Lori Laughlin & Felicity Huffman BUSTED! (2 Viewers)

I'm still blown away that Lori bribed to get her daughters into USC?  :lmao:

If I'm bribing any college, it's going to be Stanford, MIT, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute or a school like that.
Well, they weren’t going to Cal Tech, so that leaves UCLA and USC as the top schools if they want to stay in Southern California, which they did for a number of reasons. The whole USC thing for them was more of an influencer business opportunity than it was an actual educational opportunity.

They ain't your local prosecutor who follows the I can indict a ham sandwich and then see what shakes loose theory. The Feds only charge you after they already have enough evidence to put you away. A guy I office with is the son of a federal judge and a criminal defense attorney. He goes to trial at the state level allthe time. Hardly ever goes to trial against the Feds. Usually recommends taking the first deal offered because it's only going to get worse.
Take this half a loaf because the next offer will be just the heel and a couple of crumbs.

Which makes this all the more infuriating.

99% conviction rate right, which obviously includes the pleas. Imagine taking that chance.

She is compete and utter idiot. Whatever happens....she will deserve. Take a deal or suffer your fate. She is just plain bat #### crazy and I am sure her attorney is pleading with her to take a deal.
Is it her, or is it her lawyer that's dumb. Given what christo posted, I'm assuming at best the latter, but likely both.

I would think 30% lawyer, 60% her.  I'm sure he advised her against not taking the plea.  I mean, I'm guessing she thought her celebrity was going to get her out of this.

I am rooting for Lori to win her case.
I'm super confused.  We love celebrities when they preach to us about global issues or politics, but we hate them when they do something bad, which they all pretty much do?  It's kind of like colleges.  We love professors and want them to make more money but we hate schools for charging so much money.  It's so tough to keep up with.  It used to just be we hated expensive gas prices but wanted an alternative to oil that was 5 times more expensive.

I don't see her giving in. I'd be shocked. She has stood her ground too long. She really thinks they will win. And then is her reputation. It's ruined but if there's a chance they win, it'll be saved. Her career may not be over as well.

If she manages to win at trial, I don’t think her reputation will be saved anymore than OJ’s reputation was saved when he was found not guilty. The general public knows she is guilty and will not be happy if she is able to escape justice. I think people are largely good with Huffman now that she has served her punishment. I wouldn’t be surprised to see her get an acting role in the not to distant future.

Well Martha Stewart is now smoking weed with Snoop Dogg after doing time in the clink...  Her rep actually improved, but then again it was a different crime and Martha didn't fight it the same way.

Martha is the patron saint of Hollywood reclamation.  She should lead classes.

Lol being famous and cute isn’t beating the feds.

Hubris at its finest.  And with kids about to try and get into college we can't afford, this flippant arrogance by 1%ers with kids who not only don't want college (stated) but are undeserving of spots they got at the expense of other kids/families pisses me the #### off.  I hope she and her husband are nailed to the wall on this and their nose-thumbing puts them in a grey-bar motel not anything like the one Huffman had to endure.

I hope she does. She wasn't a snob and apologised about it. She's regained my respect.

Whoa, slow down. These people were going to take the spot of a deserving kid no matter what, the issue is just that they did it cheaply, instead of buying a library or new weightlifting machines for the football team or a wing in the physics building. If they had just bought USC a new planetarium to get their kid in, it'd be all legal and normal and no one would be arrested for anything.
I don’t know that they have planetarium money.

I did love the social media post from Dr. Dre congratulating his daughter for getting into USC “all on her own!”  Of course, he and Jimmy Iovine had previously made a $70 million donation to the school for the creation of “the Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation.”

And now I'm confused.   I hate when celebrities preach about global issues and politics.   Why would a pretty face, that has no concept of a normal life, know any more about politics or global issues?   Not sure why anyone would listen to a celebrity about anything since their lives are very different than the masses.

Professors seem overpaid to me as well.

Right now - 30 days in the slammer with no chance of early release. Would you take it if you were them?
In a heartbeat. But I seriously doubt that anything close to that deal is being proposed by prosecutors at this point. The most recent sentence was three weeks for a parent that pled guilty to paying $50,000 to have her kids ACT exam corrected. The prosecutors were pushing for six months for that parent.

I would take 6 months if I was them.

This curious post from a respected poster passed without comment. Expand on this thought for us, please, Sinn.
I am a sucker for the underdog.

I also don't care about this scandal - at all.  It does not register on any scale of things I am concerned about.

I have no idea what the actual admissible evidence will be in this case - it could be a slam dunk.  But, it feels like a mob mentality has taken root here - and so, I'll root for the "bad guys" from time to time.

Did Lori and Felicity do for all intents the same thing with the same charge sheet?  I'm way too lazy to go read up to know about this, so hoping for a yes/no here.

No. Felicity paid $15,000 to have someone correct her kids ACT exam. Ultimately, the score was never used as her daughter didn’t apply to college (at least that’s my understanding).

Lori and her husband worked with Singer to create fake crew (coxswain) portfolios for their two daughters and paid $500,000 to bribe USC coaches to pretend that they were athletic recruits to get them admitted.

Even if you don’t care about the fraud or the bribery, do you root for people who make fake donations to charity and then take illegal tax deductions?
Cant be bothered with tax fraud. It’s just not on the list of things I worry about. Not saying it’s good or that I approve. It’s just one of those things that I know goes on by people with those kind of resources.

And, I am not rooting for people who break the law, more just rooting against the mob who think they have them dead to rights.

I am not going to lose a moments sleep no matter what happens with Laughlin or her husband. But since so many are sure she is going to prison for a while - I kind of like rooting for her to prove the mob wrong.

So it’s more that you’re rooting that she’s innocent, than you are rooting for her to get away with the crimes for which she is charged. I can understand that.
