Madden Cover Curse (1 Viewer)

Anyone put any stock in the Madden Cover Curse? The results are pretty freaky. Just read this article and it got me thinking:

http://www.footballdocs.com/madden_curse.html

All "curse" talk aside, the # of carries on Alexander posed in the article does make an interesting point. No guarantees, but the stats seem to suggest Alexander has the odds stacked against him... curse or not. Hutchinson gone too... I'm thinking LJ and LT2 are looking pretty good compared to Alexander... Thoughts?

Someone play devil's advocate and argue why Alexander deserves to be #1 this year. Perhaps a Seattle Homer has inside info others don't... ?

Interesting how they decide to use different years for Eddie George than everyone else since that's what supports the theory best.

wannabee has an interesting stat on the # of carries LT has over SA.

seriously, what is the low# for SA? like maybe 15 td's? i'm a little biased since he is one my keepers..

After Holmes rushed for 27 TDs in '03, he rushed for 14 TDs in '04.After Emmitt rushed for 25 TDs in '95, he rushed for 12 TDs in '96.

After Riggins rushed for 24 TDs in '83, he rushed for 14 TDs in '84.

On the other side, TD rushed for 21 TDs and then 2; Terry Allen hit 21 and then only four.

VERY nice work Chase Stuart :goodposting:

LT has more touches in one less year (because Alexander was drafted with Watters already in Seattle - similar, imo, to TJones/Benson). Also, many over look that Portis in Washington the last two years has 700 carries and 70 catches. Portis is a young stud RB who is on many fantasy owner's bust out list.

My issue is that people can knock Alexander because of the curse, being 28 (almost 29), the offense getting a good WR2, etc. But, the amount of touches should apply to both.

I think most peope would take LJ or LT2 over SA even if he was not on the cover of Madden.

I dont know if I would call it a curse but more of a riding the high wave from last year only having it to die down. I dont think Alexander will reach 20 TDs this year or have as many touches and may fall out of the top five for fantasy RBs. Does that make him a bad pick? Maybe if you choose first.

Oh cmon we all know last year = this year.Larry Johnson: 2500 rush yds, 30 TDs

Let's leave curses and other mumbo-jumbo to a pansy sport like baseball.
Finally the voice of reason.

I would go for this order as well. I DO think SA will have a huge drop off this year and you can call it what you want. I know it will be the curse. However, I will be drafting MO Morris as well. I think it is a safe investment overall. It will be almost impossible for SA not to have a huge drop off in production this season. Should be fun to find out though.

So next year, does everyone avoid drafting whoever's on the Madden cover?

I did this year, but more because of the loss of Hutchinson.

so, if tomlinson gets hurt this year , will it become the "Was asked to be on the cover" jinx?
For this "Was asked to be on the cover" jinx to carry some real weight I think that LT would need to get really hurt. That would add some weight to your new proposition. However, I would feel pretty bad for all top NFL players because it seems like you should have an option to escape the curse. As a result, I predict that LT has a very good year and that he is rewarded for being a solid individual, putting his team first, and having general common sense (i.e. don't push your luck).

Thanks I plan to go get the “There is no escaping Madden Cover Curse Curse” phrase trademarked, patented, or copyrighted or something, so I can put it on T-Shirts as soon as this thing goes down.

Once again, Eddie George had his finest statistical season the year he was on the cover of Madden.
There's always an exception to the rule. But there's a couple of things about Eddie's case:-Caused the Titans to lose that year in the playoffs (due to the curse)or-He sold his soul to the devil to have his best year ever, the devil in turned placed a curse on the Madden cover. Eddie happily obliged. No deals with the devil are ever beneficial to the living which is why he lost in the playoffs. To break the curse, Vince Young needs to kill Eddie George.

fantasyindex curse runs longer than madden curse, back to 1996 or something like that..

LT2 is on the FI cover, this season.

The Madden Curse is the gift that keeps on giving..........

McNabb- Constant injuries afterwards

Culpepper- one good year then fell apart

Faulk-Never recovered

Vick- No more injuries but became a bigger moron

Didn't LTD refuse the Madden cover last year, IIRC? I think they actually couldn't agree on the compensation, but boy was I glad, as an LTD owner, that he stayed off the cover. It's not a myth.

What else would you call a complete falsehood, mindlessly repeated by idiots? Well, you're right, I can think of words other than "myth."
