Manny returns to Fenway this weekend (1 Viewer)

Devil's Advocate
Interesting discussion about this on Boston sports talk radio yesterday.

On one hand, he is one of the greatest hitters ever and they almost certainly don't win either title without him.

On the other hand, nobody will ever forget how he forced his way out of town.

- Looking at 3 straight strikes right down the middle at Yankee Stadium with the bat on his shoulder.

- Phantom knee injurues (by all accounts).

- Fighting a team employee.

- Jogging out ground balls and running half-speed while in the outfield.

- Being an all-around horrible teammate.

I talked to a couple GBs of mine who are huge Sox fans, and they have no idea what to expect.

Should be cheered - regardless of his antics - they'd still be waiting for a WS title if he wasn't on those teams.

For both of my fantasy teams I just hope Manny has more nights in him like he did last night.

This is even a question? The Fenway faithful should be lining up at the airport to give him a little release after what he's done for him. If I had any respect for Boston fans....I'd lose it all if they booed this guy.

I don't have any connection to the Boston Fan base so I can't really provide anything there. I expect it to be mixed with the boos louder than the cheers. The fans really should cheer him for what he did but I think they are still bitter over how his time there ended.

It is absolutely a question. This has been the topic on Tony Maz's radio show for the past two days.I'd say the callers are split right down the middle. You have each extreme from callers saying they want to run onto the field and kiss him on the lips, and you have callers saying he's a "drug-using, non-hustling scumbag" and anyone who cheers for him should be ashamed of themselves.

I cant argue with the rest of the points, but these are ridiculous.Rivera painted three nasty cutters on the black in that at bat. They were nasty, nasty pitches. Most players on the Sox quite enjoyed him. A few despised him. I would say that he was definitely more of a good teammate than bad teammate.

With all due respect, the second point you quoted came directly from the mouth of Tony Maz, who was there every day.He said Manny's Boston teammates "tolerated" his behavior, but his act had worn thin on everyone by the time he was traded.

I assume you're watching the Sunday night telecast, moops?Schilling just said it. ALL of his teammates wanted him gone, despite the production. They never knew when Manny would feel like playing.
