Let's Talk Penn State Football (2 Viewers)

First road win in a while.  This team is rapidly gaining both experience and confidence.

First time scoring 60+ since 2008.

First time scoring 60+ against a Big Ten opponent since 2005.

Those 2005 & 2008 teams both went on to win the conference.

Just sayin'...
Yup, just sayin'... :D

#12 in the initial rankings.

My father already texting me with the following:

Run the table.

Michigan loses @iowa and @ohiostate..

Win in Indianpolis.

I think he's already got the tickets to Pasadena in hand  :lmao: :lmao:

PSU has to get by Iowa too. :oldunsure:

Hey joffer...Just curious how you feel about McSorley now after a few more games.  I'm not asking tongue-in-cheek after a big win.  I'm genuinely curious as to whether or not he's growing on the skeptics.

And I'm still glowing this morning.
More impressed all the time.  He turns two yard losses into 3 yard gains.  His passes aren't the prettiest but they get there.

You're right about his throws.  They're not always pretty, but this group of skill position players is just so good.

As mentioned above, this defense has become nasty.

After seeing Florida lose yesterday and assuming that Nebraska would lose to OSU, I was thinking before the game that Penn State could be a top 10 team.  I thought to myself that Penn State was good, but I didn't know about "top ten" good.  I might have been wrong.  I don't know what happened after Michigan, but this Maryland-OSU-Purdue-Iowa run has shown that this team might just be really, really good.

I believe I read the if the Big Ten champion (Michigan) goes to the playoff, then the Big Ten representative to the Rose Bowl is up to the Rose Bowl selection committee.  Is that correct?

You've got to think that if Michigan beats OSU and Penn State wins out, Penn State goes to the Rose Bowl, right?  Or is there an unspoken rule that the Rose picks the title game loser?  I'd have to think the Rose would want Penn State over a 3 or 4 loss Nebraska or Wisconsin.

no way the Rose rips Wisconsin's annual trip to the Outback Bowl out from under them like that.

Can someone please explain to me what happened to this team at halftime of the Minnesota game? It's like the light bulb suddenly came on for players and coaches alike.

Let's stipulate that unbeaten Michigan defeats 10-2 Wisconsin for the Big Ten championship; that Penn State and Ohio State finish 10-2; and that Nebraska, with a loss to Ohio State this week, finishes 10-2 as well.

Michigan heads to the College Football Playoff, leaving the Rose Bowl to choose a Big Ten replacement. Here's how the conference defines the Rose Bowl selection procedures in that case.

"Rose Bowl Game has sole discretion on replacement team, and will generally select highest-rated available team," according to the Big Ten, "but will take into consideration final College Football Playoff rankings, head-to-head competition, division champions and most recent Rose Bowl Game appearances."

Based on the current CFP rankings, the Rose Bowl would be expected to consider Ohio State (No. 6), Wisconsin (No. 8) or Nebraska (No. 10) before Penn State. But two criteria favor Penn State.

The Lions have a win over Ohio State, which has beaten Wisconsin and plays Nebraska on Saturday. In choosing between Penn State and Ohio State, the Rose Bowl could make that head-to-head game a deciding factor.

In a decision between Penn State and Wisconsin, the Badgers could point to their West Division title. But the committee also might remember that Wisconsin played in three consecutive Rose Bowls from 2011-13, losing all three.

Penn State hasn't been to the Rose Bowl in eight years (Nebraska not since 2002). How important is getting a new face to Pasadena? The decision will be more complicated than merely selecting the highest-ranked team available.

Should Penn State finish 10-2, Athletic Director Sandy Barbour could deliver a compelling PowerPoint to the Rose Bowl committee. Penn State would bring an eight-game win streak, one of the nation's most exciting players in Saquon Barkley and a ticket-buying fan base thrilled at the team's unexpected revival.

As outlandish as that might have sounded in September, it's not a reach anymore. At 10-2, Penn State is a viable candidate for one of the New Year's Bowls. Even the Rose.

Something tells me OSU is going to end up handing Michigan it's first loss for some reason.  So I'm going to say they don't get to the Rose Bowl but still play a New Year Day bowl game.

If that comes to pass, one guy I saw this morning says PSU goes to the Cotton Bowl...to play SD State.

Wouldn't surprise me.  I'm sure the national media still wants to keep our cultured ways off the mainstream as much as possible.
As we've seen many, many times, :moneybag:  trumps prejudice and morals.

If there's $10 more bucks to be made with PSU playing on NYD, it will happen.

What was funny was during the Georgia - Auburn game, Gary Danielson said Penn State needs "chaos" to make the CFP. Of course, I :lmao:  on twitter and said we weren't even thinking CFP.

Now? :scared:

I was thinking about this last night.  I kind of hope that circumstances don't get them into the playoff.  Granted, it would take a miracle.  I don't think they're that good or ready for that.  Alabama would make them a laughing stock.

Being in this position as one of the youngest tams in the counrty, though, is freakin' awesome.

There is a lot of business to take care of on their own before then. Indiana made them look terrible at times yesterday. They ran that option sweep like 10 times and I don't think it went for positive yardage more than once.

Yeah, that's why I'd be OK with a B1G championship and a trip to the Rose Bowl.

And if they ran it the 11th time I was going to go Elvis on my TV.

The O-Line injuries are starting to take there toll but with a solid week of practice and hopefully not a too tall task of Rutgers they should be up to snuff by the time MSU rolls in to Beaver Stadium.

It'd be great to see them in the national title game but I am not looking that far down the road.  Lots of chips need to fall right still.  Not to mention, as good as I think this team is I'd think Bama would lay a thumping on them.

Yeah, this is pretty much spot on. Still, just to even be in the conversation is a huge step.

I go back and forth on where I want them to end up.  I don't want to see them get walloped in the CFP.  When you watch retrospectives on the 86 Championship team, though, the always talk about what a motivating factor it was to lose to Oklahoma the year before.  So, maybe it wouldn't be a bad thing.

I think I've settled on wanting a Big Ten title, a Rose Bowl win, and a Top 5 finish.

Ask me again tomorrow, though.

Same here, the road to the national championship game has about 3 or 4 blown out bridges on it.  It's just not going to happen.  I'd love for BCS game and win then go into next year with basically the same squad and possible favorite to make the College Playoff at least.

IMO we're playing with house money right now. We set at #8 in the CFP poll which is great. If they win out, they'll most assuredly stay in the top 10 and get a NYD bowl game. If OSU beats UM and they win out, we go to the B1GCC game. If UM beats the Suckeyes, the latter are out of the CFP with 2 losses. WIn - win in my book.

Word, never expected this team to go 10-2.  Things are looking bright for the program moving forward.

BTW, loving me some No. 8.  #WeAre
The Fall just feels better when PSU is relevant. I was thinking before the OSU game just how boring fall has been these last 4 or 5 years. I barely even watch college football anymore. I was wondering who the new coach would be next year. Then boom!!! We have a season.

Yes, ever since "IT" happened I've pretty much been pretty disinterested in college football.  I just could never find rooting interest with any other team other than PSU.  Very happy to see them back where they belong.

This year has definitely been fun to watch and experience.  The team has gained confidence and experience by the week and as Franklin said after the Indiana game is finding different ways to win.

I'm reminded of something JVP used to say, though:  “You're never as good as you think you are when you win; and you're never as bad as you feel when you lose.”

After the last couple of years ending on losing streaks and sour notes, I'd be happy to just end this one on a winning streak and try to carry some mojo into 2017.  In addition to the usual suspects (Sparty, UM, OSU all of which happen to be in a row next year), we pick up Nebraska again.

It's good to have something to be hopeful about again in Happy Valley.

One of the seven teams ahead of us in the BCS standings just lost (Louisville).

OSU & Michigan play one another which should take care of a 2nd.

That leaves five...with a decent chance we get to play one of them ourselves (Wisconsin).
