Let’s talk national chain pizzas 🍕 (1 Viewer)

I'm a big fan of Paul Newman frozen sausage and pepperoni.

🦆🦆
Talking frozen...have not had the Newman

Chicago Inn Sausage and Pep I like when Publix puts it on their buy one get one (I am not paying $7 for a frozen pizza).  Has a pastry like crust that I like.

Palermo - Primo Thins are solid for frozen.

Screamin Sicilian pretty tasty too and they load you up on the meats.  Wish the crust was a bit thinner though.

Kroger had these on sale for $3 per pizza a couple years ago and I had never heard of it.  I bought 4 of them thinking it would be crap pizza for the kids to snack on.  Turns out they were pretty damn good.  I probably ate 2 of the 4 myself.

Cutting a round pizza into squares should be outlawed. So dumb

I cannot disagree more.  My favorite pizzas are done this way.

You're in the Cities, ya?  Two of my favorites living there were Checkerboard and Mama's in St. Paul.

I would devour an entire medium from Checkerboard when I worked 2nd shift right there on Energy Park Dr.  Man I miss that place.

Can't find proper tavern style out in SoCal.  :(

Pizza Hut is ALL IN!

Maybe the wrong thread, but a quick side-track:

For those in the mid-west, is it a thing to order a pepperoni pizza and they put the pepperoni under the cheese(i.e. - crust, sauce, pepperoni, cheese)?
How the hell am I supposed to dab the grease off of the pepperoni that way??

That is not the disconcerting part.  The pepperoni gets steamed.  It does not crisp up.  That is upsetting me more than I can explain.

Yes. Seems to correlate to the place also cutting the pizza into squares.

I've only had round cut into squares once. It was thin crust served as a sort of an app. Tasty, but I'm sure it would have been even tastier cut in a different shape.

haven't been back to Ohio in 3 years ...gonna have Marion's pizza at least twice and bringing some home.

great ground sausage, perfect thin crust - crisp but with "chew"

and square cut baby!!

ETA: also ate at hometown Giovanni's - love it almost as much as Marion's ...they will square cut it if you want ...

same deal though with the crust - thin, crisp, but with a chew ...highly, highly recommend for those FBGs within reasonable driving distance.

Moved to Northern Virginia a few years ago. Not found a local place that we really like. Been trying Papa John’s out of convenience. Drove across town to try Marcos last night. Not much better than PJ’s. Dominoes is near by. The food scene in my town is mostly chains (Olive Garden, Carabbas, etc). I can drive thirty minutes and have awesome dining but locally it’s awful.

Back in Ohio pizza for us  was 1) Jets (wife’s favorite) or 2)Romeo’s (my favorite, Ohio only chain I believe).
Back to Ohio to visit my Dad and family. Took advantage of the time and got some Romeo’s. Delicious!

I really am annoyed at the lack of slices options. I am at work late, and going to go golf, and would love to just grab a slice or three. But no, I have to order a whole ####### pizza everywhere. What the hell

Easily for me. I will actually sometimes choose that over local places. Though around here, most of the chains are technically local. Oddly enough, Domino's, Little Caesars', Jet's, Hungry Howie's all originated in in probably a 500 square mile area of each other in Metro Detroit.

Not enough people want to buy a slice.  It doesn't make sense to make pizzas that sit all day for one or two people to get a slice.

I don't think Sbarro is open that long to satisfy your schedule.

If you live in or around a city, I call :bs:  on this. I think a place could sell several hundred slices  a day

Of course there are places it may work but the reason a place doesn't do it is because they don't thi k they will sell enough to make it worthwhile.

In another thread it was said that some people carry their phone like it was a slice of pizza. I'd like to watch these people if they are also carrying an actual slice. Would they ever talk into the wrong thing?

Had Marcos like 2 weeks in a row now, probably been like 5-10 years before that…seems different.  They really load up the toppings which is nice, but crust seems very thick and doughy, yet light.  Extra sauces come prepackaged which is always a good flag but overall I’ll stand by my earlier assessment

I tried Marcos for the first time last week.  We tried the thin crust as well as regular.

I enjoyed the thin crust quite a bit.  I'll order it again.

The regular crust was, like you said, a little too thick and doughy for my liking.

Not sure if the name checks out.
