I said in an earlier post that the main thing we needed was for states to relax their absentee-voting requirements (it's actually a little more complicated than that, but that would certainly go a long way toward helping the problem).

Anyway, it turns out the Texas AG isn't playing ball:

Answering a question Texans have been asking for weeks: Texas AG releases statement saying fear of contracting COVID is not a valid excuse to request an absentee ballot, and reminds it’s a crime to lie on the form.
ETA: Or maybe this story isn't over yet:

@ACLU

BREAKING: All voters affected by COVID-19 in Texas will be allowed to vote by mail during the pandemic — thanks to a ruling in our case with @ACLUTX and @TXCivilRights

I can log into the social security system but they can't adapt that to voting in elections?  What a bunch of losers.

They could do this is all types of different ways. It boils down to primarily republicans not wanting people to be allowed to do this.

I don't have a problem voting by mail, I guess.  But I've never done it, and I would prefer not to do it.  Same reason I don't send cash by mail, I guess.  I don't 100% trust that it'll get there. I like the good old fashion feel of going to my voting precinct. Makes me feel good.

But maybe I just don't know enough about it.  Maybe there is some sort of confirmation mechanism in place.
In Washington you don't actually have to put the ballot in the mail. There are special, secure, ballot collection boxes at public libraries, city hall, court houses, etc..

You can literally deposit your ballot right in the box by hand.

I have no problem with mail in voting, but it should require a video of the person holding their ballot with a signature and fingerprint.  Once the ballot is counted, the person can then check online to verify it has counted.  They can then scan their implanted digital voter ID/vaccine microchip in the back of their neck from their home address, to ensure the voter is in the precinct they voted in.
That's ridiculous overkill.

In WA, you have to sign the exterior of the official ballot envelope, and the envelope signatures are compared to the signature on the voter card. That makes it at least as secure as in person voting.

It's not that it CAN'T be done....HTH.

There is a REALLY easy way to do this with a web page and the technology one finds in their debit card chips.  It's absolutely doable and would be really easy to do.  Keeping it secure would be the hardest part with most of the concern coming from internal operators trying to muck with the system (not random guys from Russia).
