Let's Talk Penn State Football (1 Viewer)

Welp, no dice on the Playoff but man what a hell of a season.  Very proud of those f**kers...or fighters :D

I didn't think they deserved to get in to the CFP.  It was very very close though.  I think if we beat Pitt then we are 4th.  This team is still pretty young but has immense talent and are playing absolutely awesome right now.  Never thought in a zillion years they'd be playing in the Rose Bowl.  I'm glad it's USC.  I want another shot at them ever since they lost to them last time in the Rose Bowl.  i think Mahon should be back on the line for this game.  I am guessing they'll be a TD dog in this game.  Keep on doubting this team pundits.  I can't wait until Dec 2nd.  WE ARE!

You are probably right.  Most folks think the National Championship playoffs are not going to be very interesting since Bama should crush any of the other 3 teams.

OSU may be the better team but they can't win their conference.  IMO if you don't win your conference then you should be eliminated from the national championship playoff.  Actual play on the field should take precedence over rankings which are subjective and often biased.

That said I hate both PSU and OSU so I have no dog in the fight.

He had a quote from 2006 that said non-conference champions have no business playing for the national championship.

Ah I see....that was under a different system/setup.  I guess you can draw whatever conclusions you want.  The quote itself doesn't mean much to me today unless you have quotes since the playoff started.

 
PSU did have two losses even though they won their conference so I don't think you folks should feel too screwed.  Hell, you guys should be happy about the trajectory and coach your program have.  The comeback has been pretty remarkable.

Also, be aware that I always have, and always will, hate PSU.   Gobbling up all the best recruits from the mid-atlantic region like they owned the place.

Sorry UM can't put together a good program.

I moved to MD in the late 80s. People would get upset with my wearing PSU gear; they said I should wear UM gear since I live there now. I asked, "Why should I switch to a team that sucks?" :lmao:

The different setup that would have ranked the same four teams the exact same way?

In other words, now that it works to OSU's advantage, that quote doesn't mean anything. :lol:  OK....

If you'd have told any PSU fan back in September that we'd consider the Rose Bowl a "consolation prize" we'd have thought you were crazy.  There's not a (non-dilusional) fan in the Nittany Nation that thought we'd be considered for the playoff, and probably not any that thought we would realistically win the B1G Ten either...

I put in a ticket request.  will find out tomorrow if I get them!    Rose Bowl sounds awesome, so I just said WTF lets do it!

Im not sure how the BCS worked it out in 2016 but it doesn't matter. You say he was quoted 10 yrs ago when it was 2 teams, not 4. If it was 4 teams 10 yrs ago, how do you know he'd have had the same stance? I don't think you do.

Cool!   Was there for the 1995 Rose Bowl (after the undefeated 1994 season in our 2nd year in the Big Ten).  It was a great experience. I think you will enjoy it.

Booked airfare, hotel, and rental car yesterday.  Am in the same boat as you, waiting to hear tomorrow if I got my tickets through the NLC.   Rumor has it we have a huge allotment of like 22,000 so I am cautiously optimistic.

If you haven't already, you might want to check out the packages that the Fight On State Scout.com site is offering,  I think they had one earlier today that included staying at the hotel the team will be at (which I think is sold out).

FYI, just heard a rumor that whatever allotment we had has sold out before making it out of the NLC...so for anyone that didn't get tickets through the NLC packages that include tickets might be worth a look.

Hope you find a way out there!

Hey Penn St fans, I am an Oregon native and am a fan of both Oregon schools as I didn't attend either but cheer on my state.  My Dad grew up in Eugene and is a total Ducks homer.  He and I were talking Saturday and agreed that Penn State was probably more deserving of a playoff spot than Washington based on resume.  We also agreed that we feel your current team has paid too much for the sins of past people.  Congrats on an amazing year and good luck in the Rose Bowl.  Two Oregonians are rooting for your team!

Brother and I have flights and hotel in Burbank. Going to find tickets somewhere. Can't wait, always wanted to go to the Rose Bowl. Should have gone in 94.

 
going to look into alumni packages...  any suggestions on best places to stay?  is there good transportation to game/ parade?  I really don't want to rent a car

yep-  I am a season ticket holder so I had pre-sale buying opportunity..  they sold that out and cancelled the alumni open sale..   crazy

Out here in LA LA Land. Lots of PSU fans, although we are near the main hotels. Heading up to the parade in a couple of hours. Can't wait. 

 
In hindsight, we should have planned a FBG get-together for those of us left behind in PA.  With enough planning, we probably could have found a central enough location.

Just kidding.  I don't want to meet any of you.

Dammit!  I'm in Baltimore and would have made the trip up for a Penn St. game watching get-together.
