Yes, ha ha.Or he wanted to follow the coach that recruited him. Kids are funny like that.Well, it sounds like he was overcome by the rich tradition and cultural importance of Penn State football. Attitudes like his are the main reason why we cheer for these talented amateurs.Chance Sorrell changes from Vandy to Penn State.

I have officially opened up my recruitment and I have officially committed to Penn State University! We are...Penn State!
Considering how influential Vanderbilt OL coach Herb Hand certainly was to Sorrell's recruitment, this is as good a sign as any that he will join Franklin's staff at Penn State--he had been buzzed about as a candidate to replace him at Vandy--which is a very, very good thing for the Nittany Lions.
I see very few BOB recruits de-committing with Franklin being the guy now, and an added bonus is maybe he can get some of his Vandy recruits to now head to Happy Valley.
Agree...He was a big-time recruiter with really strong ties to the NYC and DC area. Seems Franklin has some in's in the DC/MD/VA area from his time with Maryland, but we're going to be weaker in the NYC area with that loss...doesn't help that he's now pulling those same guys to OSU though.Losing Larry Johnson sucks, especially considering he is going to tOSU. :X
Technically, they didn't "steal" anything. The recruits changed where they were going to go to school and play ball.Penn State stealing recruits from Vanderbilt and happy about it. Who thought they would ever see that day?
I suspect some D line recruits will be going to Ohio State now, if they want them. I assume Thomas Holley follows him there.Technically, they didn't "steal" anything. Agreed. I guess it's fair play given what we did to Vandy's recruiting class, but it stings more that it's OSU...truthfully, anywhere else and I wouldn't care.I suspect some D line recruits will be going to Ohio State now, if they want them. I don't think Franklin was going to retain him.So why did LJ leave and go to basically our biggest rival now?!
I've read several stories that stated Franklin/PSU offered LJ his current position and he declined. My guess is he was pissed about not being offered the HC job, or at least a coordinator position.I don't think Franklin was going to retain him.So why did LJ leave and go to basically our biggest rival now?!
Can't really blame the guy. He's been good, one of the best in his role, but he hasn't moved up to even DC. If he's got any ambition to eventually be a HC, it was time for him to go find another path. Same thing as Tom Bradley really...Basically, the fact that they didn't offer him HC after Paterno said that the guy that many felt was "being groomed to take over," wasn't ever going to get the job...at least not at PSU.I've read several stories that stated Franklin/PSU offered LJ his current position and he declined. No, you can't really blame him. I was just pointing out to the previous poster that Franklin did indeed plan to retain him. Can't really blame the guy. It is odd, but I assume that's pretty standard. Gotta figure all this type of stuff is done by a PR person at this point.RUSF18 said:I like Franklin but found it pretty strange that he decided to take out an ad thanking the Vandy community...but then had it feature an enormous picture of him smiling.
#### yeah. We obviously have to wait and see what Franklin actually does at PSU, but right now I couldnt be happier that BOB decided to leave.First 2014 pump up video.

I agree, but I think BOB was great for his time there. But I'm very excited to see how Franklin continues with the torch.#### yeah. We obviously have to wait and see what Franklin actually does at PSU, but right now I couldnt be happier that BOB decided to leave.First 2014 pump up video.
BOB did as well as humanly possible I think. His timing seems to have turned our perfect too. I was annoyed that he left initially, but it looks like the right guy was available at the right time to replace him. Koa was a stud on both sides of the ball in high school, and has many different listings for his position on various recruiting websites. He is listed as a safety, linebacker, quarterback, wide receiver, and of course, athlete. For Penn State however, it appears that his likely positional destination is safety. Although the class already includes Marcus Allen and Trace McSorely, for a team that started Jesse Della Valle at safety last season once or twice, depth in the defensive backfield is always welcomed (No disrespect to you JDV, love you kid). He still has some work to do on the defensive side of the ball, but he has all the physical skills to be a powerful force patrolling the deep zones. For more analysis on Farmer's college potential, check out this SBN article from December.
Farmer will be enrolling at Penn State at an ideal time to help this team early on in his career. He is a dynamic athlete who could pair with Marcus Allen to form a formidable safety duo in the future (Don't forget McSorely, either). While it's easy to see what attracted Koa to Penn State, it's still pretty exciting to see a Californian ready to travel out to State College, where we had temperatures below 0 twice last week. Seeing Penn State pull a 4* recruit away from Cal is certainly an exciting pull, and Penn State fans everywhere should be very excited to have him.
Koa Farmer's commitment brings the Penn State class to 22.
Worked all day, but hopefully we stuck around this point. Pretty damn good considering we still have the restrictions.21st rated class at this point. Any surprises coming today?
Whoa, thats crazy. But its so far between now and then it can be hard to predict how many verbal committments actually stick. I think a successful year this season (3 losses or less?) would do wonders on that happening. Two more 4-star recruits this weekend (OL from NJ and a LB from Indiana) for the class of 2015. Penn State's 2015 recruiting class now stands at #2. I've read that one more 4-star recruit in the class will push them to #1. Amazing.![]()

BUT I DIDN'T SEE ANY OF THE REST OF YOU GUYS WILLING TO THROW A NUMBER OIT.
Hmph.
Where's he gonna find 15 pretty girls in Pennsylvania? This may not be good.
A new defense filing in the case involving rape charges against four former Vanderbilt players claims that current Penn State coach James Franklin contacted the alleged victim shortly after the incident, according to a report in the Tennessean.
Defense attorneys for Brandon Vandenburg -- one for four former Commodores charged with five counts of aggravated rape stemming from an alleged on-campus assault against a 21-year-old female student last June -- asked the the court to dismiss the charges because the prosecution failed to preserve key evidence.
In the filing, the defense says Franklin and strength coach Dwight Galt -- who left Vandy for the same jobs at Penn State this winter -- talked to the alleged victim four days after the rape during a medical examination.
Franklin and Galt told the victim "that they cared about her because she assisted them with recruiting," according to the filing. Later, the defense said, "Coach Franklin called her in for a private meeting and told her he wanted her to get 15 pretty girls together and form a team to assist with the recruiting even though he knew it was against the rules. He added that all the other colleges did it."
Franklin, when reached by phone on Tuesday, repeatedly said he was "not interested in talking."
The other former players charged with rape in the case are Cory Batey, Brandon Eric Banks and Jaborian McKenzie.
Does anybody else have a hard time believing that a coach would go into that level of detail give the proposed circumstances?Coach Franklin called her in for a private meeting and told her he wanted her to get 15 pretty girls together and form a team to assist with the recruiting even though he knew it was against the rules. He added that all the other colleges did it.
The deputy district attorney prosecuting the case puts a different spin on Franklin's involvement. This may not be good.
