Kurt Warner - Torn Ligament (1 Viewer)

According to the Arizona Republic, the initial diagnosis of Kurt Warner's elbow injury is a torn ligament.

He's scheduled to undergo an MRI and the injury is to his non-throwing elbow, but the newspaper reports that if he returns it "certainly won't be next week." "It was just painful," Warner said. "I have no strength in there. I couldn't really move it, so there would have been no way to hold the football with my left hand." Backup Tim Rattay was picked off three times in the fourth quarter after coming in for Warner. Oct. 15 - 9:54 am et

Sounds serious to me. If he doesn't have much strength in his non-throwing hand he's going to be giving up bucket loads of fumbles and will probably get hurt since he won't be able to properly defend himself and/or cushion his falls when he gets hit.

Well, the Cardinals are screwed.

I guess it's time to determine if Rattay has value. He looked horrible, but he also wasn't prepared. Next week is definitely the better indicator.

I'd think he'd have some value because of his weapons, but there's probably much better options *cough*Testaverde*cough* at this point.

I am not sure how long he is out for, but Delhomme is out for the year because of the ligament in his elbow (albeit his throwing elbow). Delhomme's recovery time was 7-9 months. From Delhomme's updates:

"Oct 11 Delhomme will have season-ending ligament-replacement surgery on his elbow next week, leaving the Panthers without their leader on offense and scrambling to find another quarterback.

Advice: Delhomme left Bank of America Stadium Monday without speaking to reporters. His agent, Rick Smith, said the recovery time is seven to nine months. The Panthers are left in a precarious position, as Delhomme's backup, David Carr, is also banged up. "

Arizona has a game this week and then a BYE. Now I realize Delhomme is having ligament replacement, but it does not seem like Warner's recovery time is going to just be a couple of weeks. Maybe I am wrong...is there a doctor in the house that can elaborate on this???

Of course the MRI will tell us more.

How did he tear a ligament in his non-throwing arm? This guy is a total pansy.
He was going for a fumble and had his left arm stretched out to his left. A D lineman landed on his arm while Warner was still in the air and bent the elbow backwards. Total pansy.

I always thought Rattay was an OK backup and if Warner misses some time I think he would be an OK filler. Remember Testaverde just signed too but they set a game plan thinking he would be starting. Rattay just signed but the game plan was not for him to play.

From Yahoo's little "note" blurb next to Warner today - adding for the "relevant" portion at the end :lmao: :

Oct 15 Michael Silver, of Yahoo! Sports, reports Arizona Cardinals QB Kurt Warner (elbow) sent an e-mail to friends and family late Sunday, Oct. 14, stating that he had torn the ligaments in his left, non-throwing elbow. The injury could keep Warner out for an extended period of time. Warner is scheduled for an MRI Monday, Oct. 15. In the e-mail, Warner said he believed that through the power of prayer he would be miraculously healed before undergoing the exam.
I, for one, will not be part of the prayer circle, as I need roster space. Thankfully, Braylon had a big week to salvage my season.I'm actually considering Miss Cleo to back up Garcia now.

Can't help but feel bad for the guy. He made an improbable comeback and was poised to lead the team to a possible playoff berth this year.

At least we'll be spared Brenda Warner.

[AlSharpton]Brothers and Sisters,

We are gathered here today to ask the Lord to mend Kurt's arm.

We know, Lord, that you have turned water into wine.

Healed the sick.

Raised the dead.

Made Starr Jones skinny.

And we realize that this may be your toughest task yet.

But we ask you Lord to reattach the ligament to the bone.

To make a young man out of an old one.

And bring back hope to so many fantasy footballers.

In Jesus' name.

Amen

I'm surprised someone in your condition would be so critical of someone else's disability.

was just about to post that pic ...

Warner is less than durable by Girl Scout standards ... but not in this case.

If it is his non-throwing elbow what is the big deal? Just wrap it tight. Warner has to play with that injury.

I dont know how any pro football player can be a pansy. Someone gets hurt in this game, is a real injury, not because he got slapped by a girl and went home crying to Mama. You think he is such a pansy, you go run a draw play against the Vikes

Out of the Shotgun...Warner, back to throw, juggles for the laces...Warner, here comes the snap, swats it to Edge...Warner, breaks Grossman's season record...but seriously, how does this affect the rest of the team?

Oh brother  Most of us would crumple to the ground if we took one hit in an NFL game. Warner and most all NFL players have absorbed 100s of those hits.

Again folks, look at the picture posted and tell me how ANYONE other than Gumby could have come out of that with all pieces of their arm intact.

Or just cut it off and attach a prosthetic. I mean, my god--the NFC West title is at stake here.

Cards to sign Tim Hasselbeck

Kent Somers and Jason P. Skoda

The Arizona Republic

Oct. 14, 2007 11:03 PM

Even before Kurt Warner suffered an elbow injury Sunday, the Cardinals were expected to sign quarterback Tim Hasselbeck as a backup early this week.

Now, depending upon Warner's prognosis, the club could be in the market for another quarterback.

Tim Rattay is expected to get his first start for the Cardinals next week in Washington, and then the Cardinals have an off week.

Warner will undergo an MRI exam today, and the results could determine the team's interest in bringing in another quarterback.

After the game, Warner said he had a torn ligament but added that surgery had not been discussed.

"We'll see the extent of it and see what we can do as far as getting me back as soon as possible," he said.

I think Rattay has a chance to succeed .... he has been an effective starter in spot duty through out his career and had some decent games for Tampa last season. Most teams he has played for have been a mess TB in 06.. SF were horrible teams when he was the starter as well. Arizona has the most offensive talent and is probably the best team he has played with. Give him a couple weeks to work through the playbook and get by a couple tough defenses in Washington and Tampa Bay with the Bye week in between. He should get Boldin back and could be poised to have a nice second half of the season with a cupcake schedule : DET ,@CIN ,SF ,CLE ,@SEA ,@NO ,ATL ..Week 17STL

Good news for Warner

ESPN's John Clayton reports Kurt Warner (non-throwing elbow) is expected to miss one week.

It appears Tim Rattay, who threw three interceptions and no touchdowns Sunday against Carolina, will start at Washington in Week 7. Tim Hasselbeck will be signed to back up Rattay. Warner doesn't believe he'll miss substantial time, so owners should hang on in shallow leagues. He'll get a Week 8 bye to heal, then could start the following Sunday at Tampa. Oct. 15 - 2:56 pm et

Yaay! I get to play Warner in two weeks and take another 0 when he gets injured again...

Alot of different information. This just came out per KFFL:

Warner Expected to Miss One Week

ESPNews reports Arizona Cardinals QB Kurt Warner (elbow) is expected to miss one week with an elbow injury. Warner injured the elbow against the Carolina Panthers during Week 6.

Their bye is week 8, so out next week plus week 8 bye = back week 9 (hopefully).

I don't think that word means what you think it does.Rattay is garbage.

1 week? No way, done for the season likely if he has torn ligaments...every DL in the league will be running after that hurt elbow...he is done for the year IMO.

I would think as long as he is able to move the arm enough to secure the ball as he drops back he should be OK. Defenses will be "going after" his elbow? Why grab at his arm if you're trying to sack him? Would a defender really think as he's going in for a sack "I shouldn't wrap this guy up and drive him to the turf, I should just try and rip his non-throwing arm off?" I doubt it.

We dont know what the MRI showed yet , maybe it`s just a partial tear or not torn at all, just badly strained(typically, Cardinals MRI results aren’t disclosed to the local media until Tuesday at the earliest). .......i`m sure the swelling is going down and it`s doing better by the hour , hence the upgrade to missing less time than first thought....we will know soon enough.

Warner fears ligament damage, but eyes quick return

By PFW staff

Oct. 15, 2007

The QB intrigue just keeps on overflowing in the desert. One day after spraining his non-throwing elbow on the Cardinals’ eighth offensive play in their Week Six loss to the Panthers play, QB Kurt Warner said he thinks he might have sustained some ligament damage, but added that he doesn’t believe it’s bad enough to keep him out of the lineup for an extended period. Hoping that team medics could fit him with a protective brace for the elbow, Warner said Monday morning that he realistically had his sights set on Arizona’s Week Nine visit to Tampa Bay, pending results of an MRI later Monday (typically, Cardinals MRI results aren’t disclosed to the local media until Tuesday at the earliest). With Warner almost certainly ruled out of the Cardinals’ game this Sunday in Washington, Tim Rattay, who was thrown into the fire last Sunday just five days after signing a contract with the team, will likely be the starter under center against the Redskins.

The PFW spin

The MRI results will determine whether or not the Cardinals decide to scour the market for yet another quarterback. In any event, the team is expected to sign journeyman Tim Hasselbeck, who has played on four teams in six seasons, within the next 24 hours. In the short term at least, head coach Ken Whisenhunt and his staff will be concentrating on a streamlined game plan that will put Rattay in a better position to succeed than he was in last Sunday, when he struggled mightily — 12-of-24 completions for 159 yards, zero touchdowns and three interceptions — under admittedly tough circumstances. It will certainly help Rattay and the Cardinals' offense if WR Anquan Boldin is finally able to return this week from the hip injury that has now forced him to miss three games. It will also help if the Cardinals’ receivers can do a better job holding on to passes than they did against the Panthers. Two of Rattay’s three interceptions probably should have been caught, and as good as he has been lately, WR Larry Fitzgerald has to hang on to his catches after he makes them and avoid fumbles like the one he had vs. Carolina.

Our fantasy take

Don’t even think about going with Rattay as a fantasy option this Sunday. Not only is his knowledge of the Cardinals' offense still very limited at this stage, he will also be facing a vastly improved Redskins pass defense that has done a nice job the past two weeks slowing down the Lions’ and Packers’ frisky passing offenses.

I did the exact same thing when I played QB back in my younger days.Scrambled and tripped up from behind, extended my left (non throwing) arm as I came down and a diving defender dove into my elbow and hyperextended it. Tore a ligament and couldnt continue. Never did have surgery and played the next game with a tight wrap/sleeve/brace. As much as I tried on the sideline to be able to get back in (it was my non throwing arm afterall) it just wasnt possible. Maybe if I was Ronnie Lott I would have told them to just cut it off... but that wasnt going to help on the center exchange.
