Let's discuss the league's RBBC situations (1 Viewer)

For anyone not drafting 2 RBs by the time round 4 comes up, you begin to wade the murky waters of uncertainty in the available players. Let's try to comprehensively evaluate these pairs: the risk, their value, and the need (or lack) to handcuff players to their competition. Not all of these are RBBC situations, but there is definite uncertainty involved when drafting any of these and it's important to have a grasp of risk vs. reward - especially when you've gone WR/WR early on. Current ADP from Antsports (HP scoring, from Aug 5-present) is listed in brackets.

Name colors indicate:

Red = ADP likely to increase significantly

Blue = ADP likely to decrease significantly

Green = ADP likely to change significantly (unknown direction)

Black = ADP unlikely to change significantly

Reggie Bush (3.08) & Deuce McAllister (5.09)

Corey Dillon (4.06) & Laurence Maroney (7.10)

Deshaun Foster (4.04) & DeAngelo Williams (7.03)

Thomas Jones (6.03) & Cedric Benson (5.05)

Chris Brown (7.06) & LenDale White (8.02) & Travis Henry (14.04)

Tatum Bell (5.02) & Ron Dayne (7.03) & Mike Bell (8.07)

Joseph Addai (4.11) & Dominic Rhodes (6.03)

Frank Gore (6.07) & Kevan Barlow (10.10)

Ahman Green (6.08) & Samkon Gado (8.12) & Najeh Davenport (14.09)

Jamal Lewis (3.07) & Mike Anderson (10.10)

Fred Taylor (5.11) & Greg Jones (9.04) & Maurice Drew (14.03)

Dominick Davis (2.07) & Vernand Morency (15.06) & Antowain Smith (15.02) & Jonathen Wells (unranked)

Julius Jones (3.02) & Marion Barber (8.05)

Curtis Martin (8.04) & Cedric Houston (9.12) & Derrick Blaylock (15.03) & Lee Suggs (unranked)

Ok, that's alot of uncertainty. If you're going to get your RB 2 from among this group, you'll need to have some degree of certainty that you've got the right guy - and if you aren't, you'll probably want the appropriate handcuff(s). The uncertainty of these situations varies significantly and the potential rewards vary just as much. Let's spend some time evaluating these situations.

There isn't a single good way to develop criteria to evaluate these because everyone's drafting situation is different. Are you looking for a backup or an every-week starter? Are you willing to spend multiple picks to lock-up a team's backfield? If so, when are you willing to spend those picks (ie - two mid rounders versus an early rounder and a late rounder)?

We should probably go over each situation individually. We'll work our way down the list, three RB situations per day, in order to get through them all in a reasonable timeframe and with some semblence of organization. I've tried to place these in an order which is most beneficial for people drafting soon, so situations with significant uncertainty and player importance go first.

Please try to evaluate all three situations in one post (edit if you need to) so that discussions are more organized. That is, unless yours is a very detailed post!

Today's three situations to consider:

Reggie Bush (3.08) & Deuce McAllister (5.09)

Corey Dillon (4.06) & Laurence Maroney (7.10)

Deshaun Foster (4.04) & DeAngelo Williams (7.03)

I think that I'd take Reggie Bush without Deuce McAllister. Bush should be able to put up numbers even with sharing the load. McAllister has had two major injuries in three years - he won't be back to 100%. I'd take Bush as low as 2.12/3.01 turn and wouldn't even consider Deuce until the 7th even with Bush. There's no way I'm touching Dillon in the 4th round. He looked terrible last year, and challenger Maroney is creeping up the board with his pre-season performance. If I can get Maroney in the 7th or 8th round, I'd consider him if I need RB depth. Otherwise, I'm not touching this combo.

The Carolina RB situation is the most interesting to me out of this batch. Deshaun Foster seems to have the starting role locked up, but his health remains a concern. I wouldn't feel comfortable drafting Foster without Williams, so I'd likely need to spend a pick in the 4th AND 6/7th rounds to get them. That's pretty expensive, but potentially worth it if Williams is a competent fill-in if/when Foster gets hurt.

Will add stats to justify these opinions later...

Bush/McAllister: Actually I'm in a 3-man keeper and I am expansion team. I have the opportunity to keep Harrison/C. Taylor/J. Lewis/R. Bush/D. Foster. It's PPR and I'm going with Harrison/C. Taylor/Bush. I have the 14th pick in our 14 team league. So in essence I'm getting Bush as 3.14. That is good value IMO. Hey at worst I can either end up with Bush as RB2 or move him for another top flite WR. I think taking Bush in the 3rd is the smart move. 2nd is too high. Deuce is presenting less value and IMO you could get him as late as the 6th round. Either way Deuce seems to be on the way down and Bush up as long as these 2 are on the same team.

Dillon/Maroney: On the opposite end I think Dillon in the 4th this season is value. I think he'll bounce back big and in no-ppr leagues he could finish well in the top 20 RBs. Maroney is good and yes I saw the ATL game, but Dillon will get the rock down at the goaline and also 75% of the other time IMO. Maroney, if there's an injury to Dillon is good value, but I can't see taking him higher than 7th round, but to draft him you need to go at least this high and unless you are in a keeper league he wont be worth it this season, IMO.

Foster/Williams: Ahh my favorite RB combo this year. I think if you can lock up the Carolina backfield with picks in the 4th and 7th round you've got a solid RB2 maybe RB1. I think the ceiling can only get higher in Carolina. Foster will slip due to injury, but if you can lock them up that late they will be more than worth it. Carolina's rushing schedule is the 2nd easiest from what I've read. Foster is a beast, if he can stay healthy or if he can't Carolina's rb will produce #'s this year. I will not pass on him in the 4th no way.

Sorry this is all opinion.
