Last place team not fielding full starting squad due to injury/bye (1 Viewer)

Alright we have an owner who likes to load up on the Indy offense. He kept Manning and Wayne in the offseason, traded Jennings and Witten for Dallas after the draft, etc. He also has Garcon. The same week Clark went on IR, he picked up Jermichael Finley (he did not drop Clark). He was 0-6 at the time. Week 7 he did not have starters at 3 positions due to injury and bye week because he's holding all these Colts and injured players. Week 8 he didn't have a tight end because he picked up Blair White "on a hunch"

He's now 0-8.

My opinion is that you can manage your roster as you see fit, but you need to have starters at each position each week.

What is your opinion on whether it's acceptable for owners to have open starting spots on Sunday?

If it's not in the rules, I don't know what you could do.

I think he should start a full lineup though just to keep the competitive balance. If I was fighting for a playoff spot with another team and they essentially get a free win, I'd be ticked off.

Depends on your league rules. If it doesn't specifically state that you must have active players in each position you have no leg to stand on. I have punted a position a few times when I would have had to drop a good player to fill a position. I hate to do it but once in awhile because of small roster sizes, injuries, etc it can happen. Sounds to me that someone may have their eye on some of his "injured" players for the future?? Just sayin' :goodposting:

Honestly, it sounds that everyone that has gone against this guy has received a "lay up" win. Not that it makes it right, but I am more worried about the integrity of the league when there are inconsistencies (i.e. guy was competitive until he lost Clark and then he began to mail it in). I think the best thing to do (IF you are the commish) would be to warn him that he needs to start fielding a starting line up. If he ignores this, he has been warned and as a group, you can do what you see fit. Some people have bad intentions and others are just ignorant. I feel for the "ignorant" folks, and if you break it down that he can only keep 3 players (yes, sometimes you need to get that basic), he will come around and realize the hoarding of all these 5th-7th rounders will get him nowhere.

Are you the Commish? If not, is he/she aware of what is going on?

Been a big problem in one of my leagues I manage, I added a rule that I enforced once but wont again until next season (Should add rules during the season, but I felt it necessary)

The rules is, Come sunday all skill-positions* must be filled with a eligible** starter.

*Skill-Position - QB, RB, WR

**Ineligible - Players on Bye/Injured/Suspended/Released to FA

I think its important to sustain the competitive nature of the league.

I know some owners who will forfiet a win (or put players in that have a bye) to keep their team in tact. They'll take the one loss thinking they they will get it all out of the way that one week.

Again, if it's not in the rules, not much you can do. If it becomes a problem after the season, add it.

Depends on the league. In a dynasty with relatively tights rosters, I could see that scenario being acceptable. Those are tough waters to navigate. It's hard to force somebody to drop somebody they really like long-term for a guy that doesn't help them at all except for a single game in a season with no playoffs in the plans.
