Konata Mumpfield, WR Rams (1 Viewer)

Hot Sauce Guy

Are we sleeping on the Rams WR3?

This dude seems to think so. Also Davante Adams thinks he’s special.

Everyone keeps asking who the next Puka is… maybe it would make sense for that to be the dude the same team drafted.

He didn’t have a topic, so now he does. Maybe this all fades into obscurity, but he looks like he belongs out there.

@MathBomb
Konata Mumpfield was drafted in round 7 with pick 242 in the 2025 draft class. He scored a 6.35 RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 1395 out of 3816 WR from 1987 to 2025.

The reports I’ve seen have suggested he plays better than he tested.

Which would also be Puka-like, iirc.
He looks like a slot only guy. Small, short, short arms, lack of deep speed.

Biggest positive on his profile is his freshman year at Akron. Kid balled out for a true freshman in any conference. Caught 7 for 67 and TD against Ohio State. 11/122/2 against Wetsern Michigan. He was a freshman All American and 1st team All MAC. Then he transferred to Pitt and it took him until his senior year to match the kind of production he had as a freshman. But that ability to step in right out of high school and play high quality division 1 college ball is impressive. Especially for a guy who wasn't able to rely on speed or strength to beat defenders.

What I’ve read is the program at Pitt was more responsible for his lack of production than any skills issue.

I looked and it sure wasn't a prolific passing attack so that very well could be the case.

Rams HC Sean McVay said WR Konata Mumpfield is “doing a heck of a job” in training camp.
The Rams selected Mumpfield in the seventh round of this year’s draft, and the former Pitt receiver already seems to be turning heads in training camp. McVay praised Mumpfield for being “smart and conscientious” on the field while making the most of the targets that have come his way. Mumpfield isn’t a lock to make the Rams’ 53-man roster, and is a part of a receiver room that is loaded up top with Puka Nacua, Davante Adams, and Tutu Atwell. While he’s unlikely to make much of an impact as a rookie, Mumpfield is a name to know for dynasty leaguers and could be worth a stash ahead of the Rams’ first preseason game against the Cowboys.
Drumbeat getting a little louder. 🤫

If Atwell is keeping this kid off the field then there likely isn’t much there there.
The word has been that he’s become a legit threat to become the WR3.

Understood, but when I see a report that says he “isn’t a lock to make the roster” it gives me serious pause. On the other hand, that same report says the WR room “is loaded up top” and lists Atwell as part of that loaded room, so it contradicts itself IMO and makes one wonder about the chops of the author.

That’s fair.

His draft price is essentially “I added him in 2 leagues for $0 bid”, and drsftdd we him with pick 34 of 35 in a startup.

At this point I was under the impression he was likely to make the roster. I’d be surprised if he didn’t.

If we're following the money, Tutu Atwell, fresh off a 2024 Season where he set new career-highs in both receptions and yards, and received a 1-year *fully guaranteed* $10M extension, isn't being displaced by a 7th-Rd Draft pick with a relatively weak profile. Jordan Whittington, by all reports, is having a great camp as well. Both he and Atwell have fairly clearly defined, unique roles in the offense, that no one is threatening at this time, from what I'm reading and hearing.

There are about a half-dozen WR besides the above four in camp, including KM. There's a for-real hardcore #'s game going on between the Rams' RB, WR and TE rooms, and competition for Roster spots is *tight* ... I can't imagine the Rams going into the Season with only 4 WR, so there's some kind of a chance he makes the Team, or the Practice Squad...or maybe he doesn't. Just doesn't strike me as anything special, and probably (IMHO) not special enough to displace the 4 vets in front of him.

Just my opinion (and I quit playing Dynasty, to concentrate on High-Stakes Redraft, after being addicted to it for almost 20 years), I think Sean McVay, like any good Coach, likes to drop nuggets like this to occupy the media's ***'Hey! Look over there'!*** attention away from the important Training Camp stuff going on with the Team.
