Lets talk Razors (1 Viewer)

Santa brought the wife and I each a "Harry's" razor. Mine seems nice. I like that it's heavy and seems well made. I only shave 4-5 a month max so I should be able to share the lowest monthly subscription with the wife. Haven't looked into it yet.

one thing i dislike about the DE experience is what happens when i take a break from it. DE is great for everyday shaving but skip more than a day? it's a savage experience shaving again. i didn't shave over the past 4-5 days and took a razor to it this morning. i had more nicks this morning than i might have in a month otherwise.

This sounds like me.  I am still deliberating going to the DE or spending up on the Shick Hydro or Gillette Fusion.

Well, to be fair, I had maybe 4 nicks on the neck. It's solely because I had a four or five day beard going. Otherwise, I don't get a cut usually. The only time I get a cut is when the blade needs to be changed. I put a new blade it - average cost $0.10! - every 3 days.

There are people that choose the DE experience because it gives them a better shave. There are people that are nostalgic for old school masculinity. There are people that into saving cash. I'm practical enough to admit that saving money is a good reason along with the good shave.

I did the double-edged safety razor thing for 10-15 years, on and off, occasionally trying the latest cartridge from Gillette or (more recently) Dorco before going back.

A few months ago, I tried the Dorco Pace 7, and I've stuck with it. It's the best razor I've ever used. There's a surprisingly large difference between the six-blade system and the seven-blade system. The seven-blade cartridge gives a much easier, smoother, closer shave, and the blades last a lot longer as well.

Try the 7. You can use the same handle as the 6 Plus, just get the cartridges for the 7. See if you get the same results I did.

While you're at it, try Cremo. It's very cheap and is the best shaving cream I've used.
Going to give the Pace 7 a shot since theres a pretty good sale going on

I have been doing a daily test with the Pace 7 and the Gillette Fusion ProShield. I started with new razors on each and used the Cremo Shave Cream. I shave half my face with the Pace and the other half with the Gillette. I shave in the same method and and make sure I use the same number of strokes. I then have the wife decide which side feels smoother.  I am 6 days in and the results are as follows:

Can't Tell a difference: 4 times

Pace 7: 2 times

Gillette: 0 Times

Going to keep doing the half/half shave for a month and then have her judge again to see how they held up. Thus far the Pace 7 is the way to go simply due to the 12 razor heads for $12 deals that happen so often. I also like the handle on the Pace 7 better as well. Its not as slippery when it gets wet.

Okay, so I was buying high end razors for a long time until finally I snapped and started buying really, really cheap, inexpensive throw away razors which were utter crap.  I did that for a couple of years just out of pure spite for the stupid expensive blades.  I was one cheap, crappy blade away from dollar shave club when I stumbled upon Member's Mark Duraglide 6 shave system.  These are from Sam's Club.

Before I bought these, I would say at best a blade would last a week and that's with me stropping my razors on an old pair of jeans.  I change the blade out now once a month.  Let me preface that by saying that the last week is rough and I should strop the blade that week but I've become complacent about it. The only caveat I've found is that the handle is cheap and if you drop it on tile (like I've done 2 or 3 times now) it's toast.  So I have a primary and backup handle now.

I've read reviews on these and people to seem to love or hate them, I think that's universal with anything, people's skin is different.  My skin on my face is not particularly sensitive I would say, my hands are but I've never had a problem with these razors.  Again though, I was using the cheapest nastiest blades out of spite for years.  I've been using the MM Duraglide 6 blades for 2 or 3 years now I think.
