I love that the subtitled talks about him being "lumped" in with other guys.
That being said, I'm 100% on board with Graham. Here's why:
Blount disappears from the state line of the TB-SF game in the 2Q with 4:23 left. He gets no carries during the 2 minute drill, Graham gets 1. Its impossible without going back and watching to see who the RB was.
3Q: Blount returns and catches a 29 yard pass. He is replaced by Graham the next play.
Between that last play we see Blount in and the end of the game the mentions in the stat line are as follows: Graham: 3, Lumpkin: 2. All of Lumpkin's touches came in the 4th quarter (after Graham has immediately filled in) when the score was 41-3.
Lumpkin has received a total of 4 carries in 3 years (excluding the one he was on IR), and caught a total of 10 passes (3 coming Week 4 this year).
While it's been a while since Graham has been impressive ('07-'08), he already was being used more this year than in years past. Consider this:
Total Touches (Rush+ Rec), Avg Touches/game, Total Games played
2009: 28; 2.15; 13
2010: 36; 3.6; 10
2011: 41; 8.2; 5
From those its clear to me that TB was making more of an effort to get Graham involved, and his use a 3rd down back can't be understated.
I suspect Lumpkin will get significantly more touches, but its no surprised to me that after Blount's final play the next carry was to Blount. Lumpkin's first 2 carries this season came in the 4th quarter when down 41-3. Yes, he'll be forced into time, but I see no reason to believe he'll suddenly be toting the rock a lot on first and second down.
