Lofton negotiating contract with Raiders (1 Viewer)

Yea, he just interviewed today. I know Al's a wild card, but unless previous candidates have turned him down this one is hard to believe.

"Lofton is almost certainly concerned about things such as how much control he will have under owner Al Davis and how many of the staffing decisions he will be allowed to make."

Nothing against Lofton, but is he really in any position to worry about these things? Not like owners are beating down his door. He's had 2 HC interviews - both with teams he's previously played for. Almost get the feeling that was to satisfy the Rooney Rule.

Looks like they were trying to contact Denny Green about an interview today. Not sure why Denny thinks he doesn't have to interview for position...

Hire somebody that will kiss Randy Moss' butt so Moss will be good again.
WRONG!You hire a coach who is the best long-term solution for this team.If Moss doesn't cooperate, he can play elsewhere.
Id say Moss being gone is a forgone conclusion. The Raiders' decision should have nothing to do with him regardless, as its been a few years since hes made an impact in the NFL.I dont know if Lofton is the answer, but I feel confident in saying it won't matter until Al Davis moves on.

From your lips.......One thing this past season has taught me is that I will NEVER again have a "bad guy" on my fantasy teams. I had Moss, and I can't stand the guy. I will only draft guys I can't really root for. If it costs me a title, so be it.

Your wrong, as a Randy Moss owner in my dynasty league. I hope he becomes a WR3 instead of my WR7 at this current point. I don't care if he gets traded or plays in Oakland. Whatever is best for Moss not the Raiders. Besides the Raiders won't be a good team until Al Davis is no-longer in charge or has all the power.

:goodposting: Youll never see a team of mine with Kellen Winslow on it for this very reason.

Interesting theory from a guy named RAIDERNATION.

The patheticness of the Raiders

just keeps getting patheticker.

Lofton ?

Denny Green ?

Why not just bring back Tom Flores ?

From another board . . .

Based on the Chargers WRs' performance against the Patriots, when Al hands the contract to him for his signature, Lofton will drop it.

And then when he leans over to pick it up, he'll fumble it back to Al.

When he finally signs it, his signature will be outside the lines.

I'm serious here:

If Oakland hires James Lofton as their new head coach, I will change my username, I will grab a belt sander and scrub the Raiders tattoo off of my arm, then I will put the names of the other 31 teams in a hat, and the team I pick out of the hat will be the one I now root for.

Enough is enough. Just when you think this team can't be ANY more of a laughingstock after hiring that dinosaur Shell, they are talking about bringing in another "former Raider" who has no head coaching experience, nor has he done anything of significance in this league from an X's and O's standpoint.

Just this RUMOR disgusts me.

exactly... the cynical but probably correct view is that sarkissian may be the guy (possibly reminds davis of good old days with shannahan & gruden), & lofton was needed for rooney rule compliance... this is probably the reason dennis green didn't take the bait, he didn't want to go through the motions unless he really had a shot at the job...

I wonder if James Lofton was a serious candidate, or if he told someone he was a serious candidate.

This smells a bit like self-promotion to me.

And to add to my cynicism, or maybe its coincidence, hotly touted front-runner Steve Sarkisian was brought in for his 2nd interview the next day.I also read somewhere that Lofton was backing off some of the previous reports.

the pats OC is reportedly also in the mix, & it could be down to those two... depending on if NE wins on sunday, if the announcement still hasn't been made at that time, PFT suggests he is probably the guy... also they speculated that sarkissian could still be brought in as OC, but likely that is the call of the puppet master (ie - count chocula)...

I've been thinking Lofton would make a great coach since the day he retired. I'd be a bit suprised to see him shoot to the top so quickly, like this. I would still take him over a lot of the candidates out there, though. He's a brilliant guy, and I wouldn't be upset if my team gave him a chance.

:goodposting: Lofton out of running for Raiders job

By Kevin Acee

Chargers receivers coach James Lofton has been told by the Oakland Raiders that he will not be their head coach, and it appears that USC quarterbacks coach Steve Sarkisian will be hired instead.

One source said “it is moving in that direction,” but that a deal with Sarkisian has not been reached.

AdvertisementLofton will likely be a candidate for the offensive coordinator job with the Chargers if, as appears likely, Cam Cameron is the Miami Dolphins' next head coach.

Cameron, the Chargers offensive coordinator since 2002, is at the Dolphins' facility meeting with that team's executives for a third straight day.

Another in-staff candidate for the coordinator's job will be running backs coach Clarence Shelmon, who is highly respected and well-liked in the organization.

 thank god loftons out of the running , lets go Steve Sarkisian

I'm pretty sure I just saw ESPN say that Steve Sarkisian has turned down an offer to coach the Raiders and is returningg to USC.
