Mangenius is burning future bridges..... (1 Viewer)

What are all you HATERS gonna have to talk about when the Patriots win the superbowl this year?

Because, the only thing more certain than the video evidence in this case is the fact that everybody was foaming at the mouth for a reason to take shots at the Patiots. Everyone wants to take down the King of the Hill. :goodposting:
Please explain...IF you're so much better then the rest, why cheat? Serious question. As I stated before I'm no hater nor fan. But whenever the Patriots Dynasty years are discussed in the futrue, there will always be that "Yeah but....". No denying it.We will never know for sure just how good those previous Pats teams were because it is now a fact, they cheated.
Here's what we know for a fact. The Patriots used a video camera in a way that was not allowed by league rules. What we don't know is how many teams use similar tactics and how they go about achieving the same type of result. We don't know if acts like these to varying degrees are done by some, few or all other teams. Knowing these things would greatly affect the significance of this act by the Patriots. Say what you want, but we don't know those answers.

One other fact here, and perhaps the most telling, is that we have a former, apparently disgruntled employee that stirred the pot. Pardon the french here, but Mangini is a tattling, little b*i*t*c*h. A truly desperate act by a man that knows he has no shot at dethroning the Patriots in the AFC East this season.

That's one way to say it. Another way would be to say the Pats *cheated*.

That's all well and good. But you still didn't answer my question, if they are so much above the rest - why cheat? This cheating will forever taint their previous accomplishments. Surely you can't dispute that, can you?

Why does this sound like the NFL version of Barry Bonds? (small differences, but similar arguments / logic)

Along these same lines, we don't know who, or how many other NFL players are taking steroids, and are therefore "cheating." What we do know is that guys like Rodney Harrison and Shawne Merriman have recently been caught. Does the fact that others may possibly also be taking steroids somehow lessen the fact that these two have cheated? Absolutely not. Speculate all you want that other teams "cheat" but when the Patriots get caught doing something so blatantly against NFL rules, and you Patriot fans continue to spin this to deflect the blame off of your ever so perfect team and head coach - well, it really sounds pathetic. Your team got caught doing something against NFL rules, and there is a high likelihood that what they have done has, in one way or another, given them an unfair advantage in competition. No matter how much you guys ##### about a witch hunt and that other teams do it and wah wah wah, it doesn't change the plain, simple fact that the "legacy" of the New England Patriots, and Bill Belichick will forever be tainted.

I agree with you whole heartedly. This wreaks of Barry Bonds. The problem is it's grossly premature. While this may very well turn out to be a valid reason to take away all of the achievments of a modern day dynasty, it could also be a pre-mature and unfair way of stripping them of all their accomplishments.

Don't you think they're getting hung just a little quick here?

The real punishment is not what the pu#%#$ Commish handed down - its that in the Court of public opinion every one of the Pat's SB titles is now tainted! The JEts may only have Joe Willy and SB III - but at least it was an honest win!

The real punishment is the scarlet letter that BB has to wear forever

There is just way too much time and words being spent on this topic nationally. You KNOW every team does this. I believe its good due dilligence. Just one more example of Belichek probably being better at utilizing the information to his advantage than all other mere mortals. Sign stealing is part of sports. The real loser in this story is Mangini. He broke the code of silence, and ratted on another coach. Its a punk move by an immature coach who received a head coaching job years before he should have (last year was a mirage. watch the record this year). I guarantee you more coaches in the league are pissed at Mangini for ratting than Belichek for videoing. Everybody likes to take down the king. Lots of people are having fun saying the Pats legacy is tainted, as if this is the difference that put them over the top. Puh-lease. The result here is the Pats now have a rallying cry and a chip on their shoulder (they love that) for this season. Should guarantee that 4th SB title. And a 1st round pick for a penalty (if they make the playoffs - a 2nd and a 3rd if they don't) is way too harsh of a penalty. (And wouldn't you rather lose a 1st instead of a 2nd and 3rd? I would). What happens to that pick anyway? The Jets get it? If it just disappears that means one less player getting a 1st round contract. Can't make the NFLPA happy.
Wow. I've read approximately 60 pages of discussion on this topic over the last few days, and this is, without a doubt, the dumbest post yet. Congratulations.

Mangini better hope he doesn't run into me at a bar or restaurant...I'll slap him around. Notice how the other coaches in the league are mum about this? Amateur...
Who's this Mangina fellow?

Just asking, but exactly what bridge existed between Mangini and the Patriots? Help me out here. :censored:

What this looks lke to me is that Mangini finally had enough with the snubs from Belichick and decided to hit them where it hurts and where they were vulnerable.

As a former Patriots employee, Jets coach Eric Mangini must have known what was going on. So why didn't he have some kind of system of dummy calls set up to foul up the video surveillance?

"He did," says a former Patriots employee whose name cannot be used for obvious reasons. "He had three sets of signals being given, one real, two dummy. He had the same thing going when he beat the Patriots last year. But still, it means extra work, changing the way you prepare for a game. It means both clubs are not playing on the same level field, and that's what's wrong about it."

I asked the former Patriot, who knows the organization well, if Mangini could in any way be held responsible for being part of a system that encouraged cheating. He paused for a moment to decide how to get this right.

"You have to understand that organization," he said. "You have to understand how incredibly tight the ring is. Information is not just passed around. Even if you might be aware of something, you're not going to know exactly how everything works. Eric was an employee there. He was not privy to every decision. His own operation was clean. Sure, he knew other stuff was going on, but how was he supposed to handle it?

"The amazing thing is the incredible arrogance they showed, coming into Giants Stadium, facing an organization with all those ex-Patriots employees, and still trying to cheat.

Well that answers my questions neatly then. Thanks for the link.
