Len Pasquarelli? Status? (1 Viewer)

I know he's either a love him or hate em guy. Personally, I've missed his Tip Sheet and Notes columns that used to come out on Friday's even if it did seem that more and more, you'd heard from another source as to what he was speaking about. That said, for the guy to gut out the HOF selection process in the midst of what turned out to be a heart attack - heck that's playing hurt.

Since then though, I haven't heard word one on how he's doing, if he's returning to ESPN at all, or anything. I figure given some of the inside sources some here seem to have as well as perhaps the FBG staff whether they had an update to report or had heard anything.

No big deal - just curious.

Pasquarelli is recovering from quintuple bypass surgery, and was recently awarded the #### McCann award (he'll be honored at the Canton Ohio Hall of Fame dinner this year)

McCann Award: Len Pasquarelli

This award is named in honor of the first executive director of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. the #### McCann Award is given annually by the PFWA to honor one of its members for distinguished service.

After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh and working as a teacher, coach and newspaper stringer, Pasquarelli became editor of Pittsburgh Steelers Weekly in 1978. He joined the Pro Football Weekly staff in 1982, then went to the Fort Wayne News-Sentinel to handle the Indianapolis Colts beat in 1986. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution hired Pasquarelli to cover the Atlanta Falcons in 1989. A decade later, he entered cyberspace with SportsLine.com before landing at ESPN.com in 2001.

Pasquarelli became ill during Pro Football Hall of Fame voting at the last Super Bowl and had emergency, quintuple bypass surgery -- but not before he voted and wrote his column.
He'll probably be away for a while longer, as they have to actually stop the heart beating all together to perform that many bypasses, and it's a majorly intrusive procedure (he's got an enormous incision/scar on his chest if it looks anything like my uncles' or my dad's surgeries). As Pasquarelli was very obese before the heart attack, he's got a lot of rehab/weight loss to complete before he can get back to any level of activity.

Take care of yourself, Mark.

I grew up reading Pasquarelli's "Tip Sheet" style stuff at the Atlanta Journal Constitution. On a side note, that was a great sports section in the 80s with Furman Bisher, Dave Kindred, Chris Mortensen, Pasquarelli (I think was there with these guys), etc.

I enjoyed the Tip sheet also. Hopefully Lenny will be back if that's what he wants...

if he weren't such a Skins hater, I'd have a lot more sympathy for him. But all kidding aside, as long as you're not as Skins fan, he does a great job writing about your team...

:goodposting: If we're lucky, they removed the black part of his heart that has it out for Snyder and the Redskins.
