Legal Lineup question... (1 Viewer)

Posted this in the Assistant Coach forum but thought it would be better suited here since it concerns rules and strategies in a general nature.

Question, what are your league's rules concerning bye weeks? Since time began in our league we have been able to start a player even if he was on a bye week unless of course it was obvious that an owner was trying to lay down for someone. This allowed you the "option" of carrying a RB or WR or two extra. But say you had only one TE and no player you felt comfortable dropping then we have always had the option of starting that player anyway. This season our commish ARBITRARILY instituted a new rule making it illegal to start a player that was on a bye. It stems from a situation last year where the commish tried to block another owner from picking up the player he wanted to cover a bye week by grabbing him off the waiver wire first, so the owner just decided to not pick up a player and whooped up on the commish with one less productive player anyway.

So what are the rules in your own league? And have you ever had a commish do something like this against the league's wishes? Our commish did put up a poll on our website prior to the draft asking for people to "vote". However, when the votes started going against him he removed the poll and then on draft day just "announced" the new rule.

Thanks guys...

Here are the two basic rules I have concerning starting lineups and byes.Sounds like the commish is just being a whiny baby and forcing everyone to play along. Kinda late in the game to drop the league, but if enough owners band together and threaten to leave, maybe he'll see the error of his ways...2.3 A lineup that is not altered will carry over from week-to-week. This includes players that may be injured, on a bye, etc. It is each owner’s responsibility to ensure the accuracy of their starting lineup. Players started on a BYE will accumulate zero points.13.1 The league agrees to the following general philosophies regarding sportsmanship: 1. In the event that negative points are a possibility, electing to bench a player yet to play when enough points have already been secured for a win is an acceptable strategy.
