It's too bad the two couldn't battle it out all pre season.

Well, my attitude is: The problem with Kirk is the run. He makes plays in the passing game already. Brown showed he can blitz from the middle, but he didn't do diddly vs. the run. And I like Ricky.

Cable named Morrison starter at MLB with Brown named starter at SLB, according to David White's twitter.
Also from Rotoworld:Coach Tom Cable named Kirk Morrison the Raiders' starting middle linebacker following Monday's practice.

Ricky Brown won the SLB job, beating out Jon Alston. Morrison has averaged an outstanding 125 tackles per season as a four-year starter in Oakland. He's not a traditional run-stuffing "MIKE," but is a clear-cut LB1 in IDP leagues. Sep. 7 - 5:51 pm et

WOOHOO!

After all of this concern, Morrison's slow start, and being able to pick up guys like Durant, Tulloch, and Mike Peterson, I dropped Morrison...only to learn now that Brown might be done for the season and Morrison's MLB spot is secure. Now he's back to stud status and playing for another team in my league and all of this hubbub seems like it never happened

crap

pretty sure his MLB spot was secure before any injury to Brown.
You be wrong...http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...65770&st=50
Brown didn't appear to be a threat to Morrison in the middle. He was stealing nickel snaps over the past two weeks, but it looked like the job was Morrison's through 2009. Morrison is dealing with some kind of knee injury now, though, so we'll need to watch the injury reports this week.
Bump. Any word on Kirk's knee injury this week? I haven't heard anything since tuesday. Has he been practicing at all?
