LB Leber A Favorite For Starting Spot

Summary: Linebacker Ben Leber seems to be a front-runner to lock down a starting LB spot this season. His versatility will certainly come in handy when the final depth chart is listed. "I was fortunate to be in a number of different systems, so I think versatility is one thing the Vikings saw in me," Leber said. "I can play over the tight end and I've played in this type of defense for two years. So I think versatility is one thing I can bring."

Personal view: Lots of confusion this offseason in determining who the linebacker corps will end up being. With this article stating that Harris seems to have the upperhand at MLB and Greenway working almost exclusively at WLB, then I'd be willing to bet that Leber is your starting SLB this year (notice he mentions he can play over the TE, a SLB responsibility.)

This is a mess. When it all washes out, I'd bet that Henderson ends up starting in the middle flanked by Leber and Greenway. Harris will backup at SLB/MLB and Thomas will backup WLB.

I'm still hesitant to annoint Greenway the WLB job and assume the winner of Henderson, Harris, and Thomas will be the MLB. It could be Greenway doesn't crack the lineup and Henderson is WLB with Harris/Thomas the MLB to start the year. And unless Henderson proves he can't handle the WLB, Greenway is a part-time player in year one.

I bet that Dontarrius and EJ will fight to play along Greenway WLB
