Last Playoff Spot (1 Viewer)

For leagues that use total points scored and not overall record as a determinant for the last playoff spot I have a few questions because I am toying with this idea.

1. Do you like how it works or do you find that it does not do what it is supposed to (ie-best team to not make playoffs made it in this format)

2. Should a team make the playoffs if they have one or two monster weeks. They can score average the rest of the year but because of their two huge weeks, they are now in and a better team out

I just dont know if having a team that scores a lot (whether its 1,2,3 or 4 weeks) supersedes a record. Just trying to work out next years rules so we can have draft lottery

We have this rule in our league as well and I am having it reworded for next year. The rule says last playoff spot for highest point total team. The original intent was to make sure that a team that scored a ton of points in the year but got ganked in a bunch of weeks by some team outscoring them. So, the new rule will read that Division winners make the playoffs, wild cards are determined by overall record and total points as the tie breaker. Exception is if the total points leader for weeks 1-13 did not get one of the 5 playoffs spots that owner will get the final wildcard spot.

That would defnitely take care of my scenario where a team only scores 2 or 3 big weeks. I like the wording there, thanks.Anyone else?

You could use an all-play record instead. This is the record each team would have if every single week they had a head to head game with every team in the league. So if week 1 you have the high score you went 11-0 in a 12 teamer. If you were the 5th highest score you'd go 7-4.

This stat is available in the MFL power rank chart, and I would hope anywhere else being used as a league host can generate it. If not, it wouldn't be hard at all to do in excel. It's probably the truest reflection of how your team did over the course of the season compared to the other teams in the league.

Another very good idea. I like that better then the points idea. Thanks.
