Louie - new FX comedy (1 Viewer)

I hate to base a whole show on one episode but the one I just watched was the worst thing I've seen on TV for years.

He goes to the wrong funeral with his whiny brother.

He gets beat up by a psycho female for no reason and without defending himself at all.

His daughters see the bruises and laugh like it's funny.

He lets his girlfriend put makeup on him, turn him into a woman, she becomes a man, does things to him and then breaks up with him.

And this is supposed to be funny or entertaining???
I'm laughing just reading that....

Yeah, that was far from my favorite episode, but Mr. Mojo does make it sound pretty funny.

Sounds like I offended some fans.

If this was a typical episode, I'll just steer clear from that kind of show.

Seasons 4 and 5 got a little weird (to put it mildly). Most people think seasons 1 through 3 were the best. Even if you didn't like the episode you watched (from season 5) you still might like the earlier seasons.

Edit to add: You didn't offended anyone. Fans of the show know it's not for everyone.

Thanks, I'll have to try something from seasons 1-3. My expectations were probably too high, but I really hated the episode I watched.

I'm actually worried about Louie. He's not the picture of health, is he... a hectic standup schedule plus endless fast food will not end well.
Mrs. Dogg said the same thing this week.
He claimed on Stern that he is usually more out-of-shape than normal when they are filming. not sure why that is. But it also had to be a few months from when they wrapped shooting on Louie until he hosted SNL and I'm not sure that he looked any better.

It is and isn't typical, in that I don't think that there really is any typical for Louie. Although it is true that season 1-3 were more comedic, there were still lots of strange and uncomfortable moments and the episodes were hit and miss for me. Like the one where the kid curses at him (?) while he's on a date and then he goes and follows the kid and ends up getting into this long, deep conversation with the dad. The thing is that I think that he really considers himself a filmmaker first, so he is really trying to convey some idea or creative concept that he has, rather than write a comedy. He happens to have a lot of funny ideas, so the episodes end up being funny.

I also noticed for the first time this season that Steven Wright is listed as a producer. Maybe I saw this before and just figured that it couldn't be the comedian, but then Wright had the cameo and Louie also mentioned on Stern that Wright (and a couple other people) sit with him while he writes and give him some feedback on things. Which is actually a little different than what I thought he had described before, that he really did it all solo and might give a final copy to someone like Rock to see what he said.

Watched the last few episodes this season as my intro to the series.

Now watching season 1 and about halfway through.

Love the show. Becoming one of my all time favs already. It's the mix of darkness and comedy that makes it good.

Probably doesn't hurt than I'm 43 and in the middle of a divorce.

Yeah, I don't really get that character or like her for the most part. My wife started watching the show 2 years ago (with the Hungarian(?) chick) and kept saying how horrible the Adlon character was.

But she's been a consulting producer or whatever since the beginning, and Louie seems to love her. I guess it is her rawness and abruptness.

Horace and Pete

The new online subscription series from Louis C.K. Phenomenal show. Shot like a play, it's a tribute to old school 30 minute melodramas like Barney Miller and All in the Family. This is a complex, deep script with some incredible acting. An all-star cast and worth every penny of the price.
