How high? How light?

I've asked Brendan of Turnstile to be my fashion guide in all things current and au courant, but he never responded.

So how high the hem line? And how light are we going?

Are we going Brooklyn Steel or Unleaded?

(I purchased unleaded. Still cooking with gas, but safer gas.)

Do @offdee and @Major even post here anymore?

I'm looking for Major, and he ain't here. Need some ridix pics. Offdee is here for the pics that rhyme with ridix if it ever gets to that.

I know, I know. Offdee has never sent ridix picks in his life.

We just need some 501s, baby.

A little bit local, a little bit average.

Levi’s 569s the ones that are like 99% cotton 1% elastane (I’m fat so I like the little bit of stretch)

I have a black pair and a blue pair, mostly wear the blue, probably wear them like 2 weeks between washes

My go to’s are Neuw and Joe’s (Kinetic Luxe version). :style:
I have a couple pairs of Joe's that my wife's picked up for me (including that Kinetic thing just a couple months ago). I don't dig the fit... but I'll accept some responsibility for that.

I've basically given up... so it's just whatever jeans I have in my drawer. and then whatever the wife gets me. ..I've completely lost track of any new brands, basically since Hogan and Rag & Bone.

Uniqlo's version of selvedge denim are like $15 more than crap jeans, and are excellent.
oh... right- I have a few Uniqlo pairs as well. I don't even think the selvedge version. the ones I have are fine. ... sigh. I've given up.
I was getting something in Uniqlo, and saw their selvedge (has some stretch in them). I did a quick search with the Reddit denim nerds, and bought a pair. $60, have them two years, they are my go-to, and they look like a Toyota at 20,000 miles. Unreal bargain.

sigh. I've given up.

We're either almost fifty or over fifty. We're allowed that. Within reason.

I'm even worried that my new jeans might be a little high in the hem for me, even if they're in style. Too high for a fifty year old to pull off without looking like a heel.

Naw, they're basically at the bottom of my foot. I'm just not stepping on the back like i always used to.

"But, but Brendan from Turnstile!"

Abandoning fashion chasing is fine - it's all marketing anyway.

IMO, it's unacceptable to give up on maintaining a healthy body, and mindset, a part of which is decent hygiene and well-fitting clothing.

Given up on what? Fashion?
yes. I was all in until about 10 years ago... and decline has been gradual, but I've realized two things: I can't afford to wear what I like. I don't fit what I like. I don't have time to find what I like. I don't even have the energy to clock what's current/in-trend- and I'm surrounded outside my door in NYC with what's current/in-trend. ok..3ish things.

Given up on what? Fashion?

I assumed it meant fashion, or trying to be current and hip, or other such things that are indicators of youth.

eta* I only answered because I didn't want it to seem like I was being callous. I thought of it purely that way, not of giving up in general.

I don't think anyone is fooled by middle aged dudes trying to be fashionable, nor do they expect it. But keeping a healthy mind and body, covered with simple clothes that fit, won't ever go out of style.

I don’t either. I’ve always found them uncomfortable to wear.

They really can be, I remember when khakis were big and I enjoyed the fabric of those against my skin much more than your average jean back then. But jeans now are a little different. Softer, strechier with man-made materials should they be 1% elastine or spandex or the like.

I've got your fashion problem right here.

If it's not causing physical duress or questioning in middle age, it's not fashionable.

See: El Floppo's last comment about fit. And Floppo was once fabulously fashionable, I presume.

The physical duress caused by fashionable things is the internal search we make for a secular God.

There. I said it. Fashion is existential pain.

That's what I really wanted to say with this thread.

(Naw, I just want to know if my new jeans are too highwater-ish when I sit down.)

this.

I cared... genuinely cared... about style (fashion or otherwise) my entire life. HS kids thought I was gay because of it- despite the girlfriends. I became an architect and married a fashion designer fer chrissakes. the kids diverted a lot of my energy and now common mid-life crisis stuff diverts the rest. I just don't have the bandwidth for fashion any more... even though design is still my life.

I too have taken 2" off the inseam but since I buy Levi's mostly and they print the size on the label I and I'm now fatter, I think the W/L ratio is terrible now. Maybe I should take the labels off my old pairs and put them on my new ones like Jerry.

Meh. Doing something physically stressful, all out, type 2 fun, will really help you understand why God lets you suffer.

And while you'll stop worrying about the jeans, they'll fit better, too.

Give me fitness over fashion any day.

That's hilarious. Genuine LOL. I was going to print my waist/inseam here, but decided against it. It's not pretty.

But don't forget! I'm talking highwaters here!

There's your problem with my whole existential pain thing. Assume no God. That's where fashion and its reverence comes in. Imagine a less-cloying and stereotypical Bruno coming in to tell you about God and fashion. (Bruno the outrageous Sacha Baron Cohen character.)
