Left ear clogged for 5 days. UPDATE (1 Viewer)

This whole thing is convincing me even more that my Q tip every day after showering routine is the right way to go.

I'm not talking about using them after letting it build up to this point, but keeping it from building up in the first place.
Wait..... How else were you cleaning your ears prior to this?

:help:

This is exactly the type I use. You fill it up with TEPID water (feels neither warm or cold). You insert the tip in your ear canal a comfortable distance (1/2")and BLAST the water in there. It is the flow that matters. The temperature is so you maintain your equilibrium. Keep your head level. It may take 6-7 bulbs full.

You should feel a tingling almost ticklish sensation as the stream rushes down your ear canal. Even at max discharge the water pressure will not damage your eardrum. You need the pressure to dislodge the wax. I often get solid pieces out about the size of an eraser on a new #2 pencil.

If you experience pain you could have an infection or other problem so cease with the irrigation and see a doctor.

My hearing improves instantly. You are likely to feel slightly dizzy for moment and have some water drainage for a minute but it is very effective and much better and safer than Q tips.

My doctor told me it's actually not good for your ears to 'clean' them frequently, that wax build up is a defense, it also keeps a level of moisture in your ear to prevent painful dry skin.

I was told to q-tip only when it was excessive and wasn't naturally draining (ear wax will periodically fall out of your ears, sort of like boogers.)

Edit: Why don't you work quotes? Too good for me?
Yeah, I'm pretty sure I have excessive wax production, so I'm guessing there's still enough left over for whatever protection is needed.

And natural drainage is great until it isn't and you have to deal with all these other methods.

I used to listen to the recommendation not to stick Q tips in your ear canal, so only cleaned the outer part. Usually with a wash cloth in the shower, if you must know. :)

Many years later now and I've never had a problem.

Had something like this a few years back, tried everything myself. Was putting peroxide in my ear to hear the crackling, hoping it would clear it.

Went to the doc and it was an ear infection which only he could fix with a prescription. Had 2 medications, 1 antibotic and some kind of anti-histamine to dry it out. Better in about a week.

Would be lying to you if I said I wasn't 90% sure it was a spider in there. The occasional sounds make it seem like movement. "You sure there ain't a bug in there doc?"

I went thru this about this time last year too. At first I though it was allergies but nothing happened when I took medicine. Then one day a disgustingly massive piece of wax just fell out of my ear one morning. Felt a little better but was still a bit plugged. Went to the ENT where he worked on my ear for 15-20 minutes scooping some pretty nasty chunks of wax out deep in my ear. Felt amazing when he got done though.

The funny thing is I've been having an issue with my other ear. When I fell and broke my elbow (5 weeks ago today) i hit my head on the ground requiring surgical glue to close a wound above my left eyebrow. For a split second I thought I may have broken my jaw as well. I forgot about it as my head was pouring out blood and my left arm was obviously damaged in some way. The jaw felt a little sore but nothing too bad. So a few days later I'm resting, on painkillers watching the nfl draft when i notice an intermittent beeping sound. I start listening around the place to try and figure out where the noise is coming from when I realize it's coming from inside my right ear. When I cover the ear I can hear it loud and clear. So with everything else going on I don't think much of it and hope it'll resolve on it's own. It doesn't. So last week I'm thinking maybe I knocked some ear wax loose or something when I fell so I try the wax removal drops to see if it helps. I doesn't help. I decide to do the other ear while I'm at it and that ear (the good ear) has been clogged ever since. On top of that with the left arm in the sling I've been overcompensating with the other arm (carrying stuff) and I hurt something in my right hip. It's killing me. I'm walking with a limp. Just a few weeks ago I was running 3 miles every day, feeling great and now here I am with issue after issue. I'm going to be in the sling until at least July. I can't run, I feel myself falling out of shape and my mood is getting worse and worse. I'm depressed. Now I'm off to the doctor to deal with a problem that's about 8th on the list. Rant over.

Not sure your pinch nose technique but make sure to make your clogged ear perpendicular to the sky and clean ear to the floor then pinch and blow.

Just had a serious thought. Dawn dish detergent seems to break down grease, I wonder if it would work on ear wax. You could squirt some of that in your ear then rinse it our with warm water. You might want to look up approved usage before attempting this.

So got into the urgent care clinic. She diagnosed it as Eustachian Tube dysfunction brought on by nasal allergies and the initial Debroxing that I did. Basically I had some fluid in my tube there from allergies (didn't even know I had any) and may have sucked it way up in there when Debroxing. Then the tube closes and screws up the pressure. They flushed the ear about 8 times (felt great), got some wax pieces out. The ear didn't completely pop and still hasn't but feels about 80% better. Picked up an ear syringe and got a prescription for Flonase which i just snorted. Thanks for the tips, so many right answers in here.

FYI.. no infection. anti-biotics not needed.

The flonase has really cleared me up. Damn. Ear feels 95%. That stuff is great.

SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR EAR PROBLEMS. HOPE THERE IS NO LONG TERM SIDE EFFECTS

Went to the doctor last week and got my ears flushed. I have these problems frequently. So gross. Two giant pieces fell out. One looked like it had a tail.

I enjoy snorting things too. Glad you are feeling better.

I've read people with narrow ear canals are generally the ones who frequently have these problems. This thread got me into the weird part of YouTube yesterday looking at videos of this...pretty nasty stuff.

This is exactly what I had/have. I'm on Nasonex or Nasacort or something like that. Mucinex-D may also help.

I didn't have fluid, though.

I wonder if flushing out would help things along for me.... I swear I make enough wax to make a candle :oldunsure:

The flushing felt great. They used the big syringe with a little extended tip on it. Really shot it in there. Wish i had them do the other ear while I was there.
