LaDainian Tomlinson likely to be cut by March 5th (1 Viewer)

I have had this conversation with more than one 20+ years long NE fans... and ALL just about threw up in their mouths at the thought. One of them even said he would stop rooting for them if they signed Complainian. They really, REALLY hate the guy around here. ETA- my vote goes to Houston. if they paid guys like A.Green and C.Brown.... Why not Tomlinson?
:excited: Add me to your list of pukers. :X

NE fans hate a classy guy like Tomlinson, yet love Randy Moss. Gotta love #### like that. :lmao:

That aside, I have to question the sense of any team that makes LT2 a featured back next season. The guy has plenty of heart, but he simply doesn't have enough left to be anything more than a change-of-pace player. Sad to see a stud fall like this, but such is the life of an NFL RB.

not sold on Charles being an every down back all year long.......bring LT to KC please......at least for goaline, etc....

Put me down as one that sees him getting cut and then signing with a team that has a good chance at the Super Bowl, like NE.

Bring on RFA Pierre Thomas! He's got both the size and the receiving ability that would be perfect for the Chargers. IF Sproles is resigned, he would still be the perfect COP back.
Since the chargers were in the final 8 teams, they can't sign a free agent unless they lose one themselves. kind of new rule this year b/c of the bargaining agreement

This whole topic makes me sad. I know it's probably in both the team's and player's best interests to move on, but it will be really tough seeing LT on a different team next year.

For the Chargers, I think they'll target someone for the 2nd or 3rd round of the draft. (Picking 28th, they'd end up with a second tier prospect at that position anyway.) Someone like Chester Taylor or Magahee would be great, but AJ only makes that move if Sproles goes, which I don't think he does. As many have previously stated, this is a team built around the pass now, and what the team's greatest need in a back will be someone who can pick up short yardage and pick up the blitz. Incidentally, both things Tomlinson was still pretty good at last year. Because of those qualities, I could see LT going to the Texans, especially if Slaton's injury is bad.

My fear is that he ends up on the Pats. This looks like the classic Corey Dillon/Fred Taylor signing all over again. The only good thing that would come out of that would be to see all the Pats fans in the Pool who are still bitter about a press conference. Hey fellas, you won three rings this decade, you might want to let it go.

I like the NE landing possibility, but there are other options. I see LT being part of a nice RBBC. He could handle more for short stretches, but could mentor a Rookie to develop a nice work ethic program. Some already mentioned.... just my thoughts:NEP, Philly, TB, Miami, Seattle, DetNE - Fred Taylor, Sammy Morris, Kevin Faulk, L Maroney are all decent, nothing special RB talent at this point in their careers. Maroney is nice between the 20's RB - uses open space OK, but struggles in the Red Zone. Fred Taylor is 33 yo (IIRC) and faced serious injury. Not something NE would want to risk again. Sammy Morris is a nice GL back, but also struggles with injuries. K Faulk is up in years but is still a part of the offense. Philly - McCoy, Weaver & possible late round rookie RB (Ben Tate from Auburn or Montario Hardesty from Tennessee) Westbrook is leaning to retire while his knees still function. The fear from another concussion is also a factor. McCoy is a reduced copy of Westbrook; It will take him time to develop into a game force. Not a 20+touch game player Weaver is a solid FB in the Philly scheme. He might not return. A rookie will be long term development. Philly needs RB help now. TB - Caddy, E Graham, D Ward are a marginal group, but lacking explosiveness. Caddy made it 16 games for the 1st time. Will it repeat? Magic 8 Balls says - doubtful. Graham is more of a FB, but carried well when put into lead role in 2008. D Ward has the freshest legs (at 29 yo), but NYG let him go for a reason....Miami - Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams, Patrick Cobbs, Lex Hilliard (age & injury make them in need). Ronnie is a beast when healthy. That has not happened much these past few years. Ricky signed another extension and has shown he found the fountain of youth.... but for how long can he carry it? Cobbs is recovering from injury, but was only depth RB Lex arrived on the scene due to injury, and showed a little flashSeattle - J Jones, J Forsett show a serious need to upgrade; Pete Carrol will want his RB, not Holgrem leftovers.... J Jones left Big D with a chip on his shoulder... he tried, but injury cost him his job. J Forsett is a nice COP RB, small and quick, but can he handle more than 3 games with 15+ touches? Detroit - Kevin Smith, Maurice Morris, Aaron Brown K Smith has a long road to recover from his shredded knees. Some reports say career ending issues, but not sure. Ma Morris is 30 and is not a long term answer. A Brown is a 6th round pick.... really, a 6th round?

I can see those too. But I think at this point in his career, and having been SOOOO close to the Super Bowl these last several years, I don't see LT willing to sign with a team like Seattle or Detroit. He would want to be on a team that has a really good chance of getting to the Super Bowl, or else he retires. Just my 2 cents...And I say this as a Lions fan who absolutely loves LT. GAWD I'd love to see LT in Detroit, even if he's lost a step or two... would fit nicely with Smith hurt and needing to recover more.
