Making a run at Bobby Abreu (1 Viewer)

shut it down

5x5 OBP, one of the teams that's doing pretty well is offering up Damon, Ellsbury and Abreu in an attempt to gain some more power. By my numbers, the most viable guy here is Abreu by far, even ignoring the fact that he's been on fire the past month (4th overall over the last 28 days).

The rankings I use (factoring in OBP) have Abreu ranked 29th in the league, but I think he's somewhat underrated because he doesn't hit a lot of HR, and I think his OBP isn't valued as highly as it should be (the value calculator I use shows that Abreu's OBP is worth the exact same as 23 HR)

I own the following 5 OF that I use in my 4 total OF/DH spots, rankings in parentheses:

Matt Kemp (35)

Nelson Cruz (50)

Curtis Granderson (77)

Luke Scott (141, 88th in per-game value)

Nick Swisher (160)

Do I start with Scott? Go as far as Granderson? My instinct is to old back on offering Kemp or Cruz, they're just too close in value.

Well he wants more power but what do you want? Abreu gives you steals and OBP as well as a good showing in RBIs. I think Granderson is due a really nice second half and you'd be selling him low, Kemp I wouldn't trade, and Scott probably doesn't have Abreu's value. Cruz gives you the HRs and most of the steals Abreu gets but Bobby has the big OBP advantage and probably the advantage in RBIs going forward.

You might be able to add something for the other guy with Scott and he'll go for it. I really think you'll have to ship Cruz or Grandy and not trying to be a homer because I think you know I'm not with fantasy baseball, I'd trade Cruz first. But it just depends what you need back and reading between the lines it sounds like OBP and the RBIs won't hurt to add.

It's H2H ( :goodposting: ), so what I "need", statistically, is a little less relevant. For instance, if we had a 2-category league with just HR and SB, and we win HR 80% of the time, and SB 30% of the time, it doesn't make sense to make a trade that would "even" out our offense so we won HR 50%, and SB 50%. Less balance, more focus on BPA, IMO.That said, you can bump up against diminshing returns. My offense has been evolving a little bit with Doumit and Aramis back on board, here are my ranks in the league over the last month (out of 14 teams):HR: 2ndOBP: 12thRuns: 8thRBI: 7thSB: 4thI offered Scott straight up to kick things off. Pro-rated over 162 games, he's on pace to hit 37 HR and be around 100/100, so he might have some appeal to villain. His OBP is solid, and his lack of steals probably won't concern him much.
