Mack Brown stepping down (1 Viewer)

James Franklin is roughly 80,000 times better than the current ######## in Knoxville. Butch Jones biggest success has been his ability to ride Brian Kelly's coattails.

Well, for the sake of my dad, you, my buddies who went to UT I hope Patterson is a changed man. He sits atop a pyramid of hated sports figures in Portland. He's going to have to learn how to play nice with others at Texas...or maybe he's just a hired hatchet man for now.
I sure hope not. Texas has a bloated athletic staff (twice the staff/athlete ratio as most places) and a complete lack of accountability in most programs over the last several years.

Actually, that's pretty much exactly what the situation was in Portland when he arrived

Affected employees -- 40 front office workers and 48 arena staff -- learned their fate at a series of meetings Tuesday morning, but the possibility of layoffs had been looming for three or four months, said Blazers executive vice president Erin Hubert.

"There are clubs similarly situated that are being run with roughly half the staff," said Blazers president Steve Patterson. "If you look at the arena size, the payroll is nearly two times what you'd have for a similar building."
Bring it on.

Chip Brown was on with Cowherd this morning touting his big Mora scoop.
But Chip's never wrong. Unless you count his declaration that Texas would get into the 2008 National Title game instead of OU and the Texas to the Pac 12 thing being a done deal and the Saban rumblings and now this. He does deserve credit for being the first member of the media to report Dodds being gone and partial credit for calling Brown's departure along with every other "insider" site outside of Bobby Burton's.

Franklin coaches today. It's gotta be him.
oof.
I don't know why you are down on Franklin. He's awesome.

I hope Texas doesn't hire him - so he stays at Vanderbilt forever.
I'm admittedly biased since I'm a vols fan, and he has done a nice job at vandy. I just don't see him as nearly as great as other people do. He's had two good years but iirc lost to every ranked team he's played except for an injury ravaged Georgia squad. Harbaigh and Meyer were 22-2 in their stops prior to their big college jobs. Franklin is 17 and 9 (?). I just don't see him as the "next great coach".
I keep hearing all this ridiculous talk that winning in the SEC is tougher than winning in the Pioneer League and the Mountain West.
You bite your tongue mister! Pioneer League even has its very own website!!!!
I'll be damned if anyone is going to sit here and besmirch the great name of Davidson football. They were 10-0 when I was there as a freshman. (and 4-275 in the rest of their seasons combined.)

What is all this twitter chatter about Strong being all gangster? Is this just code for KKK stuff or is there some background here I don't know about.

I don't see a single thing in my feed that mentions gangster. But then again, I don't follow a bunch of Aggies.

I didn't realize he had Bridgewater for that Sugar Bowl win vs. Florida. He did win the BeefOBrady's bowl without him so at least he has that on his resume.

Really this was the big hire for Texas? Not bad, but when you are Texas I was expecting the heavens to part and angels sing when the announcement was made.

Franklin to Louisville. Book it.
Why would Franklin go to Louisville? He's being considered for the Penn State and even NFL jobs. Louisville?
Penn state is going to hire a guy that is dealing with a rape scandal and would bolt for the nfl as soon as the opportunity came?
That still doesn't explain a move to Louisville.
It's a high-quality open job (allegedly) that has essentially the same recruiting base he covers now. I think it's a great fit.

So Louisville looks the other way on rape and doesn't care if their next coach bolts for the NFL?

Makes sense.

They didn't seem to care that their last two coaches bolted for other jobs.

If Strong turns this down and then stays at Louisville, it will add to the overall comedic property of this scenario.

It's done according to both sides. I'm excited.

Think I'll go rollerskating with a bunch of 20something girls on Monday night to celebrate.

Every half decent program expects a Saban level hire now. It's just not going to happen most of the time.

It's a good hire. A year ago he was the hot candidate at a number of openings (turned down the vols). I wouldn't say I'm a Texas fan but living in Austin I am exposed to their fans and games. I think David shaw would have been the right guy, but he wasn't leaving. I think tressell would have fit the size of the job perfectly, but he has warts. Excepting those two , strong is a great choice. He's older than I imagined though.
