Let’s talk national chain pizzas 🍕 (1 Viewer)

Where do you fall on the debate of who makes the best pizza? I had Pizza Hut for the first time in twenty years and noticed the quality was okay. Usually domino’s thin crust is pretty good. Can’t say I’ve ever had little Caesar’s or papa johns.

My opinion. Papa Johns’ sauce is mostly ketchup. It’s great for kids, but not for anyone with a more developed pallet. That said, I’m a dominoes guy so say what you will. I had Marco‘s for the first time a couple of days ago and was impressed, but I need more data.

East Tennessee checking in. Not exactly gourmet pizza country.

Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza started by.a Long Island immigrant in South Florida is now at 61 locations in 8 states. It's casual sit-down. The roasted cauliflower, eggplant Marino, and arugula are great. But the quality has gone as they expanded and the.original owners were bought out.

Marco’s but you are paying a little more for better quality.  And honestly, it’s not that great but it’s better than the rest.

It’s so easy to find local pizza shops - around here at least - that I don’t really get pizza from any chain places, but with that said I do enjoy Dominoes once in a while.

It's all garbage. The least garbagy may be the Brooklyn style from Dominos. It isn't very good though
Had this for the first time a few weeks ago. It was ok. I was surprised it was as ‘good’ as it was.

My wife likes dominoes thin crust. It’s also ok, too much like a cracker for me.

During the pandemic I had Pizza Hut for the first time in like 10 years. Way worse than I remembered.

Papa John’s is very doughy and very bad.

Had little Caesar’s at a birthday party. Also very doughy but maybe the best flavor of them all? Was like eating a salt lick however, I remember guzzling water for hours.

Overall I think they are all pretty bad but dominoes pretty clearly the best.

If the choices are Pizza Hut, Dominos, Papa Johns and Little Caesar’s I’m taking LC every time, but local owned places are always better

LC pretzel dough pizza though is actually pretty darn good

Pizza Hut used to be pretty good way back when. Quality has gone way down. There have actually been articles about how they be tried to cut costs by going with cheaper ingredients.

Agreed back in the day Pizza Hut was the gold standard for chain pizza now it's arguably the worst of the bunch.  In my opinion it is.

Does Giordano's qualify?  They operate in 9 or 10 states now.  Of the ones being discussed above, they are all pretty bad.  I worked at a Pizza Hut while in college.  Ate a lot of it back then and it pretty much turned me off for the future.  Dominos and Little Caeser's are like eating cardboard.  I think I have only had Marcos once and frankly don't remember much about it.  There are none located conveniently near me.  My go to chain is Gioninio's.  Although they have 50-60 locations, I believe they operate only in Ohio so not part of the national discussion, I guess.

I have never heard of Marcos on the west coast so I don't think it counts as a national chain.  I prefer local places but Dominos or Little Caesars would be my pick for national I guess.

We used to Pizza Hut for two reasons.  It was close and my wife likes the hot wings.

As of about 6 weeks ago, we do Jets.  Way better pizza, wings aren't quite as good, but still pretty decent, and not too inconvenient for us.  introduced my parents to it last week and they also loved it, but its not in either of the two areas they live.

Marcos, at least the one near us, is trash.  We didn't like them at all.

Dominos and Little Caesars (gasp) are ok in a pinch, but neither is convenient to us.

Papa Johns has always been gross to me.

Donatos is ok from time to time, but not sure how national they are.  They give it to us at work about once a year when they aren't torturing us with LaRosas (local chain)

Looks like 19 states.  I've never had it.
I forget exactly where you are and don't go out of your way for it, but if you're near one of few locations that have popped up around here and craving some pizza on your way home pick some up and give it a shot. We're a half mile away from one of them and it's made its way into the once every couple-few months after a busy day of kids sports rotation.

I used to appreciate the fresh mushrooms that Little Cesars used on their pizzas. Better than the canned stuff used by most of the others. Not sure if they still use fresh mushrooms.

There is a point of such quality drop off, frozen pizza is better.  For example, Digiorno's is better than Little Caesars.

The thin crust Donato's style is what I want from a pizza - but given the choice - when in Ohio, I go with Marion's, a similar style but far superior pizza.

very thin crust ...not crackery - it's crisp but has a "chew" - and cut in squares

I actually like Domino's pan pizza.  I liked it even better when the sausage was of the sliced variety but now they only have the "crumble" version.   I also like their stuffed cheesy bread.

My daughter and wife prefer Pizza Hut and will oblige them sometimes, it's OK.

I've heard good things about Marco's, but the closest one to us is like an hour away.

Little Caesar's does OK in a pinch, and had their stuffed crust for the first time this past weekend and it was actually decent.  It may be because I had been slamming beers all night though.

we got our first pizza chain here a couple years ago (right at the beginning of COVID) but i believe in supporting local over corporate so we didnt use it til company came on a Monday - when our ####ty town parlor is closed - and we sent out to Dominos. could not beLIEVE how much salt they use on every aspect of their product. i aint no pizza snob but, when food swells ol'man feet, ima git sumn else.

Yeah, here's where I'm at with it :

1.) Local chains first and about 95% of the time at this point, it's just so much better it's not even close.
2.) For chains, I would vote Jets, Giordano's, Marcos and sometimes Uno's.  My local Uno's varies, depending on the head chef.  Sometimes they have great head chef's, other times, not so much.
3.) Frozen pizza.

4.) Last way tie with Papa John's first of the worst, Domino's second and a distant 3rd Pizza S1ut.  I forgot how bad Pizza S1ut was, in a moment of weakness based on proximity, high hunger level and a coupon code we ordered Pizza Hut a couple of months ago, wow and oh my God was it horrible, we ended up throwing out what we didn't eat. . . I have a teenager that eats anything. . .  if you can't do better than frozen pizza, you shouldn't be in business.

Jets' round pizzas are good, their square Detroit style is great. And if you don't get the turbo crust youre.doing it wrong.

Marcos is prob 2nd best chain around here.

Sometimes it depends on where youre at. For example, Little Caesers in Florida is horrible, but in Michigan its pretty good. Same with Domino's. Not bad up north, not good down South. Hungry Howies up north was always meh, but here it's good in a pinch. I assume Pizza Hut sucks everywhere.

When I had Papa John's for the first time back in the day, I thought it was the best chain. Better ingredients, better pizza. Yeah. Not long after that something changed and it's been average ever since.

All that said, I go with local mom and pop shops 90% of the time.

The rare times we go this route we get Aldi pizza. It's better and cheaper than both.
Their large cheese pizza is ridiculous value and actually pretty tasty.  Great for a quick meal in a pinch or when kids come over to play.

I think it even varies within the change itself.  Dominos in my area has one good store and one bad store.   Same with Pizza Hut.  Little Ceasrs is fine for kids and it's super cheap so for kids parties it's perfect.  It's terrible pizza though (although strangely it is better the next day then fresh).

My favorite of a chain used to be Round Table but it has been taken over by Mountain Mikes (this may be a CA only place though).

I was going recommend Round Table too.  I think it may just be a west coast chain, though.

Their pesto sauce is really good.  Haven't eaten there in awhile and I'm not sure they still have it.  They're also quite expensive.

There's a Marcos 5 minutes from my house but I've never tried it.  Might give it a shot next time we're in a pinch for a quick meal.
Well given your username you might wanna tread carefully.

Is Costco a chain pizza? Because they put like 1 pound of cheese on each slice and then charge you about 80 cents for the slide. It’s good.
