Lawrence Phillips(former Nebraska rb) (1 Viewer)

i am surprised he took his own life i guess i figured that if he died in prison it would be getting in a fight with another guy or whatever bromigos

Lawrence Phillips was probably the most physically gifted RB to come through Nebraska. It's been so sad to see this happen but virtually every report about him has been progressively worse for the last decade. There was quote in some article I read that he wished he could just be in solitary confinement all the time, being around people, particularly other prisoners, was just too hard for him.

He's a difficult subject to grapple with as a Nebraska fan. So tied into the success of the 90s, but also a relatively rare negative on an otherwise brilliant record for Tom Osborne. I'm sure he's devastated by the way things have turned out. Osborne, rightfully, took a lot of heat for not kicking Phillips off the team when he had his domestic violence incident at NU. That team was so good it didn't really need Phillips. I really believe Dr. Tom let him stay because he thought Phillips needed the structure of the team or would spiral into what he eventually became.

I hope he finds peace in death that he never had in life.

This guy is one of the main reasons that RBs are much more scrutinized coming out of college. It's important to ascertain if the back has real talent, or if he was the product of an offensive line behind which Dom DeLuise would have averaged 8 YPC. And oh yeah, Phillips was/is a rotten guy too.
Like Richardson, he didn't fail due to lack of talent.
I notice those are all Nebraska highlights. Has anyone mentioned that his offensive line opened gigantic holes?
Did you watch those clips? Sure their offensive line was great, but he created a lot on his own.
I dont see a whole lot of playmaking in that highlight reel either.

No different than a Ron Dayne reel.

Except Dayne fills the empty space in him with pudding and Phillips hurts people.

:lmao: Please tell me you're not talking about Trent Richardson
The one and only.

The burst is gone.
He definitely lost a step or two. It is a shame someone that gifted athletically and could have lived such a blessed life, had a few loose screws. RIP

I could see CTE maybe being involved here.
He had a very messed up childhood. Pretty much lived in a crack house then abandoned by crackhead mom. Spent a big part of his childhood in group homes or foster care.

Not making excuses for him. He was given plenty of chances. Just never got things straight.
Not speaking for DB here, but I could see CTE making a bad situation worse. Either one or both could be at play here.

The article makes a very compelling case that Phillips was murdered. What a horrible tragedy his life turned into.
