Short version: Been doing one league as a standard redraft for 5 years in a row now.
It is a 10 team league with 4 going to the playoffs.
Bottom line is we learned a few things:
- not one of our SB winners has ever had a pick 7-10; everyone of our overall winners has been in picks 1-6
- teams making playoffs this year had picks 1, 2, 4, 6
- teams making playoffs last year had picks 1, 2, 4, 5
Basically, several of us have concluded that having a top pick helps a great deal.
Think about it this way - how is the Tomlinson owner in your league doing?
I am in several leagues - and in none of them is the Tomlinson owner under .500.
Quite simply, you could have taken Tomlinson in the first and screwed up your 2nd and 3rd round picks and you'd still be fine.
Guys in the back half of the draft generally have to take 2RBs just to try and make up some of the difference from not having a true stud RB like Tomlinson. So back half of the draft guys had to take from Edge, Caddy, R.Brown, L.Jordan. And well, that stinks.
Seriously, if you could go back in time to the day of your draft in a redraft league, and you actually had the option of: a) Tomlinson or b) getting to have Edge, Caddy, Brown, AND Jordan - and you knew then what you know now about how they'd all do - which would you take?
I could keep going - but why bore you?!
Basically, we figured everyone should have an equal opportunity at everyone. And having never done an auction league - we are thinking about changing it up to one next year.
So does anyone have a great set of auction league rules they could send me? I could PM you my email address. I mean a set of auction rules that has been perfected over the years?!
Please respond here or PM me if you got something you wouldn't mind sharing.
