Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips has decided to have the NFC's Super Bowl favorite open the playoffs with a different look on offense. According to Cowboys sources, Pro Bowl running back Marion Barber will replace season-long starter Julius Jones in Sunday's game against the New York Giants.

It is not only something of a belated acknowledgement that Barber is the team's best runner, blocker and receiver out of the backfield but perhaps also an indication of how much the Cowboys intend to make the emotion that results from his punishing style a factor at Texas Stadium.

The Giants have won eight straight road games, losing only to the Cowboys in their season-opener at Texas Stadium.

Although Barber has not started a single game this season, he is responsible for all three of the Cowboys' individual 100-yard rushing performances. The Cowboys are 8-0 when Barber scores a rushing touchdown. He has 23 rushes for 99 yards and a touchdown in Dallas' two regular-season victories over the Giants.

"You see how excited he is when he gets up after every run -- even if he lost yardage,'' Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce said. "He's one of the toughest backs in the league to bring down even though he's nowhere near being the biggest. You can't tackle that guy high because he'll run you over and he has that great stiff arm.''

Phillips informed Jones of the decision during the bye week so that he had time to recover from his disappointment. According to the source, Jones was upset with the decision and clearly not himself for several days. But he has apparently improved his attitude after being assured he will be rotated into the game and will continue to have the kind of plays he prefers as part of their game plan against the Giants

Who cares what Julius thinks. The guy's always been a headcase dating back to Notre Dame. They should be counting the days until he's gone and get a another compliment to Barber.

All season it hasn't matter who started, and it won't matter tomorrow. If anything, maybe it wake Jones up a bit when they could use a spark in the running game.

My thought has been that Julius Jones comes in there with all that speed and then the defenses have to adjust when they go to Barber but when Julius is in there, he runs right into the line and falls down. He never breaks tackles, he never gets the extra yards and he never gets the tough yards. If there is a huge hole, he gets through it and he has speed but he cant make any plays for himself.

The one thing I liked was that Barber was normally in during the second and fourth quarters. He was fresh and the defense was getting tired out. Hopefully it wont make any difference.

Are you going to be "in-thread" tomm. Looks like I am watching the game away from home, so I may only be in at times.
I'll probably be in the same situation. Best of luck to you and yours, Jedi Romo, Jessica, J-Wit and A-Hen. Babyarm.

dumbest thing Cowboys could have done ..

why rock the boat now .. ?

J.Jones is sulking now .. and if Barber gets hurt or something you have a guy who has been sulking all week

dumb move

Julie Jones ran his mouth that he did not want to come back to Dallas so they benched him.. The Cowboys will be better off with MBIII

That would be really stupid if JJ did that. He is going to be a free agent. If he acts like that it could cost him some serious cash.

Maybe this will fire Jones up and he will do something in the game, lol. Wurd on the street is they call him the "Coal Miners Daughter" because he plays soft.

Barber had a good game in Week 1 against the Giants but he only had something like 33 yards the second time he faced the Giants. What kind of game can we expect Barber to have this week against the G-men? Have the Giants figured out how to limit Barber and the Dallas running game, or has this just been a case of Romo exploiting the Dallas secondary?

I have to think they will rely more on Barber this week with TO hurting. I think he can get close to 100yds and 1-2 td's.

Two backs with Jones the starter and Barber the finisher all year, now you change that.

Glenn doesn't play all year now your giving him action in a win or go home game.

T.O.'s ankle.

The Jessica factor.

# 1 seeds are tough to beat in the divisional game,so why do I have this feeling The Giants will upset the apple cart?
