Marcedes Lewis - strong TE1 with Shorts sidelined? (1 Viewer)

Marcedes Lewis seems like he's set for a big week. At home against the Jets D, Blackmon should draw Cromartie, and Lewis looks like he should then get a bunch of the targets that would usually go to Shorts. Thoughts?

I'm curious about this as well. With Gronkowski out, I've been playing TEBC. Clark has been working out OK so far, and I was going to go with him against Philly this week, but the Jets have given up some points to TEs so far this year, and if Lewis is going to see more targets, he could be a good play.Any Jax homers have any insight about how Lewis has been & will be used? Or NYJ homers about how the Jets defense handles TEs?

I agree with the OP. But keep in mind, I have been TE wasteland all year, so my expectations are low.

In the past three weeks Lewis has caught 64% of his passes with an average of 14.9 ypc. He's done this on an average of 5.6 targets a game.

In the same time space Shorts was averaging 8.3 targets a game.

So you can envision a game where Lewis gets 9 or 10 targets and has a very nice day.

At the same time, Shorts's position isn't being eliminated. Rookie Kevin Elliot came in for Shorts later in the game last week. Elliot only caught 2 balls for 24 yards, but for this week he might be more prepared.

I know nothing about Elliot's skills, but even if he's serviceable you can envision a game where he produces well enough to keep Lewis exactly where he's been in terms of opportunity.

Also, last week Henne had 41 attempts (as opposed to 26 and 33 the weeks before) and yet despite the increased volume Lewis's looks didn't rocket up. Instead Jordan Shipley and Elliot soaked up 8 and 6 of those targets respectively.

We don't get a lot of Jacksonville games up here in Minnesota, so this analysis is purely based on research. If anyone feels I've missed the mark, please let me know.

He's pretty much the only reliable thing they have. I don't consider Blackmon reliable yet. I sat Myers for him this week mostly because I felt Myers was due for a let down but also Shorts was going to be out. Lewis has the ability. Now he'll get the opportunity.

I see 8 catches for 85yds and 1 TD.
