So my good buddy RL has the 1.3 pick. I've been talking to DG about moving from 1.6 to 1.4 in order to draft D.Bryant (because I think RL is going to take J.Best). RL calls me Friday night. He is on the clock and can't decide between Best and Bryant. We talk awhile and I tell him I'm not sure which he should take, but that if he takes Best then I'm thinking about trading up to 1.4 to take Bryant and that I'm offering 1.6 + J.Harrison, and that DG seems interested. We then proceed to talk about several other things, such as how he's not sure he's happy with K.Moreno, we agree that the Broncos suck, McDaniels sucks, etc. This is in the context of part of the reasoning he may go with Best. He says he needs to go check in with someone else who was interested in 1.3 and then will make his pick. This is around 10pm.

So I exchange a couple texts with DG to check in and he tells me he's got another party interested in 1.4. Around midnight RL makes his pick (J.Best) and I go to bed. Next morning I text DG again and ask where things stand. He says he's working a deal with another party and wants to know my offer again. Long story short, he ends up trading the pick to RL for K.Moreno and C.Buckhalter. RL then calls me and leaves a message (I was on the other line) that he has acquired 1.4 and to give him a call if I'm interested. I send him a text saying "Not interested in the pick. Thanks." He dratfs D.Bryant a little while later.

Ok, I realize I've got no one to blame but myself. This is why I've kept my mouth completely shut the last 3 years. This year I've been a little looser, mainly because I didn't have a strong opinion on the draft. I'm not as upset about missing out on D.Bryant as I am about my buddy using the info against me. This same guy worked a deal a few weeks ago that included J.Flacco, after knowing that I've been after Flacco for several months. So I guess I need to return to isolationist status.

Again, have no one to blame but myself. Just throwing this out there as an example of why it's best to just keep your mouth shut.

next time he asked me for help (ff wise), he wouldn't get any...end of story
Oh, you've got that right. We usually e-mail a bunch during football season about the draft, lineups, etc. so it won't be as much fun. But that's how it goes. And maybe he even had been talking to DG about 1.3 and 1.4 before we talked, but he never mentioned a word about it even after I spilled my guts. So he either kept it from me, or immediately went to DG afterward. Either way, unacceptable.

Perfectly acceptable. A good owner for the 1.4 should have been shopping to the entire league anyways to get more options. I got a good offer for the pick, I should make sure I cant get more. We got an owner in our league that has an offer for Ahmad Bradshaw and posted that he could be gone by end of the day if no one wants to jump in. Great way to make sure getting the value you like best.

Why didn't you make him an offer for the pick? What difference does it make to you who trades you that pick? Was RL asking for more than you offered the original owner of the pick?

I sent out an email recently reminding everyone of our upcoming draft in a few hours. The guy with 1.05 would've forgotten because he was about to head out. Instead, he made it to the draft and took Frank Gore (his autodraft list had Turner before Gore).

So if I hadnt given the friendly reminder, I would've been able to nab Gore at 1.06.

If Andre Johnson gets hurt/has a bad season and Gore explodes, i'm going to be kicking myself for a long time..

Acceptable for the guy with the 1.4 to shop the pick, yes. But not acceptable for my buddy to go behind my back and try to outbid me. Especially since we were soliciting/sharing opinions from one another.

Well I was waffling back and forth about whether or not I wanted to come up to 1.4. So when RL traded into that slot, I used that as a good reason to just stay where I was.

Cause I'm a dum dum.

Well I think you should have made the trade. He made it easy on you if you wanted it. I see no reason to be upset with him.

Probably so. But I thought it was dirty pool, especially in light of what happened with Flacco earlier, so I didn't want anything to do with it. Plus I'm almost sure he would have asked for more than what I'd offered DG.

Unfortunately, this is what happens in many dynasty leagues. We all talk. We bounce trades off each other, etc. Personally, I try not to submarine a guy - if Team A talks to me about a possible trade they have going w/ Team B, 99 times out of 100, I won't use that info and go to team B to make my own deal. But if Team B contacts me first to see what else is out there, there's no reason I shouldn't try to beat what I know Team A put on the table. Or, if I really want team B's player and never thought about it before (that one time out of 100), I'll tell Team A "I didn't know X was in play, and I could really use him - I might make an offer myself - hope you don't mind" But that's just me - I realize other guys will think nothing of using inside info, and I accept that when I talk to people. In the end, I'd rather that happen than no conversation at all.

Well this is my thought as well, and usually how it works with my buddies. Like I said already, I've got no one to blame but myself. But I still think it was a dirty move. My impression is that he didn't know 1.4 was in play (nor Flacco a month or so ago) until I brought it to his attention by asking his opinion.
