Let's talk Kevin Jones (1 Viewer)

He's scored two weeks in a row. He's clearly a better all around player than Bell, but he plays on a team that throws on a ridiculous percentage of their plays. When does he crack your starting lineup? This week against Washington? After the week 6 bye when he plays the Bucs? I like Kevin as a productive flex player or a weaker RB2.

When do you guys think he starts taking the lion's (get it  ) share of carries away from Bell. If he got the full load, I can see him being a viable RB2.

I'd probably wait until week 7, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him produce 100+ yards of offense per game (70-75 yards rushing and 25-30 yards receiving) in the second half of the season. I definitely think he'll be a main target in the red zone (especially goaline) once he gets fully integrated into the offense. But then again, I'm probably just an optimistic KJ owner hoping to salvage my season :goodposting:

With Westy on bye, I might start him this week. I could go with Julius Jones instead (He did score this week) but I doubt I will. If Brandon Jacobs is back I might play him. It looks like KJ or BJ alongside Henry.

I agree as I have caddy ahead of him. How is he feeling though? any reports of discomfort? is he still hampered by they injury or just trying to convince martz to send him out there more? Can any "detwah" homers chime in?

Last week. He has two more TDs than my former RB2, MJD :wall:
 Actually, I played him this weekend because I had Ahman Green, Boldin, and Walker OUT and MJD on a BYE. Didn't have much choice. Luckily, I'd locked up the win before the late game because I had Westy in my line-up and no other options left on my bench... oh, and I started Caddie, too. Really glad week 4 is in the rear-view mirror.

When he starts getting more than 10 carries a game
:goodposting: TD's are just too difficult to predict and with KJ only getting a handful of carries, you may be wise to leave him on the bench until Week 7, right after the bye. I don't think KJ will ever get 25 carries in a game this year, and may not even crack 20, but he'll have a lot of games with 14-18 carries for 60-90 yards, and will score often enough to make him valuable. Calvin Johnson has turned that offense from average to very dangerous. Naturally, KJ will get more TD's with the added focus on that star studded receiving crew.

KJ just looks so much stronger than TaterTot..plus Tater coughed it up inside the five yesterday.

Week 5 as I took a hit on Jordan, Caddy and Harrison this week and got scooped on D. Rhodes and E. Graham

Due to a bye week and having to start 3 RB's I started him last week. I will continue to start him as well.

with alex and bush, i think kj gets 1 week on the bench, but i havent studied the matchups yet... kj will be a player that wins a lg for many owners this yr---because of where he was drafted. steal of draft! SOD!

Guru is correct - KJ looked every bit his old self against the Bears and his TD run was nice - toss, one quick cutback and a shoulder into the DB for 6. I'd be surprised if Tater got any more looks inside the 10 due to that fumble, which kept the Bears going before the wheels fell off the wagon.

KJ fumbled according to the boxscore I saw last night.. looked like it was recovered but wanted to make see if anybody saw what he did to put it on the carpet

I am curious about this too. I saw Bell's fumble but missed KJs.

It was hard to see because it was in the middle of a pile of players. The announcers didn't even see it right away and they never showed a good replay.

I respect most posters here and will probably get a few comments about my contribution from the know-it-alls, but here goes:

I jumped on KJ because he was available at a relatively cheap price. The offense is explosive but not so much for a RB. That being said, RB is a very tough position this year. RBBC is killing a lot of us everywhere. I've really scaled back this year and I am only competing in a very experienced 10 team redraft with one keeper. The league has been around since the early 1990's. I struggle in this small league. In a 16 teamer I excell, in a dynasty I excell. For the life of me I cannot identify the value at RB or WR from the 15th best to the 50th best.

My big thing is where do you rank the likes of:

KJones

Graham

Rhodes

LWhite

CBrown

Fargas

Maroney

Some of those guys face tough schedules and have injured Olinemen. Some face softer schedules but are facing a goaline vulture, it's tough. I'm hanging on to KJ and hoping he sees a few more looks. I like Rhodes but with the bye, uncertainty with Jordan's injury and the role of Fargas???? You can't dismiss the tds just like you can't take that one long 70 yard run away from the back that goes for 130 and a td BUT if you take that one TD from KJ, he hasn't done much. ??? How do we rank these WW gems?

im trying to gage his value currently...I think he can be a very solid #2RB if used correctly, I just wonder if Martz will use him enough. I have hopes that K.Jones will be used like Addai is. Just hit him off tackle 15-20 times a game for 5 yard pops and Red Zone work. Plus the 3-5 rec a game.

Do you think my Expectaions are too high or just right?

That's exactly what I'm hoping for. Have been sitting on him a few weeks and figure on unveiling him after the bye.

People talk about his limited number of carries (at full strength) being well under 25 and quite possibly under 20.

That said, this is a BIG PLAY offense. They will have many scoring opportunities, and their pass emphasis creates huge opportunities for KJ even with 17 carries a game.

In addition, KJ will get a number of pass receptions which also can go for long gains. The combination of his receptions plus carries is close to most full time backs' touches and even if it is slightly less, those touches present great opportunity for big gains and scores.

Personally, I see week 7 for KJ as an active part of my rotation (but I don't see him playing ahead of Portis at this point, unless Portis gets hurt)

just ran across this...so I'll assume this increases his value slightly

Lions placed RB Brian Calhoun on injured reserve with a knee injury, ending his season.

The extent of Calhoun's new injury wasn't revealed, but he is believed to have re-injured the ACL he tore in practice as a 2006 rookie. Calhoun was never at full strength as a sophomore. He's uncertain to make the Lions in 2008

He went from what, 3 carries to 10 carries? He's still working himself into shape. A few weeks ago, we didn't think he would be playing yet.

This week probably looks a lot like last week. After the bye, I think the average week will be something like 13 carries, 5 receptions, give or take.

In theory, safetys will spend most plays double covering Roy Williams and Calvin Johnson, so Jones should be able to provide good receiving yardage. Not many LBs can cover him. And with the beating Kitna is taking, one would think they will start running more screens to slow down the pass rush.

I'm more concerned about Duckett becoming the goal line back later in the season than I am Tatum Bell keeping KJ on the bench.

You really think KJ will only get 13 carries in an average week? even with Martz, I think that figure is 4-5 carries short.

Kitna and KJ collided on the handoff, the ball went down and bounced right back up in his hands, he then picked up a few yards.

Another wasted early pick!

He averaged 15 carries per game last season. 14 per game in 2005. Playing in pain with Bell and Duckett there, 13 per game for the remainder of the season sounds reasonable.

Fair enough, however last year the team was getting creamed. Now they will have the lead at times and while we all know Martz hates to run, I would expect 15+ at least, but we are starting to split hairs, perhaps.

I think there might be some good running lanes as the Lions progress through their season. Martz wants to lok like a genius...but he also wants another head coaching job. If the Lions make the playoffs, he's got one. If teams have to cover Roy, Calvin, Furrey and McDonald, there will be running room. They'll have to take advantage of that. Last year it was really just Roy and Furrey.

There's only one football, but in the interests of keeping Kitna alive and actually having a winning record, I think KJ gets a good amount of work once he's totally comfortable.

I posted this in another Jones thread but can't find it now but from 1999-2001 Faulk had an average of 16 carries a game and an average of 5 catches a game.

Same OC, same offense, similar type RBs. I don't think you can ask for anymore than these average touches per game.

2 weeks ago in a 16 team league with ahman green injured and mjd doing nothing

was perfect timing actually with the green injury

Assuming 12-15 carries and 2-3 receptions this week....what type of numbers can you expect against the Skins?
I am thinking 12 carries for 40 rushing yds, 3 receptions for 30 yards and .6 TDs. I am really hoping he scores a TD since with the bye week for ADP I have to move him to my #2RB slot.
