LLWS (1 Viewer)

Articles like this are moronic, at best. Every year, come August, I see tons of articles saying that the LLWS should be done away with. Or at least, removed from TV. The people who write these articles completely miss the point here. The LLWS is for the kids. It isn't for the viewers. Kids are rewarded by getting to travel to PA and play in front of crowds as big as MLB games, in beautiful stadiums, on live television.

It's for the kids. Not you.

But this guy who wrote this article is even dumber than the rest. I've put his top 10 list below. His biggest problems are that these kids "These kids are now just the ‘meh’ players from their town." He's upset because they don't play like MLB players do. I thought the article was a joke at first, but he's dead serious. He's probably the same doofus that wrote the article last year that said the Little League players should refuse to play in the LLWS until they get paid to play.

I enjoy watching the LLWS because I loved playing baseball as a kid. Can't imagine how awesome it would have been to experience what they are experiencing. I also love seeing these kids play because they are hustling. Every play means the world to them.

If the LLWS bothers you, I really think there's something wrong with you. This is one of the greatest sporting events in the world. And it has very little to do with the level of play.

Been there many times. That guy is an idiot. I do think the media is out of control. I liked the days of Wild World of Sports coverage.

I would also argue it's the best age to watch kids.

:lmao: Never playing in the majors. Most won't but some may. Some kids will tire of baseball, some will be better at other sports some will not get any better.

I'm just sad my picture is no longer in the museum as they painted over the mural :kicksrock:

Just curious, why do you think the media is out of control?

When I used to go it would get coverage and the finals would be televised. My dad is there now.

The media is out of control because they bombard these kids, sure it's fun to be on TV - I'm not denying that but imo it's a little overwhelming for 12 year olds to be in the constant scrutiny.

But my main problem is the media is driving these tournament schedules and it bastardizes the tournament a little. The right way to run this tournament , imo like they used to has been removed for the all mighty TV dollar. Let's say PA beats Chicago. They play Nevada in the "American Championship" game. Well in every double elimination round to reach the LLWS Philly would have to beat Nevada twice but because of TV they set up it this way.

I'm fine with the one and done in the final game US vs World but TV bastardizes the schedule

Yeah, that kind of sucks for Nevada. They beat PA and Chicago, yet if they have a bad game, they have no chance to redeem themselves. Not really fair that everyone else can lose twice but them. I guess they benefit from having their pitchers ready, but still that is one thing I never liked.

But it's been this way for as long as I remember. The theory is that it's double elimination to get to the championship. The championship is a one game playoff. So every team going in knows that they have a chance to make the championship even with one loss. The team that makes it there undefeated has the benefit of not having to play an extra game.

Wikipedia lists 43 current/former MLB players who played in the LLWS, along with 4 each for NFL and NHL,

Agreed, definitely been that way for a long time, but I agree with belljr that it is for TV, not much "pressure" when a team can lose and play again. I just never liked it since it is unlike any double elimination tournament I have ever played in/coached in. The team that is undefeated should have an advantage. It definitely sucks that after beating the two teams it could face 13-2 and 8-1 that one bad game would take them out. I think they'll end up winning, but it would be a tough loss after dominating.

it used to be that way for the final game only.now they do it for the American bracket and the final game only. In the regional they do it right. If the team coming out of the losers bracket wins that last game they do it a final game.

they also did pool play for a while which sucked but that least was fair in wins losses.

What do they do for the International bracket now?

same thing... an international championship game where a one loss team can beat the undefeated team and advance to the final game.also way back there wasn't 8 team regions that was a good decision to add regions

Sorry if that wasn't clear, i see i said America , i meant the brackets leading up to the final
