I really expected a breakout year from him and could not have been more wrong, so far.

He starts today at home against Halladay...

Anyone have any word on him?

He screwed up his arm and he will never be quite the same...see Kerry Wood.

The slider will never bite like it used to, and that pitch made him all but un-hittable...

He had TJ surgery for the screwed up arm and came back strong at the end of last season. You are say he has screwed it up again? Where are you getting your info? Everything I find say he has pretty much healed.

They changed his mechanics to keep him from putting as much strain on his arm. That's affected the bite of his slider. He'll rebound but probably won't be the guy he was pre-surgery. Still very, very good until he gets hurt again.

Was not sharp in the first start and left some meat over the plate. I am blaming the mess in Chicago on the weather. Today will be very telling. If he gets shelled again today you may want to sit him until he shows you something. That is how I am playing it. I will start him again today, but if he sucks he will get benched until he turns it around. There is no news here in MN about an injury or fatigue, so I think he was just off the first 2 starts. Think April CC of 2008.

His arm/elbow is healed/fully recovered from the surgery.. But like Kerry Wood, the devastating slider will never return because of the stress it puts on the elbow/arm, and that pitch is what made Liriano special. Don't get me wrong, the kid could still have many all-star calibre seasons ahead of him, but I don't see the HOF stuff I used to see from FL and that is a shame.

:lmao: The weather looked fine on my tv set, a little cold but clear skies. He just couldn't control any of his pitches.

Liriano has been quoted to be tentative about throwing his slider. During his 06 campaign he relied almost exclusively on the slider which cost him dearly. He proved during the 2nd half of last season that his fastball can still carry him as an upper level pitcher, but his slider is nowhere near as useful as it once was. Only his ERA has been inflated so far, that will come down, especially when Mauer returns in a couple weeks, the Ks will also come but he won't ever come anywhere near his 2006 rate. He isn't going to be top 10 material this season or any other for that fact, but he can remain a top 25 starting pitcher and the Twins ace for at least a few more years barring injury.

The guy lost his silver bullet. Anyone who reached for him in the first 5-7 rounds was foolish. I couldn't believe where he was going in some drafts. Plus upside but plenty of downside.

Decent start last night. 1 earned run in 6 innings is not too shabby. He needs to go deeper into games, but this is a huge improvement from his first 2 starts.

People need not worried about Liriano. He is a stud. Maybe nto the pre-injury stud, but still a stud. A couple starts in early April aren't worth jumping of the boat over. Hold on.
