LaMont Jordan May Not Get 23-26 Carries A Game (1 Viewer)

From RotoWorld:

Raiders coach Art Shell isn't so sure he'll get LaMont Jordan's desired "23-26" carries a game.

Jordan is obsessed with those numbers, saying the exact same ones were needed last year for him to be effective. Shell said he was going to get Justin Fargas more carries this season.

I would hope not. Even on a low end, that would mean 370 carries. On the high end, 416. Shell makes sense, Jordan does not.

Preseason Coaching Rules

1. Have balanced attack (except Martz)

2. keep RB1 to about 15-20 a game to keep him fresh

3. keep RB2 to about 10 carries a game to keep ready if RB1 goes down

4. Claim that nobody is a guaranteed starter so there is a camp battle

5. Have balanced attack (except Martz)

Regular Season Coaching Rules

1. Do whatever it takes to win this Sunday....

Jordan should get 25 touches a game.

Let's cut to the chase. Jordan is completely overvalued IMO this year. What was a nice late 2nd roun pick last season is now a mid round 1st...too much. His ypc was terrible and not helped with a so so at best OL. Jordan will not repeat his catches from a year ago either...I think he takes at least 10-20% dip from last season.

LaDainian Tomlinson averaged 3.6 yards per carry in his first season as a starter...should we have avoided him as overvalued the following year?I don't have a ton of confidence in Art Shell and his coaches, but I do think that a) the Raiders O-line wasn't bad for lack of talent, they underachieved, and b) Shell and his coaches will have the unit playing well. I would be STUNNED if Jordan didn't average 4.0 yards or more this season. He's a career 4.3 YPC, by the way.

Make sure your not around any sharp objects Jason so you don't hurt yourself. Check out Shell's rushing record as HC back in the 90s...the non Bo Jackson years...it isn't bery good, mediocre at best. Wanna compare Bo jackson in his prime to Lamont Jordan? I didn't think so.Jason, I think Jordan was a nice find last season and he was pegged by the board and rightly so. But the fact is he could never unseat an aging Curtis martin for whatever the reason...I don't think he has particularly good vision...and with a very mediocre(at best) OL he is set up to not meet expectations.

Comparing LT to Jordan is not a good comparison JW and I expect better of you. LT was a highly touted rookie and San Diego handed him the ball 43 times in his 1st game if memory serves me right. He got a ton of touches and even with a low ypc we all felt he was a superstar...no one on this board has those same feelings for lamont Jordan I hope. You could see LT was going tob e a superstar almost instantly. Diving over the pile in his 1st game a s a Charger...Jordan is nothing like that, sorry.

Art Shell and his rushing stats as HC.

'89...he took over 4 games into the season. 2,038-4.49-9TD...this ranked them 9,3, and 26th in those categories. Bo Jackson is on the team.

'90...2,028-4.09-20TDs...and they finished 9,12, and 3rd...not bad so far but lets see what happens when Bo Jackson exits the football world.

'91...1,706-4.13-8TDs...finishing 15, 17, and 23rd...mind you there are only 28 teams at this time. Some of our readers are really getting thrown for a loop right now...28 TEAMS! Yep.

'92...1,794-4.12-7Tds...finishing 11, 12, and 24th...his teams did not score very much rushing the football...the Randy Moss owners are getting excited right about now.

'93...1,425-3.29-10TDs...finishes 26, 27, and 15th...OUCH!

'94...1,512-3.53-7TDs...finishes 21, 20, and 25th...and this is the end of Art Shell in Oakland.

I don't see where he was that great at getting the OL to really make a push.

How many years are we going to say the Raiders O-line underachieved? It seems to be a yearly thing.

At this point Jordan is the starting RB with no chance of losing his job. He will get starter touches and had a very successful run as the goal line back last season he will conitinue those duties this season. Barring injury he is a lock to put up top 15 numbers OF COURSE with a chance at finishing much higher. Drafting Lamont in the top 10 is a safe pick.
