Klop or Byrd (1 Viewer)

First I want to say that I was surprised (like many), that the Rams spent two early picks on the TE position in the draft. Looking back now , I think it was a smart maneuver as the team really needs to hit at that position through this draft, why not take two and double your odds that one of these players will be real good ?

That being said, I do not know enough about these two players to make a guess as to who is gonna win the camp battle to be the starting TE for the Rams. Would like to hear who others expect to win out between Klopfenstein and Byrd. Or do you think they will both be used in this offense Linehan brings in ? If you are drafting, would you take Klop over Byrd simply because he was drafted first ? Or is he simply the better player ?

From what I have read is that Klop would be more of an inside receiver, where as Byrd can stretch the field more. Seems to me that Linehan likes to do both when throwing to the TE.

I would be shocked if Byrd got beat out.
Why?
He is amazingly fast and agile (with very good hands) for such a big guy. I know much more about him than Klop, so maybe it comes down to blocking schemes and who does better there. But everything I have heard is that the Rams want to incorporate the TE more in the passing game, which leads me to believe that it will be Byrd who will come out ahead.

Ive never seen the "fast" that you describe Byrd as, but Ive only seen him a few times and seen his atrocious 40 time. Klopfenstein is very similar to a Chris Cooley-type TE-HB. He lacks some blocking skills, but is one of the fastest TEs in the draft(sub 4.6) and runs very crisp routes and has great hands.

Id be tremendously surprised if he was beaten out by Byrd.

I said he was fast for being such a big guy.

Regardless, if you ever saw a few of his catches in the OSU game two years back you would see the hands he has.

Sorry Bagger, but having seen both, Klop not only is faster, but has better hands (although he may not have the upside for the wildly athletic plays that Byrd made on occasion.

While I think Klop is the TE who gets the most FF points this year

1) thay may change going forward - Byrd may catch up

2) from what I have read from Linehan and the Rams camp reports, there will be several times where they run double TE sets, so I see both of them exceeding DD's current projections

Byrd reminds me alittle of Wiggins and Linehan liked Wiggins alot in his days in Minn. That being said I think Klop is the better player so I could see alot of Klop on the field and Byrd on the bench but when they are both in at the same time I could see Klop blocking and Byrd going out in pass patterns.

So in a couple of years who do you see either of these two being like? What teir will their talents land them in when it comes to fantasy value?

I know much more about him than Klop,
Pretty obvious based upon your assessments.
Please feel free to bring something to the table here.
Please feel free to search (use Klopfenstein instead of Klop).
After searching it seems that you have an opinion on Klopfenstein that differs from mine, but is based no more on anecdotal evidence than my opinion on Byrd is.

Again, feel free to bring something to this discussion.

Isn't all rookie TE information at this time anecdotal evidence? Klopfenstein was a force at TE for CU. He has that awkward looking lanky stride that makes him look slow until you realize he has just gobbled up 30-40 yds running down the sideline. His hands seem like they have glue on them, and he had made several one-handed recpetions, particularly in the red zone while using his body & other arm to shield off defenders. He's big, he's strong, and he finds the hole in zones exceptionally well. He relishes contact. I've seen both Byrd & Klopfenstein play - Klopfenstein more than Byrd, and Klopfenstein is the better all-around TE, and certainly he has better & surer hands. We'll see. You may be right about Byrd, but I have a feeling that if you are, we're going to see some 2 TE sets in STL - or see Klopfenstein in the slot some, because I think Klopfenstein is a bonafide NFL starter.

Of course it is, which is my point. I want to know more about Klop and this post is what I was looking for.I agree about the 2 TE sets in St Louis. Having both TEs in there with a 1 back set of Jackson and Holt and Bruce lined out wide, that is a lot of options for Bulger.

Should be real interesting.
