Leftwich could be cut? (1 Viewer)

When Leftwich was a prospect coming into the NFL I thought he was vastly overrated. People were actually saying that he was a better quarterback than Carson Palmer and that he should be drafted before him in the NFL draft...Some got a little too sentimental watching the clip of his linemen carrying him for the next play in college when he was injured. Now, I think it's getting to the point where he's actually underrated. The guy is not as bad as some here seem to imply. He's the best qb on the Jags team, and better than some other quarterbacks that take a lot less heat than he does.

What the hell is in the water in Jacksonville?

There were some rumors last year about Lefty being on the outs in JAX, but then they bring him back and don't even really bring anyone in to push him. They re-signed Garrard but if they really thought he was their guy wouldn't they given him the reigns permanently by now?

The WR situation is well documented. They seem to burn high draft picks on these guys(Williams/Jones were first rounders!) and depending on when you read the article they go from having a very solid summer and starting to live up to their potential to being on the verge of being cut every other week. It's pretty much impossible to guess who'll be the #1 WR or be cut.

Their best TE last year was far and away Wrightster, so they promptly go out and sign Jermaine Wiggins but annoint underperforming Mercedes Lewis as the starter.

Let's not forget their #1 player on their offense(at least according to the FF community)...... their BACKUP RB.

Is it spin control? Motivational tactics? The front office/HC/OC have no idea what they are doing? Secrecy? Alien abduction? I take any rumors I hear coming out of JAX with a grain of salt.

Lewis wasn't really an "underperforming" player. He was hurt. I didn't mind that pick at all.

Somewhat related, but what are the collective thoughts on Garrard's ability to be a consistent starter? From what I've seen of him, mostly when Leftwich was out injured, Garrard seemed like he could run the offense efficiently.
He fed Houston 4 INT's last year. He sucks.
You didn't watch that game, did you?2 of them went off Matt Jones hands, a third was a tipped pass at the line, and the 4th (iirc) went off Williams' hands.Guy wasn't great by any means in that game, but I felt bad for the guy watching his WRs let him down that week.

Ok, even if they still have high expectations of Lewis..... Wrightster had a very solid year so why go out and sign Wiggins? Sometimes I get the feeling they are making roster decisions using a dart board.

That was a DelRio move. Wiggins is tough and loves to mix it up. DelRio "eats that up". He could primarily be just a blocking TE and fit in fineETA I think the announcers said something similar the last game as well

Maybe that's why I didn't understand the move. Never thought of Wiggins as a good blocker.

Two words - Mike Tice

PFT-

POSTED 9:20 a.m. EDT; UPDATED 9:33 a.m. E.D.T, August 27, 2007JAGUARS CUT WIGGINS, SORENSEN by Michael David Smith PFT has learned that the Jacksonville Jaguars have cut tight end Jermaine Wiggins, safety Nick Sorensen and linebacker/defensive end Jorge Cordova. Wiggins was a free agent signing who played for the Vikings last year. Sorensen was heading into his fourth season with the Jaguars. Cordova was the Jags' third-round pick in 2004. Jaguars assistant head coach Mike Tice had previously coached Wiggins when Tice was the head coach in Minnesota, and Tice was said to have pushed for the signing of Wiggins to a one-year, $1 million contract this off-season. Wiggins was shaken up after a big hit in the Packers' preseason game at Green Bay last week and was reported to have suffered a concussion. He also had a key drop in the game.

:goodposting:

Del Rio pretty much sealed his fate with this move.

Garrard is horrible.
