LJ Smith carted off (1 Viewer)

Reid seems to like him. On the other hand, you really can't trust a single thing that comes out of Reid's mouth. I don't think that there's much starting experience for TEs on their roster outside of LJ Smith.
Celek is painfully average as a talent. Hard worker, tough player, but little upside for fantasy.
Dear God, Please let me be in a league where someone drafts Celek. I don't care if you have 75 roster spots, he does not warrant a draft pic.

Ya...and Tatum Bell = Marshall Faulk

Meh

If we're going to lose one offensive starter, he's the guy I would've picked.

Now the news that Big Cat Andrews went for a 2nd opinion on his ankle makes me :excited:

Every year someone waits on TEs and drafts this guy to hit jackpot.....every year they get disappointed when he is out of games with boo boos.....nothing different this year. People will never learn.....oh, and Mcnabb's #s will suffer if he is out.

what helps you draw this conclusion? did you follow his college career? do you believe it was productive? have you watched him play outside of combine (was he even invited) or camp?

Bad news for LJ. He's already just a borderline TE1, but with the injury concerns, he's pretty much an avoid. The only player ranked similarly to LJ with more negatives to me is McMichael.

Three days of scouting him in person at the Shrine Game practices (Check out our Shrine Game practice report podcasts for more details) I did not follow his career at Cincinnati, but seeing him next to legit NFL physical talents Ben Patrick and Michael Allan told me all I needed to know - he is a hardnosed do-whatever-it-takes football player, but he does not possess the skills it takes to be a factor as a fantasy TE.

And yet, he was drafted two rounds ahead of Patrick if I remember correctly. You are being too dismissive, Bloom. of his short term prospects.. Biller Miller has been a viable FF TE. Jermaine Wiggins has been a viable starter. He could easily be a bye week filler in 07.

Patrick fell because of medical issues discovered at the combine - regardless he still has more upside as a receiver than Celek. Celek's short term prospects are weak because TEs are unusually deep this year. Guys like Martin, Shiancoe, and Pollard, who are decent receivers and not obstructed as starters, are hovering around TE25. I could not imagine rostering Celek unless your league starts 2 TEs. I'll admit that Miller and Wiggins were average talents that ended up being relevant fantasy TEs for a stretch, but both of them were multiyear vets who were much more accustomed to the NFL than Celek is right now as a rookie. Maybe Celek could have value in year two or three, but only if the Eagles do nothing about TE after Smith leaves in free agency.

Little John Smith will be back in no time. He is in a contract year and he is very resiliant.

Was offered Curry for LJ before this news. Now I'm considering it. I told the other owner about the possible injury, he said he still would go ahead with it.

I already have Cooley and Watson at TE too. Pull the trigger?

Without knowing your scoring systeem, roster, starting requirements etc. my answer is why wouldn't you do it? Curry could end up as Oakland's #1 WR, he's clearly got the talent, just a matter if his body cooperates. You'd still have Cooley & Watson at TE. I really don't see any reason not to unless your league give 2 PPR to TE's or something unusual like that.

To be fair, the same exact thing could have been (and was) said about Mark Chumura. If you're in a deep dynasty-type league, I don't think it would be blasphemy to stash the kid.

.5 PPR, standard otherwisestart 1 qb, 2 rb, 3 WR, 1 te, 1 flex, 1 k, 1 dI need a little help at WR too, and have too many TEs, so I'm planning on making this move.

Update via the camp blog:

The big news of the day was an update on L.J Smith. Head coach Andy Reid said Smith suffered a groin injury that was unrelated to his sports hernia, but was suffered in the same area. The seriousness was not elaborated on, and his condition will be closely looked at.

Would you qualify Chad Lewis as an average talent? In 2000, Lewis had 69/735/ 3 and in 2001 had 41/422/6. I'm not expecting Celek to be a downfield receiver like LJ. But Reid likes to throw to the tight ends, especially in the Red Zone, even if they're only dumpoffs.
