Lee Evans (1 Viewer)

Trap Play

Footballguy
Hi all.

OK. Maybe this doesn't deserve its own thread, but I'm seeing a lot of Lee Evans hype this week regarding what a great play he is, and I'm not buying it. I've been burned by this guy a number of times this year, so, yeah, I'm a little biased. However, I do think that he has a chance to turn things around this year, but just not this week.

The Green Bay Packers have been pretty putrid against the pass this year, but they are turning it around. Last week Green Bay shutdown Anquan Boldin, and Al Harris' play has only improved over the course of this year. In fact, Green Bay has done a very good job of containing their opponents primary receivers this year. Add on top of this that it looks like Charles Woodson is playing this week: http://packers.com/news/stories/2006/11/03/2/ , and I just don't see how playing Evans as your WR2 is going to be anything other than a big letdown.

Initially, I was planning on starting him this week alongside T.O. Now I'm starting to reconsider whether he is a better option than Driver....or Glenn or Gabriel for that matter. The Pack D, as of late, has been respectable against team's WR1. Holt, Chambers and Boldin combined for 10 rec, 116 yds and 1 TD on 27 targets.

Evans may not be the slam dunk we thought he was when we looked ahead at the schedule 3-4 weeks ago. But then again, he still makes a solid play this week.

Woodson has been playing well this season and he'll be locked on Evans all game. I'm going with Chris henry instead. FWIW

Woodson may be playing well but he's not covering the opposition's #1 WR. Al Harris is having a Pro-Bowl caliber season in that role and will be locked on Evans this week. Start Evans only if you have no other options.

I'm forced to go with Lee Evans this week with my top 2 WRs on a bye.

I'll be at the game so I hope Evans goes off!

A little good karma: Last time I started a WR at a Bills game I attended, Antonio Freeman scored twice!

I'm starting T.O. and Colston, but have to pick between Evans and Randy Moss as my 3rd WR. I initially thought it was a no brainer going with Evans - GREAT MATCH-UP - ....but the Packers defense has been fairly tough recently on #1 WR's and I expect Moss to put up pretty decent numbers on Monday night.

Still leaning slightly towards Evans........

Soooo...according to this thread both Al Harris and Charles Woodson are having really good years, and yet the Packers have an awful pass defense. Something doesn't smell right.

I don't know about Charles Woodson, but Al Harris seems to be playing better as the season goes on. Most of the yardage being accumulated against the Packers appears to be coming from their opponents WR2 and WR3. Even a stud like Holt only managed 40 yards and a TD, low by his standards. So, I think it makes sense to take note of trends like this rather than patently say, oh, that defense allows a lot of yardage, so naturally player X is a good play. Well, player X isn't a good play if he's the WR1 and the defense in question has been shuting down WR1s more often than not.

Evans should be a lock to have a big day this weekend, since I'm leaving him on the bench and starting Roi Williams and Driver.

I have to play Evans due to Reggie Brown having the BYE........but I still think that Evans can get 120yds plus a long TD.

I'm hoping anyways.

I mentioned Evans in my all my radio spots this week. Expect him to have a big game. Dude is a super talent playing on a bad team.

I'm still convinced Lee gets 7-9 TDs this year. Who knows when that will happen, but since he only has one I expect some big games this second half. This match-up looks o.k. though Woodson is playing now. Evans is as due as any WR in the league.

I like the o-line moves that Buffalo has made, moving Jason Peters to LT. If this results in an extra 1/2 second for Losman, Evans could be huge. I am playing him, but to be fair, I have to- he is # 3 for me and I have no #4.

I like Evans at the start... here's why:

1) The Packers run game has been getting better every week. It helps that they've been playing terrible teams. This week should be another big game on the ground. That means they'll probably get a lead, control the clock and be ahead most of the game (might be tough without Morency, but still)

2) The Bills are a bad team and just like I mentioned in #1, they will be losing most of the game. They also have a bad QB. What does that mean? Chuck and pray. You'll see a lot of deep throws.

3) Al Harris will be shadowing Evans all game long. Harris is a good corner, but he is weak against strong receivers on deep passes. He can get fooled on stop-and-go type routes and if you're big and physical (like Evans certainly can be) you can blow by him deep.

4) The Packers safties have been terrible all year. Manuel is way too slow to catch up on deep passes for help and Collins doesn't know if he's playing the run, the pass or returning a punt. That means Harris will be on his own.

Makes sense to me.

Half a game played, 1 reception for 15 yards. Boy, he sure is a great play this weekend.
did you like that 45 yard TD pass he just caught?
Yeah I think I called it perfectly (minus the score of the game). Al Harris bit on the out and up and there was no safety help over the top.

Bit premature? It happens to some folks. Don't let it get you down.
I have Evans in every league and I desparately want this guy to have a breakout game, but I wouldn't call yesterday a "big game." A pretty good game certainly, but in no way would I call this a breakout game or even a particularly big game. I'll take it, but I want more!!

I wouldn't get too crazy about Lee Evans yesterday. He had a decent fantasy day, but he had 2 catches for 58 yards a TD. The 43 yard TD catch was on a blown coverage; if it wasn't for that play, Lee would've been mediocre. Points are points in fantasy no matter how you get them so I'm not going to knock Lee too much, but this wasn't really a "big" game (I consider the numbers Roy W and Colston put up as big games for a WR)

i just traded for Evans in my dynasty league to be my #3 WR. I gave up a 1st round pick(should be a late round pick) for him.

I thought his FF #s where good enough for a #3 WR
