I've been a member since the old yeller boards and MRfootball.com I have never seen so many WDIS or WDIpickup posts in the shark pool. We need to get responsible posters to just start reporting the heck out of this. The shark pool is like the yellow river in China with all the pollution in here.

Who's with me on this? There are some great posters but their posts get lost in the deluge of crap! I am going to make it my mission to start reporting everything. I hate to be a tattle tale but I honestly believe the Pool is on the verge of collapse under the sheer weight of the stupidity of these posts.

I completely agree about the WDIS threads, both open and disguised, being a burden on the Pool. I think most everyone can agree that this is the case, as its been commented on here many times. Reporting is a great option, and one that should definitely be used, but I'm not quite sure its enough.Another avenue that we might explore is looking into ways to make the AC better. That place has no traffic sometimes, and its often difficult to get answers, even if you do "leave a link" in a response to someone else. I'd estimate about a 40-50% return rate on this, which, while not horrible, does show room for improvement. The rate is dramatically lower if you ask a question with a crown.

I honestly don't have any great ideas, but it seems to me like the best way to get people out of the SP and into the AC is to make them WANT to go there, not to FORCE them to.

Hi Folks,

Definitely keep reporting posts as I've asked you to. I think this has been working well.

With that said, we have to be careful that every single post doesn't get pushed to the AC.

For example, the is Vernon Davis's value enough that he's a viable TE is not really an AC question. That question applies to all owners.

That's sort of the line - if the post applies specifically to your team or your league, it needs to be AC.

If it's a post that might have discussion about something that applies to the whole group (like is Vernon Davis maybe not the bust and is he worth a roster spot in most leagues) that can be good Shark Pool material.

A good rule of thumb is that nobody cares about your league. But if you can have a topic where people can discuss it and it applies to them, that's SP stuff.

But keep reporting the stuff you see and we'll sort it out.

Thanks.

J

I am with you 100% Sabertooth! The majority of threads started seem to be asking "Do you think player A or player B has more value"? That is little more than a disguised who do I start, and it is becoming ridiculous!

On a side note, the Assistant Coach Forum is a ghost town for anyone that is looking for help, and it would help to find a way to "spruce it up".

I agree that making the AC forum better is a better solution than just reporting everyone. Right now, the AC forum consists of a few people who answer questions willingly while the majority simply post and hope someone will answer without any effort on their part.

Let me start a question answering service over there. $1.50 Paypal per question.

I can handle the WDIS, WDIpickup, Trades, Relationships, Finance, Political, Computer science, and how do I grill ____ questions.

why not issue a short-term ban to anyone who muddies the shark pool with a garbage thread? (say, 1 week?)
This is just a negative way to enforce. Why not try to find a positive way to solve the situation? There could be a couple mods in the AC forum checking whether people are just posting their question and vanishing or sticking around and helping. Why not ask people in this forum to head over to the AC forum a few times a week and just answer 2-3 posts? Banning and/or ignoring is not helpful to the overall health of this site.

we have different outlooks on the nature of people. you take the position that people are naturally good and helpful. i don't. i think that people who post in AC tend to answer posts in AC and people who don't post there, don't tend to go there to answer questions (exceptions of course). the SP has WAY more volume than AC, and should be protected. a 1 week ban isn't going to spell the end of the world for a poster - just a deterrent to stop them from making the same mistake.

Like others have said, I think it's partly due to not many people being active in the ACF. It's a ghost town on most days and some people may be frustrated with the lack of response and therefore try to disguise questions in the SP.

Obviously that's not the case in all of the WDIS, WDI pick up, type threads here in the SP, but simply reporting all these threads isn't the solution to the problem. Yes, it should help remove some of the clutter, but if all the same people who are reporting the threads took 15-20 minutes everyday to go into the ACF to answer some of the threads there that might help the situation, too.

I'm not saying that nobody in this thread doesn't do that, but if more people took a few minutes to answer some of the threads in the ACF it certainly wouldn't hurt.

Maybe footballguy contributers should make it a policy to only answer these types of posts if they are in the AC .. including the thinly veiled "who has more value ones." But then guys like Joe must go to the AC and respond to some of those questions as it seems that most of the footballguy contributers do not regularly contribute in the AC forum.

Another FF site I use has a service as part of their premium package where you get their 'experts' to answer your 'rate my team', 'rate this trade', WDIS, WDI pickup. You can also buy 5 questions for $9.95. They get back to you within a day or two.

The AC is a ghost town and even if you do get an answer to a question it's hard to know whether to trust the result. If one of the FBG staff was answering the questions, I'd buy a 5 pack and use them throughout the season. FBG could solve the problem of the garbage posts on the SP, the AC being useless and make some $$ all with one fix.

What do you say Joe?

The SP used to be a daily read and AC posts never bothered me. Now days the actual content usually isn't worth the effort of sorting through the tool and complainer posts to get to anything informative. Not sure how you fix that but truthfully the whole thing probably needs a reboot.

Do you really want advise from someone who can't even figure out their own lineup?

Very rarely does the AC forum appeal to me as a place to post a question because FBG give you plenty of tools and resources to make an informed decision WITHOUT needing detailed advice.

Asking people who post there to answer other questions posted there is like the blind leading the blind IMO.

There are a few posters who do answer the questions (some are FBG staff) and that is great, but so many of the questions asked in the AC are simply judgment calls that could be argued either way.

The AC forum is a nice idea and just like the SP, it is not easy to control the quality of the posts because the board is accesible to ALL, not just subscribers.

Is it possible to limit a few of the boards to "subscribers only"?

One of the more ironic points here is that your thread is a Honda. Way to keep the SP clean :goodposting:

Swimming against the current here...

Here's the way I see it. I actually love the WDIS, etc posts. If there is a thread discussing a player I have an interest in, I'll read it. It helps me by getting other people's opinions about a specific player or players. I could really care less about your league and who you are starting, but do care about the responses.

The threads I could REALLY care less about are:

The "I need XX points from So and So tonight, what do you need?" post.

The "So and So blew his knee out, what is his value next year" post.

I DO love the "veto this trade?" posts. They are great for a laugh during the middle of the day.

Keep 'em coming folks.

Here are the posts I hate the most, and they're occuring more and more frequently in here:

Topic: What is Kevin Jones' value going forward?

Post: I like Jones going forward. I have Parker, A Green, and Jones as my top 3 RB's in my one league. It's ppr so I think Jones has more value than Green in that league. In my dynasty league, I traded MJD 2 weeks ago for Jones.
Note to these posters: No one cares about your team. Please stop posting this crud.

Looking at the front page of the Shark Pool, I see very little AC material. "Antonio Gates value" is a little in that territory, but worded pretty neutrally and with some decent discussion. "Any news on Ben Watson" probably qualifies as disguised AC material. Other than that, it's all pretty much solid Shark Pool content, except for this thread.

Solution: Quit whining.

Agreed. Nobody cares. And if you see stuff like this, take 2 seconds to report and we'll get it out of here as quickly as we can. That's the answer.Thanks.

A good rule of thumb is that nobody cares about your league. But if you can have a topic where people can discuss it and it applies to them, that's SP stuff.

But keep reporting the stuff you see and we'll sort it out.

Thanks.

I believe the better disquised threads don't mention anything about their team or league. One thing that would clean up the Shark Pool would be to move any thread that says "Who do you like better for the rest of the season _____________ or _____________ ? "(fill in the blank with your WW scrub, or players you have involved in trade discussions, or players that you are unsue who to start). Or the who do you like better for dynasty questions, when in fact it probably is a who should I pick off the WW question.

Any new registrant should have to undergo a tutorial on how to properly use this forum. In addition the "Threads that are asking for advice on how you should draft or manage your team belong in The Assistant Coach forum." that is pinned toward the top of the Shark Pool should be larger, bolded, and highlighted to make it stand out more.

These judgement call are exactly why people are posting the question. If people just zip over and answer 3-5 AC questions when they are on the boards then maybe the AC would take off and be another source of information for those who are not subscribers. I have done it in the past.

Wheelhouse and MoP are names I see when I glance over to the AC that go on for about an hour or so and answer questions. And just about any of those guys will answer questions if you PM them. Im sure there are more, but those are the ones I see often.I agree that SPers should go over there more once in a while to answer a couple of questions here and there.

Asking for advice does not imply the person is stupid. That is like saying a doctor who can't cure/fix themselves isn't worth their weight. It is like saying you shouldn't go to a psychologist because they might also struggle with their own mental illnesses. We rely on one another for help. Nothing is wrong with that.

Ahh I see I'm not the only who actually likes some of these posts. In fact its downright interesting the lengths some people will go to try to get an "opinion".....any opinion. Its become an art for some people. .

:goodposting: Anyone on any of these boards who says they have never asked a friend about a lineup question is either lying or missing a huge opportunity. Hell, I'll do it even if I'm sure just to start a conversation. Talking about fantasy is as much, if not more, fun than the actual playing. The AC is useful, but I really only see use in bulk, which is what its missing. One or two people's opinions is pretty worthless to me, but getting many can lead me to research and re-think my opinion if I disagree. It'd be nice to have something where people could post actual trades they made, or waiver adds/drops, and be able to judge current value that way ( maybe if it was subscriber content, to keep the spammers out ). CBS started something like that this year, and its pretty nice. Would be hard to deal with differences in leagues and scoring, but could be useful nonetheless.

Sign me up for the quit whining posse. I don't mind properly worded ACF-type questions here at all. And, as was stated earlier, the ACF is a ghost town. Maybe we should all be forced to do some community service time over there.
