KR/PR Info or Insight? (1 Viewer)

Mike, In Chicago, Hester is set to handle the punts, but do you expect him to get a majority of the kickoff duties this year with Davis/Manning/Wolfe getting some as well? Last year's final returnerguys info had a 32/20/8 KO return split (Davis/Hester/others) and I don't see Hester getting KO returns in the preseason boxes so far.
IMO, they would be crazy not to. They should start every game/possesion with excellent field position due to the Hester factor.

HOUSTON

Rookie WR Jacoby Jones scored a punt return TD for the second week in a row... a 91 yarder against Dallas this week. He also caught a TD on offense.

The Chiefs signed Eddie Drummond today, which likely bumps Jeff Webb out of the slot.

On a side note, Jerome Mathis still was the primary returner used on kickoffs in last night's game.

They sign a return specialist on the downside of his career, after having gotten rid of Dante Hall, a return specialist on the downside of his career. Dante must have really rubbed Herm Edwards and Mike Priefer the wrong way.It probably also helped that Mike Priefer is son of Chuck Priefer, the special teams coordinator for the Lions during Drummond's glory years.

Where does that leave Mathis ?
Mathis is still fighting for a roster spot. Note: Jacoby Jones is only returning punts and Mathis is only returning kick offs. Mathis ability to make the squad has as much to do with Kubiak's thought of him as a WR. If they both make the squad you may see the split continue. Jacoby is lock to make the squad, but if there is no Mathis it is not clear if he will return kick-offs or not.

This is a great discussion and would like make sure I am following who is the KR for some of these teams. My draft was yesterday and our scoring gives lucrative points for return yards (2 pts for 10 yards) versus (1 pt for 10 receiving or rushing yards). Big upside for returners. As someone already mention to me, KR should be more valuable than PR.

So, who are the KR. Some of my research indicates Arrington (AR) and Cartwright (WA) are fighting for a roster spots. Hicks should be the guy in San Fran. Dante Hall should be the guy in STL.

I've already rostered Wade, Jacoby Jones and Tab Perry. I'm a little weak at RB (Bush, Caddy, Jordan, Foster). Have any of the RB I mention above been given the starting KR job? Are there any others?

Any advice on strategy for this league would be much apprciated as this is the first league with return points.

Ronnie's not actually doing kick returns, correct? I read somewhere that the coach backed off of that statement and said he just meant Ronnie would be returning kicks for that particular pre-season game.

Cam Cameron changes his story almost daily on this.Meanwhile:

Tampa Bay released Chad Owens.

NY Jets released Tim Dwight.

Jacksonville released Derrick Wimbush.

I was just thinking they upgraded from Hall to Drummond and got a draft pick in return. Shrewd move by KC imo. Drummond/Hall were nearly identical on KR last season(very average) and Drummond was better on PR. I'd guess they are likely paying him less too.

Any thoughts on where Dwight ends up?????I was thinking perhaps WAS if their WR corp doesn't get healthy, but does that offense need yet another slot receiver?

Correct me if im wrong, but I thought that Buffalo was not going to have Mcgee return kicks this year, seeing as the departure of Clements made Mcgee the clear-cut #1 CB, and therefore, invaluable to the Bills.

There was speculation to that effect earlier in the year, however he has been practicing on kickoffs and was returning them in preseason games up until his concussion last week.

EXREMELY HELPFUL THREAD :kicksrock:

1st year using KR/PR stats for DST. I know nothing about KR/PR, after finding this thread I am up to speed and ahead of the game!!!!!!!!!!!

Is there somewhere to get return man rankings? I would think you'd have something like that, Mike.
Agreed. I'd really appreciate a top 50 returners as well. I realize it may be more difficult to rank than a lot of other top-lists but just having all the returners in a ranking with the others would be convenient.

Sorry guys, I don't have any rankings for KR/PRs. I'll look into that for next preseason.

NEWS highlights

ATL - Allen Rossum has concussion; doubtful for this week

DET - Devale Ellis will miss the first 6 weeks while on the PUP list

PIT - Willie Reid struggling

When is the first returner guys? Projections?
Returnerguys will definitely start week 2 of the regular... possibly week 1."He did all right. He made fair catches when he should have. He was smart with his decisions."- HC Andy Reid regarding Jeremy Bloom
This is my first league with return yards. Is there a link to last year's returnerguys? I was hoping to see what I might have access to during the season. I have quite a few KR/PR players and I am struggling with how I will be selecting who will start.

Any thoughts on how to project return players in DD? I tend to try to do a conservative estimate based on KR or PR and incorporate that into the receiving yards in DD. Return projections would be nice. Any thought on this for next year?

I sure hope Welker is both PR/KR. In a league with 1 point for 20 return yards (punt or kick), I waited on WRs knowing that I could take Welker late. It's PPR too and Welker was the #15 (or so) WR in this scoring system. So, here's to the same or better production in NE.

I read somewhere that he received a better offer from Tampa, but turned it down for KC.

Hey Mike. Is there any point in which a final depth chart (of returners and starters in general) is released by the NFL teams? So many of the teams don't use their regular returners during the preseason, making it quite difficult to determine who is the return guy. In my league's format, Jones-Drew finished 5th (yes 5th) in scoring last year, but it has been looking like Pearlman and Northcutt will be bringing back kicks and punts respectively. His value now sinks to lower end RB2 if he doesn't return the kicks, but I don't know!

I could also love to get my hands on a final WR depth chart, because of those kick returners who end up being high up on the depth chart. Lance Moore (Saints) intrigues me right now, because he appears to be the return guy and has a chance at 4th WR or higher on that team. Any idea if he could be the #3 WR? Thanks!

Teams will have KR and PR listed on the depth chart on their official team webpage, although that may not always be who ends up being used on gameday. That's especially true with returners... since some are at the bottom of the depth chart at their respective offensive or defensive position, they may wind up being inactive on game day even though they are at the top of the KR/PR depth chart. Each week during the season, you can find info on FBG as follows:1. Returnerguys (typically on Wednesday) will have KR/PR player news and notes

2. Players in the News... updated each day thru Saturday

3. Breaking News on Sunday mornings, including list of Inactives

what % of KR's do we think Reggie Bush will take? Is he primary (or do the Saints still have the Beer Man?) or merely a secondary returner option...

Michael Lewis is gone. Lance Moore is their new Beverage Guy, assuming he makes the final roster as expected.

Whoa, is it true Jeremy Bloom got cut?
According to PFT:

Several readers have informed us that the players who appeared on the list, which has since been changed to this, were as follows:

RB Nate Ilaoa; FB Jason Davis; FB/LS Jeremy Cain; WR Jeremy Bloom; WR J.J. Outlaw; WR Michael Gasperson; WR Zac Collie; TE Lee Vickers; T Jonathan Palmer; C Jasper Harvey; G Jacob Hobbs; T Pat McCoy; DE Marques Murrell; DT Mauricio Lopez; DT Ian Scott; LB Akeem Jordan; LB Dedrick Roper; CB Dustin Fox; CB Nick Graham; S Marcus Paschal; S Erick Harris; and P Dirk Johnson.

We've separately learned that Bloom, a fifth-round draft pick who spent the 2006 season on IR, has indeed been cut (or at a minimum has been informed that he'll be cut).

I see people in this thread listing Burleson as Seattle's return guy. That may be true but Josh Wilson has returned practically all the kickoffs this preseason (13 to Burleson's 2) and he's done a pretty good job at it...

For IDP leagues that reward return yardage, he could be gold to grab now...

I just did, especially with McGee's concussion...

Mike Holmgren stated that he still anticipates Burleson will be the primary returner in the regular season. He also commented regarding Wilson, “I think there was a couple times where I think he should have taken it and he cut back. He got hit, and he is going to fumble the ball. You don’t see people when you do that. So he is going to learn that. He is young.”

CLEVELAND

Joshua Cribbs will handle punt returns in addition to kickoff returns this year. Rookie WR Syndric Steptoe was released.

PIT

Falcons dealt DB Allen Rossum to the Steelers for a late-round 2008 draft pick.

Per rotoworld and NFLN ticker.

SEATTLE

Acquired RB Alvin Pearman in a trade from Jacksonville. He'll probably backup Burleson on punt returns.

PHILADELPHIA

"Right now, unless something changes in the next 24 hours, we'll have Greg [Lewis] doing punts and [Correll Buckhalter] doing kicks. Jeremy, I think his first game he did a pretty good job, and after that, he just never really produced. Obviously if we were going to keep the sixth receiver and try to keep that guy active, we thought he'd have to be special as a return guy, especially if we were going to mess around with the roster on game day. Whether that changes for Jeremy later on, I don't know. . . . But right now, we didn't think he was productive enough to do that."

KANSAS CITY

Having added return specialist Eddie Drummond recently, two contenders for that role were released: CB Justin Phinisee and WR Ean Randolph

GREEN BAY

Released WR David Clowney and WR Shaun Bodiford

I know others have said otherwise, but I just can't see McGee being used as a KR now that he is being relied on heavily in the CB role. He's not big and is already hurt.

I have the guy on my roster, but his value plummets if he does not take kicks.

Anyone out there want to set my mind at ease?

See Mark Jones WR was cut, Mike who do you see taking over KR/PR duties in TB
Probably Phillip Buchanon on punts and Michael Pittman on kickoffs.
“It will be done by committee. We’re going to give Joey Galloway some looks. We think he’s rare at that. We think Phillip Buchanon has punt return ability. We have Ike Hilliard. We have three guys that can catch it, and that’s the decision at this time.”- HC Jon Gruden regarding punt returns“If we played today, it would be Ike Hilliard and Joey Galloway returning punts, and we’ll have Pittman along with Earnest Graham returning kickoffs and we would see Michael Clayton back there a little bit. We’ll see how things go.”- special teams coordinator Richard Bisaccia

Anyone have any thoughts about Allen Rossum and his new duties on his new team (Pitt)?

Will he be taking over some/all return (punt, kickoff) jobs?

Gotta believe that's the only reason Pitt traded for him...

TIA

Willie Reid ended on a positive note with the final preseason game, but overall has been disappointing on returns. Enter Rossum.

What could change in 24 hours? Perhaps re-signing safety J.R. Reed. He's probably not the same kickoff returner he was prior to his fence climbing accident, but he might suffice.
