Life's Irritations (1 Viewer)

Work aside, what causes you the most irritation in your life? Not looking for pet peeves or political issues, but actual personal issues that bother you.

For me it's simple; clutter. I have a wife and three kids and I cant stand clutter and they seem to make it their mission in life to pile #### up wherever possible. It seems logical to me that besides the mess, it makes life more of a hassel than necessary.

People who think a pet peeve about clutter isn't a personal issue
Of course its personal.

"but actual personal issues that bother you."

My point is, Im not looking for someone complaining about people not signaling a turn or talking on a cell while in line.

Clutter and excessive noise for me. The older I get, the more noise bothers me (TV being louder than it needs to be, people that talk louder than they need to, etc.).

Inconsiderateness in general. It's a broader term than most specific things, but it sums up my biggest irritation. I.e. people who can't think beyond how their action impacts them to think about how it impacts others.

Some examples -

Somebody doesn't bother to push their shopping cart back to the cart station - Now you've blocked a parking space, made some high school kid have to collect your cart, and increased the potential for auto damage because you couldn't be bothered to walk 15 yards with your cart.

Somebody doesn't use their turn signal - Yes, I know it's in the OP's example, but not using it causes people behind you to not know what you're doing or why you're slowing down...all because you're too lazy to flick a stick.

Somebody parks their car in the fire lane of a store parking lot while their SO runs in to get something - You've created a bottle-neck at the busiest point of a store parking lot so you don't have to be bothered to go park in a space like everyone else.

Smokers who aren't even the least bit considerate about their smoke - Pretty obvious. If you want to smoke, that's your prerogative, but be considerate. If there are people eating on an outdoor patio, don't go stand right up wind from them and smoke. I know there are so many laws about where you can smoke these days...they're there because people couldn't be considerate from the start.

I could go on, but you get the point...Think more broadly than just yourself.

My kid gets hungry in the middle of the day, eats a bowl of cereal, and then throws the dirty bowl in the sink. Sometimes he even rinses it out. DUDE! It would take about 10 seconds to actually wash it. And that way at the end of the day, we aren't looking at a sinkful of dirty dishes. Just do them as you go along. It's not that hard.

I couldn't agree more. Or why can't they just rinse it out and put it in the dishwasher? They wouldn't even have to move their feet, and it would take 3 seconds. Drives me nuts.

Why the hell do they think the outdoors is their personal garbage can? Throw their cigarette butts anywhere and everywhere.

Oh man, I have a great cause/effect issue that pissed a lady off today. I went to drop my kid off at daycare and she had parked about a half a foot over the line in to the next space... It was an end space that I was able to pull straight forward into so I pulled in with my passenger side door about 4 inches from her driver side door (I was about 3 inches from the curb on the other side).

It only took me about 2 minutes to drop my kid off but in that time she was there and it looked like she was just about to get in her passenger side. She saw me there and asked me why I parked so close to her. I told her she was parked way over the line (and pointed to it) then told her "It's too bad that your bad parking caused you to be affected by not being able to get in your car". Then got in the car and left. I was so pleased with myself.

People who, especially in heavy traffic, try to push a red light and end up in the middle of the intersection blocking the vehicles going the cross direction.

This disgusts me. The light at the end of the off ramp near my house must have about 1000 butts sitting on the side of the road. It's disgusting. Someone, or some people, are clearly emptying their ashtray out of their car at the light. Why they can't empty it into their own trash is beyond me.

I had a 20+ post argument with a guy in our local newspaper forum after a smoking law passed. He told me flat out that he flicked butts out the window because if he used the ash tray, it would lower the resale value of his car. This is the kind of logic that I'm talking about that just makes me go bonkers.

"I don't want my resale value to go down, but I refuse to not smoke, so I'll just litter instead."

Parking on the line or over it should be ticket worthy.
That's the thing...technically, it IS.

So is changing lanes/turning w/o using your signal

So is cruising in the left lane (which is for passing)

So is flicking cig butts out the window

But...instead, they ticket for other things like expired registration, etc.

(yes...I'm intentionally ignoring speeding... :bag: )

I'll add to the driving list....

People who don't try to get thru a green light. Just get thru it. Few things make me madder than some jabroni on a road in front of me....with a stale green light in front of us and they don't make even the smallest of efforts to try and get thru it.

Poor line management.

People who piss in stalls especially those who then proceed to spray all over the seat. There's urinals for that, guy.

Pretty much watch any "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and I'll go with those. Larry David made insane amount of cash covering this topic.

I'll go one further: If a guy squeezes his way into the lane right in front of you, only to sit at the yellow light (i.e., I could have squeezed through the yellow light if you hadn't have cut in front of me. It drives me EFFING BONKERS.

Look, you want to be safe and not gun a yellow light? Fine.

You want me to let you squeeze your ### in front of me? Fine.

BUT DON'T EFFING SQUEEZE IN FRONT OF ME AND THEN DRIVE LIKE A NINNY. ### #### it.

I hate getting my oil changed. It costs more than it should, takes up time, they try to confuse you into buying extra stuff now matter where you go. The whole time I'm also thinking "why am I so lazy I can't just do this?"

Hate shaving. Hate having much facial hair. Bad combo

Hope Thread Hijacks aren't on anyone's list...

Depending on the car you have, get one of THESE. If you don't have an air compressor, they make a hand powered one. I can change the oil in both my car and my wife's car in under 30 minutes combined without ever jacking up the car or getting dirty.

Basically, when the car is warm, I fire it up, insert the tube down the dipstick hole, and go back inside for 15 minutes. I come back 15 minutes later, shut it off, replace the oil filter, top it back up with oil, dump the old oil into the now-empty jugs, and I'm done.

ETA - And for oil, wait till Mobil Oil has a rebate coupon, then go buy your oil at Wal-Mart. If you consistently get some every time it's on sale, you'll pay ~$12-$14 for 5 quarts of synthetic.
