this feels like assistant coach material, but i went in there to post and it really didn't seem like it was the right place.

so i'll ask again. Assuming everyone's available for the draft, how much time do you guys usually have per pick?

We have a 12-team league with 16 rounds. For the first 8 rounds we have 90 seconds.. this works well considering the first few rounds fly by... For rounds 9-16 we only get 60 seconds... In an effort to keep people paying attention and the draft moving along we have 1 person in charge of timing, starting the clock as soon as the previous owner names his pick (as opposed to placing it on the board)... Also, if you can't decide in time you miss your pick and get 2 on the wrap-around to make up for it... we usually finish just under 3 1/2 hours and no one misses picks.

For our draft we have a 2 minute limit for the first 2 rounds, then a 1:30 limit for rounds 3-10, and a limit of 1 minute for rounds 11-20.

We do 2 minutes/pick.

I'm strongly considering going to some sort of time bank next year, where every team would get an allotment of time for the entire draft.

This is part of the fun in draft day. Why do away with this?

You've got to go with a timer, just for that one pick per draft where a guy goes into vapor lock because his next two targeted players went back to back right in front of him, and now he's sweating and looking at his cheatsheet while he calls the previous owners bastards. As the timer ticks down, he starts panicking and then makes a rush decision that he instantly regrets, causing him to go into the tank and ruin the rest of his draft.

Not having a timer would do away with this entertainment.
