Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington hangs self (1 Viewer)

My brother was saying that Chester and Chris Cornell were good friends.
That's what I've read too.

I don't know anything about either, but I'm not gonna lie, the first thought that crossed my mind was that maybe the two of them were more than friends and that maybe the pain of living a lie drove Cornell to suicide and that maybe losing Cornell drove Bennington to suicide.

I'm sure I'm way wrong, but that was my very first thought when I heard the whole good friend bit and it being Cornell's birthday.

Obviously suicide sucks no matter the method but damn, gotta think that's one of the worst methods.  A guy I was good friends with a decade ago did the same a couple years ago, we hadn't talked in a couple years before that, really regret not having kept in touch with him.  Dude was an army Ranger, had made some bad choices.

Yep.  I'll be the jerk here but suicide with children is one of the most selfish things you can do.  Clearly he had issues but think of your kids.
Maybe some one who finally decides to go this route IS thinking of their kids and thinks they will be better off not being in the picture

Yeah that might be the thought but it's bull####. My buddy did it apparently partly for the life insurance but still his son would be better off with a dad who got his #### back together (yeah I'm realizing I'm still pissed at him). And I say this as someone who has dealt with depression over years, thought the kids would be better off without me but then realized that's crap.

You're one extraordinarily weird dude

Where did you hear about that?
One of the early articles on CNN indicated that he experienced a lot of sexual assaults and violence when he was young.

He was also godfather to one of Cornell's sons and actually performed at his funeral recently .

My daughter taught English in France the year after graduating from college.  She was teaching CE1 which is 7 and 8 year olds.  One of her students was huge Linkin Park fan.  He did a report about them and asked my daughter for help translating their lyrics.  On her last day at the school, the kid gave my daughter a picture he'd drawn of the band in case she ever ran into them in California.

I never met the kid but I feel terrible for him today.

Incredibly sad.

One of my exes was/is friends with Mike Shinoda's (the rapper in LP) wife.  Apparently LP really lucked into getting discovered.  A bigger band (Black Crowes, maybe?) was playing at the Whiskey in Hollywood one night when their opening band canceled last minute.  LP got a call at about noon to jet up from Long Beach to get ready and play.  They were supposedly "discovered" by a producer that night.

Honestly, I think they were an underrated, revolutionary band.

You could certainly hear the anguish in Chester's voice.  At one point he had to take a break from singing as his doctors feared he was going to blow his vocal cords out.

RIP Chester

It's not like TV where you dangle there choking.  Your body weight breaks your neck and you die instantly... if done correctly.
Not to belabor this point, but unless you are dropping 6-8 feet from a "professional" hanging platform with the knot positioned just so, dangling and choking is exactly what you'll be doing.

"Hanging" is a term applied to a handful of causes of death, but I'm guessing most of these kind of suicides are more planned "death by asphyxiation" than actual hanging.

:(

Maybe TJ is on to something...

That quote is something you say about your deceased wife or deceased child, imo.
That quote is indeed what sparked my speculation.

And I'm sure I'm off my rocker. Don't mind me.

I still enjoy his music. Sad to see him pass.

Hard to fathom how someone with such fame and fortune could be so miserable to take their own life.

Most of us have a meager existence comparatively without ever having thoughts of ending it.

Seems selfish to take your own life with 6 children.
